I sense something! Maybe the Gang of Ultimate Evil is behind this. This is the first bit of story that pops up on the screen of the game Legend. Impressed? Anyway, Legend follows the story of Warrior, the protagonist of the game and voice of the first sentence.
Legend is in a league of its own. In the first 2 minutes of the game, a mysterious man named Ralph comes out of nowhere, announces himself to the hero, and promptly leaves. Additionally, Warrior knows their true power. Or DOES he? He knows their power is mighty, but HOW mighty? Yes, that is actual game dialogue.
After that, we get to go to a town. In the town, though, Legend does a really interesting twist for the RPG genre, as a whole: the town NPCs do not talk at all. It seems you must enter a building to talk to someone. Inside one of the 2 buildings you can enter, there is a fighting arena. You can compete in it. There's a training side and a real side. Once you beat them, you go to another place and meet Ralph, your nemesis, again.
I assume the cycle of arena, fight Ralph continues, but an hour of my life was more than enough for this thing.
I have to give the game props, here. It was functional, at least. And I'll give a point for custom battle graphic.Towns used up all 64x64 tiles of the map (and the unused space is barren), there are nearly no trees, decorative objects go mainly unused, 2/3 of the buildings in the game are ones you can't enter.
There are no features at all. None.See left.
You know, the dialogue, while completely uninspiring, was at least proofread a bit. It's one of the shoddiest programming jobs I've ever seen. Sometimes events work, sometimes they don't. You can see events before you're supposed to, and apparently, Warrior can be in the middle of the ocean and on the ship at the same time.
I know I said in the DOOR: THE GAME review that I'd rather play Legend, but that was before I spent an entire hour with this. This game is boring in every sense of the word.
This game sucks.
