What's the earliest you've released a demo of your game?
Or what's the shortest demo you've released?
I just want to have an idea of how much longer should I wait to do do.

The demo for my scrapped game Dragon's Edge took me about 30 minutes to finish.

The earliest I released a demo was a good year and a half after we stared the game. Though I hated it... I mean, it's hard to pick out a place in the middle of the game that's worth playing through without what happens before that point... and a good bit afterwards too.

And I just didn't want to do the very beginning either. I don't know, I just feel like it doesn't do your over all progress justice.

What if I have a small portion of the game already completed? Would it be ok if I submit it as a demo?
I'm really interested in getting some feedback on my game, to see if it's going in a good direction.

Does it show the direction you want to go without being too spoilerific?

Take Slayers' Reign, for example. Two hours is an awefully long demo. By general rules of demos, it should've ended after Mt. Shela. But then the player would've been left with the wrong idea about the story (being, OMG the dragons are taking over the world, the world needs saved again!). Granted, I probably could've just had the demo start after Mt. Shela. But that's more an afterthought. :P

Actually, it's not too spoilerific.
While it has a few story driven quests (dungeons) there are some other "optional stuff"
I'm trying to make a game where you don't just get money and buy equipment to advance. I want the player to explore the town, talk to the citizens whenever they can to see how they can help. In exchange, they'd upgrade your armor or weapon, or teach you a skill.
But I don't want them to feel like boring errands necessary to survive the next area.
I guess than more than just showing people my game, I just want feedback on how am I doing so far in that.

In that case, why not post it in this studio?

That way we can play and comment with out immortalizing it as a demo that you may end up changing.

Plus if you do change it, the demo would sit in the vault and no longer relate to the game you are making.

I will check it out if you post it :)
