There are two main obstacles a hero will always deal with in his journey: The villain's plot and stupid people doing stupid things that screw things up for everyone.

What the Mirror shows us is a clear example of the latter.

As such, we need to book it back through the Ruins of Lost Time and arrive too late to prevent the disaster that occurs. Oh, and don't worry, even if we didn't spend several minutes failing at more dash jumps to obtain the Black Tabula, we'd still be too late anyway.
