heh, we almost always play stock matches. timing the whole thing is usually much more based on luck than stock matches, since in a timed match it matters so much more who gets that last lucky hit in. And imo elimination matches are awesome =D

As for use of items...

For most matches we leave a few on. beam sword (it's just cool), bombs, etc. nothing too excessive if we want a game reliant on skill.

of course varying the range of items and their spawn rates can give you some really interesting game types. mines and bombs on 10-life stock, with 2x knockback, for instance. Skill there is all about dodging and running away.

tiny matches with inordinate spawn rates of mini muchrooms and hammers. or those dumbass ray guns, that on super sudden death mode are the only thing protecting you from a high-velocity Fox, or Samus.

one button mode with bombs was one thing we tried. that was... interesting.

Also stock matches with bunny ears, metal boxes and bombs.

bombs are fun. ^.^

some items, the heart container for instance, plain suck. they're annoying, and only work in situations where, for instance, you're playing that game mode where your health goes down to 0 from a certain amount (i forget it's name), on a really small level. Dream land or perhaps Termina Bay. With high drops rate, and only the heart container available, you create a kind of ring out match where both players are trying to win through knocking the other guy off the level.

I think items are an important part of the game, tbh; they allow you to invent many different ways to play.

Well I like to play items for the frenzy, but I tend to turn them all off on occasions, depending on the mood.
And having matches with specific items can be fun indeed. How can wreak the most havoc in a Very High Pokeballs only match? Or stuff like that.

My friend Eric and I play very high pokeballs cause I use Fox and he uses Falco...so it ends up being a reflector fest. Loads of fun.

I agree... it's kind of fun to mess around with items from time to time.

But when it's a matter of just fighting to see who's better, I like stock fights... no items... and a level like Final Destination.

You bet I play the original. I actually consider it better since it's more fun (melee tends to be played a little too seriously)

[spoiler]Falco and Wolf seem to be clones of Fox (or at least share the same Final Smash, Ganondorf doesn't use a sword and seem to be still a clone (maybe a Luigified clone, as they say. ROB is in. This has been enough to make a lot of people very angry. It's funny I think, the roster may not be impressive for some, but I believe what makes Smash bros a good game is not necessarily how many character it has, but the amount of Nintendo history it represents through it's characters, stages and trophies. Oh well, to each his own.[/spoiler]

So apparently Smash Bros Dojo is officially going into "spoiler mode". All updates from here on are secrets and hidden stuff. Me, I'm gonna pass, and wait and find out the secret stuff on my own.

So, if you've heard about the Mag meet we had at FWA... you might have heard that Ix, Kajak, and I joined a Melee tourny.

Well, at the last minute they announced that they will not be having it. Because someone imported a copy of the japanese Brawl.

It was a 50 player Smash Bros Brawl tourny.

3 days away and litterally no talk about it?

Possibly the quite before the storm?

In all honestly, I'm not going to be picking it up immediately. I've committed to finish a few select games I'm in the middle of first before I do. Becuase I know I won't go back and finish them with it there. Ah well.

Anyway, just trying to get ppl talkin again.
