The Game of Blackjack: How to Play

The object of the game is to get a hand value as close to 21 as possible, without going over. All face cards (King, Queen, Jack) are worth 10 points, all Aces can be worth either 11 points or 1 point, based and the player's decision, all other cards are worth their face value, i.e., a 7 of Spades is worth 7 points and a 2 of Clubs is worth 2 points

Before any cards are dealt, each player must bet a certain number of chips that his final hand will be closer to 21 than the dealers hand. Players do not bet against each other, they bet only against the dealer. After placing their bets each player will recieve two cards, face up, and the dealer will also receive two cards, face up.

The first player to have joined the game goes first, having the option to either hit (get another card added to their existing two cards), stay (not receive any additional cards), double down (double his/her bet and in turn receive only 1 additional card) or in some cases, split.

Splitting can only occur if the first two cards dealt are a pair, i.e., the same value, and when split, act as if they were two separate hands, with cards being able to be added to both, separately.

Doubling down can only happen on a player's first turn, and it can be the only turn he player can make that round.

If the player ends up with a hand value greater than 21, he busts, or loses, the money he bet is lost to the dealer and another round begins.

If the player ends up with a hand value less than or equal to 21, but greater than the dealer's hand value, he wins back double his bet. If the player doubled down and beat the dealer, he effectively recives quadruple his original bet.

If the player split, and each separate hand beats the dealers hand, the player receives quadruple his bet. If only one hand beat the dealers hand, whether one hand bust or one hand is just lower than the dealers hand, the player will receive double his bet. If both hands either bust, or are lower than the dealer's hand, or a combination of the two, the player loses his bet to the dealer.

Pattern of Play for our Casino:

Our method of playing Blackjack will be quite different from our method of playing Poker. There will be no signing up. Instead players simply post their bets inside of the "Blackjack Table" thread, and when either 6 hours have passed (subject to change), or 4 other people have bet, the cards will be dealt by the dealer and can bee seen in the first post of the thread. Players will then proceed in the order they bet, making their choices and aiming to beat the dealers hand. Once all turns have passed the winnings will be dealt out and a new game will open up for people to being betting on (and thus joining).

Questions? Fell free to post any questions or concerns or suggested rule fixes in this thread. All the above mentioned rules are only preliminary, they could change if they do not work out well or a better alternate rule plan is discovered.

Any betting limits?

I think it would be nice if every player can carry over his/her chips from one game to another. Poker to blackjack and what ever. If that doesn't already happen

Good question, when you first start playing you are given 300 chips to start off, and they can be used for both Poker and Blackjack, as well as any other gambling games that are added later on.

You can keep track of your chip balance yourself, or you can look it up here, where it changes after each bet or win.

As for betting limits, there are none, at least not for Blackjack. For Poker, betting limits can be found here under "house rules".

For Blackjack though no one has to "keep up", so to speak, with your betting, so you're free to bet as much or as little as you want. Also, this could change if I find it doesn't work out well but I'm willing to bet people will be responsible and frugle with their betting habits so that it won't be a problem.
