I was browsing around Gamestop and EBgames in my local town today, and was searching for Odin Sphere.

No dice. Surprised? Not I. Atlus games get so FREAKING HARD TO FIND.

So, I was looking around the used PS2 stuff, and saw Ys: The Ark of Napishtim.

When I saw the price tag for $14.99, I'm figuring I can't go wrong. A friend of mine on livejournal seems to like this series, and the resident guy in anime club who could wax a floor with the grease in his hair likes Ys.

I went on the internet when I got back from being out today to find that the game has good reviews for the most part, and there are quite a few more Ys games on the PS2.

What are your general thoughts on the series, perhaps this game in particular, and should I bother to hunt anymore down?

Was I lucky in Gamestop for once? I mean, I wasn't even looking for this, perhaps it was fate for me to actually buy a good game? I really need to start playing it and find out as well.:D

I don't know much about the series, but I did play a little bit of this game. It is simple hack 'n slash RPG which can be somewhat difficult. Keep in mind, I haven't played the game long.

You're in luck, I have an Odin Sphere that I don't want.

Gamestop, you never get what you go for, but sometimes things turn out better that way. I remember I was looking for a certian game when I found RPGM3 just sitting there. It was like $25 Needless to say I've spent more time on it then any other game I own except for maybe FF7 and 10.

I have'nt played any of the series, but I did think about renting it once. Maybe if you like I'll check it out. I like mindless hack'n slash.

I would have too, if I didn't just hock the game to SK. The game was all hyped up and just didn't put out for what it was build up for. THe game play got really repetitive after, i dunno... the second person. Leveling them up took 50 forevers.
And even after beating their individual stories, I still had to go back and level them all up extra just to beat the bosses.
It was just too time consuming with very little reward. The only thing Odin Sphere has going for it is a decent story. It's good to see how the 5 stories overlap eachother. But as far as replay value... there is none. I doubt I'll every play that one again.

And I have no experience with Ys games.

...yet.

I'm pretty sure this one and it's PSP port are the only Ys games available outside of Japan.

How do you pronouce "Ys" anyway?

eesse i think

"It rhymes with "fleece." The Y is pronounced as a long "E" sound, and the S is sibilant (hissing). It is not pronounced "ease.""

I've often heard it pronounced Yeese. which rhymes with ease.
