On Friday TAI went to my dads tenants apartment to fix a stove. Turns out that the house was broken into. OMG they have been robbed! TAI called the police and we have found out that there was a drug raid that took place the day before. About 20 cops showed up and ran allover the lawn a neighbor said.

I called the DA's office and they told me not to do anything yet. Because the person there looking for is not there and there waiting for him to come back. The DA told me who it was and I know him. :\

The DA said that they will not pay for the damages done. :(
The cops used a crow bar and a hammer. Broke all the frame work around the door, busted the door knob and cracked a good part of the door itself. Also leaving a whole the size of a basket ball in the hallway wall.
Everything in the apartment was allover the place. They ripped the smoke
alarms down looking for hidden drugs. Broke things and made a big mess.
They also left all there rubber gloves laying all over the place.

DA said, they "did" find narcotics.

We called the insurance company and they said the house is on a 500 deductible. So that means.. We have to cover the first 500.00 and the insurance will pay the rest. The damage done is only 300.00 worth.

Also unsure if the girl who's renting is even going to call back or come back for that matter. It was not her who's in trouble with the law but her brother.

So.. I got to wait a week to find out if her brother got busted or not... sigh.. CrAzYnEsS!

That does sound pretty troublesome. All that police work for someone who just wants to get high?

I don't know what else they want them for, but if the above is all, the damage isn't worth it.

i agree that the damage is excessive in these cases and someone has to pay for it. if nothing is found then they should be accountable since no laws where broken. the tenant is responsible for the damage in a way so just confiscate their damage deposit.

i would of liked to have seen the warrant they used to gain permission to break into the premise. not like it would of done any good but id of at least liked a lawyer to take a peak and see his thoughts on it.

i can understand the amount of damage the drug team does when it comes to big felons like meth lab operators, mob drug cartels, or other dangerous drug/high volume dealers. i dont think they should be hammering down doors for the small timers or for places where its very unlikely that the place is being used to house or operate large scale drug businesses.

im in the decriminalization of small amounts of weed camp, i just think its more realistic in todays world and would be a greater use of resources to focus on more dangerous activities.

in this case, the 300 bucks is really cheap comparatively.

yeah, 300 isn't bad for damage... but i can understand it being bothersome based on like... this is the police they come wreck a place and refuse to clean it up. wtf?
it's like... a bit irresponsible kind of thing =/

Always been that way in my experience.
Just the way them coppers work. I lived in a house that was raided once, the guy had the drugs hid well enough, but apparently they'd tapped his phone with the new Patriot Act non-warrant clause.
I had no idea what was going on, just came back and the door was busted up as you say yours was.
When they couldn't find anything they couldn't corroborate their theory that he'd been speaking in a code language which was refferential to narcotics, which he was, so they just cleared out and didn't bother even discussing the damages.

Is it true that, sometimes if the cops make a bust and find nothing.. That the cops will go as far to plant drugs?
