Back around January I asked what most of the mag members had planned for the year, and they replied the whole year through.
http://www.rpgmmag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3625
And so, this topic centers on what people said they were going to do and what actually happened. Note that this isn't a topic meant to bring anyone down or annoy you: rather, it's more of a topic of self-reflection. And so, without much further ado, let's get on with it.

I did my research and this is what I found.

*From me:
Quote:
My goal is to get Usuru out by the end of the year.

Check! I met my goal this year.

*From Beauty_Queen:

Quote:
Mainly, i'll be releasing PoC.I'll be looking forward to it, but i'm only just releasing the demo and the demo pretty much has a long duration.

Maybe i'll be releasing it at March or April maybe?Who knows...

Wrong BQ actually said this best herself in the Overlord forums:
Quote:
....PoC is finished but i'm still not uploading it yet. I'm thinking of releasing it with this game together, hopefully ^^

And while it may be true that she finished the title, it wasn't released, let alone March or April.

*From facts (myoky)

Quote:
My goal is to get a demo of Endless Saga spanning about half of Alex's story out by March.

Wrong. No such demo was ever released to the Mag or Pav.

*From Draygone
Quote:
As for big games that I'm gonna release this year, the only game I'm working on is Slayers' Reign. Whether that'll be done this year or not is another story. A vague schedule I'm using is me taking no more than two months per scenario card. So, allowing an extra month or two after finishing for testing and adding subquests, I'd be done in time for Christmas. But this is assuming that I don't have any big obstacles to deal with, like time and memory.

Wrong. Most unfortunate, that.

*From Perversion
Quote:
I'm shooting for Episode 1 of Series 4 to be done by April or May, and Episode 2 and its respective teaser to be done before X-mas of this year. That would leave next year to work on Episode 3 and Episode Zero.

Yes and No. While episode 1 was released this year, episode 2 is a contestant in the Sequelablooza Contest, which was deyaled until 2008.

*From Crythania
Quote:
At the very least, Tales Of Valasia will be released ... umm, sometime this
year.

Nope. Next year, perhaps?

*From vanquish3000
Quote:
I making The Dragon Child for 2007, but I going to enter the Sequelpalooza Contest

Oddly enough, check The game was released just a few days ago, which means that his goal was met. Good job!

*From DuelPro
Quote:
I hope i can release the Rpgmmag demo by this year.

Quote:
Krazy Week, will be released this year.

Double negative. We didn't see either of these games come out.

*From Pagerron
Quote:
The demo for Daniel's Quest III will come out next week if everything goes as planned.

Check! And hopefully we'll see a full release of the game next year.

*From Anonymous Bo
Quote:
I intend to release "Who did this!?" by early next week.

Barely check! While it took the rest of the year to get here, Who Did This? actually came out a few days ago.

*From Ixzion:
Quote:
My very first game, Return to Exia, is coming to the Mag sometime this year. I am currently going through it to correct errors and shiz before I release it.

Wrong. This one sadly never came out.

*From Ivan Rosengaurd

Quote:
The demo for my Sci-Fi/Supernatural/Dark Comedy opus, "The God Gene", or Genetically Engineered Super-humans and You: You May Already Be Obsolete will be released before the end of the month (if not the beginning of next week). The release of the full game is looking like sometime February next year. And once I'd said on the Pav that it would come out in June.

Wrong. Much as I had hoped for the demo, it hasn't come out yet.

*From insult080t

Quote:
I'm shooting for a 2007 release date for the R:SotK Demo.

Wrong. Never saw it. Looks like some unexpected problems held it back.

So, what's the tally we have here?
Total predictions=15
Failed=10
Successful=5

Good job to those who conquered their goals. And for everyone else, there's always next year!

I like the idea of the goals, but not the numbers that turned out. I think this would be a good idea for next year.

Wow, nice research!

But at least our perpetual failure to meet our deadlines for announced games indicates that we have what it takes to work at Nintendo! :lol

I like that you are keeping us honest.

Let's do this thing!

I feel embarrassed though.

I feel horrible... but my failure has already given me a reason to work on my game.

I actually think I'll work on it tonight.

Yeah I have a personal goal of at least an hour a day. That could be playtesting adjusting stats or whatever. Generally I work more then that though so I'm happy with my progress. Still have to get that hour in tonight. I hope to go until I get the story event done though so that could be 3 hours.

I didn't have any goals, did I?

'Cause if I had, I either forgot or completely failed to achieve them. ^^

This is a great list. However, I am STILL working on Return to Exia and I do still have 24 hours to pull through on my vow. :p

I'd say I'm very close to completing the game. Maybe at 90% right now.

07 was mostly a year of world design and prep work for me. I did get a lot of prep work accomplished (paperwork that you'll never see). I also spent quite a bit of time struggling with a plethora of new gameplay ideas I brought to the table, mulling it all over, doing a bit of prep work for them, and weeding out bad ideas from the mix.

Borrowing a bit of multi-modal thought from Anonymous Bo, I don't believe it was a bad thing. The end result will be better off for it. Sometimes I "bark up the wrong tree" of a bad idea and then have to realize that. Then I get back on the right track. Some of the bad ideas that won't work for the current project are being saved for possible use in a future project.

I got the entire game world for "Tales Of Valasia" created, among numerous other things (characters, items). I actually took a break from it during the summer and got started on the game world for the third game. Rough drafts of towns, dungeons, and one of the field maps. When I'm eventually ready to resume working on that project, there's some good work there that's already been put in place.

I also have rough drafts of the stories for both games planned out in my head.

2008 will be the year. I will finish my second game... if it kills me.

1ce, this was a genuinely good idea. Best idea I've seen put into a thread in a long time.

In fact, I would like to see one every year if you're up for it. Maybe that alone with get the tally a bit up to par next time.

^_^

I'm slightly inclined to agree. So...where should we post our goals for this year?! :P

And it would've worked, too, if it weren't for my writer's block. Why did I have to decide the plot during the second half of the game was convulted? Convulted or not, there were no holes.

What's worse, I actually told a few people what that plot was, thinking that I would eventually scrap it. And now I'm thinking that I should go back to it, considering I just can't come up with any other plot.

Glad to hear it. I was actually thinking about doing this every year, as long as lots of people put in some plans.

A slight correction to your first post, 1ce...Episode 1's teaser (not a demo, but a short-1 to 2 hour-self-contained game) was released, but not the entire game of Episode 1. Also, my proposed entry in the contest was a sequel to my first game, Series 1, titled, logically, Series 2. This is NOT the same game as Episode 2 of Series 4. Confusing, I know.

I also finished 3 garbage games, and submitted them to the Pav for the contest, in addition to making another short game, originally for the garbage contest. Then I realized it was almost too good to be considered "garbage," and due to being limited to three entries, I decided to release it on its own merits.

EDIT: Correction...Episode 1's teaser was released in mid-December 2006. The rest of the info in this post is accurate.

Forgive me. Figuring out the order to your A Series Aside games is incredibly difficult.

:facepalm

Obviously, it's more confusing than I thought, because A Series Aside is the name of one individual game, and is in no way connected to any ongoing story or characters. I called it Aside, as it is an aside from the rest of my released or in-progress games, which have a more traditional structure.
