How about Americans: mistaken?

You guys still have a queen right? Does that make you mad or just mistaken and overly traditional (hey just like Americans)?

lmao... you missed the not very subtle undertones of

'correct your course or we'll blow you out of the water'?

and he was talking to a f*cking Lighthouse, because he's on one of the most advanced ships in the world and too stupid to check who he's talking to?

In this instance we're talking about way more than mistaken; this guy is in a position of power and honestly? that scares the crap out of me somewhat. dealing with it in terms of 'error' as you seemed to be trying to is... cute, but not when the guy's willing to blow stuff up over it. then it's just wilfully ignorant.

every country in the world has traditions. i fail to see the parity between having them, and being willing to blow a canadian lighthouse straight off the map just because you're a total jerk. this is the kind of guy you find it appropriate to put in charge of huge lumps of violent floating metal?

if anything, i expected someone to tell me that to make a generalisation from this one instance was bad reasoning. that, again, wouldn't be such a great response; after all that's how examples work. you point out one instance of a trend. there's nothing about this instance that denies the existence of a trend, though a belief that there's nothing about it that confirms the existence is one is cool. *shrug* hence the poll, i was asking because i suspect it's a genuine question.

*shrug*

Wow, it's tied ^____^ this is a pivotal moment. I put yes because i'm biased. Then i read your post. =D

I do enjoy that joke now and then. try not to read/think about it too often, might spoil the fun. or something.

But i do think americans are bad, partially because i'm just hugely biased toward cinnamon buns, and partially because there is STILL a war in Iraq... which went from being a War on Terror (a War on War?) accused of being a infiltration for oil to being a... peace mission? (screwing for virginity?) accused of being incompetence and inability to get the f**k out. to be honest i was thinking the other day.. that i really have absolutely no idea what the whole thing in the middle east is doing/ is about at this particular point in time. =S

Make sure not to place blame squarely on ALL US citizens. More than half of us didn't choose Bush to begin with.

Our government is quite corrupted right now. The President is more like a king, Congress is his lapdog. However I, along with a mounting amount of Americans, are trying to get a man with integrity into the White House who will get this war done with. You know I mean Ron Paul. ;)

But the joke is quite funny.

Why don't you come to america to find out, I'm pretty sure the answer you're looking for won't happen in certain areas.

ah, now i think there's a difference between saying Americans are rabid, and saying America is rabid. i was referring more to the way you guys conduct yourself internationally, and also i guess to your increasingly odd political structure.

Did you know that the Boston Strangler was honoured as an American hero, for his work in population control? The bill was presented to the Texas House in a sucessful attempt to demonstrate how so many bills in the US are passed without even being read/understood.

Yep. It's because so many bills are passed so quickly, that no one has time to read it. They just skim it and give it a stamp of approval.

There's been a bill made to make it a practice to only vote on bills a week after they've been introduced, to give people adequate time to read it. I don't think I need to mention who made that bill. :p

Yeah, we're mad as hell and we aren't gonna take it any more!!
I actually read this a couple days ago in a philosophy book I have. We're nuts, and I'm not excluding myself.

@ Regal

I understand the undertones, but I am referring to the fact that the behavior was by a group of individuals. What if they were all men, what if they were all, Irish Men, what if they were all Irish Men over 50, are you then going to create a poll for all those demographics?

What is consistent is that they seemed to follow a policy (or tradtion) that they were not going to question and act in compliance with.

I don't see them as being 'willfuly ignorant' if they actually thought the lighthouse was a moving vessel. They were mistaken about what it was and acted incompliance with their military tradition. If they were being willfully ignorant, it was about their choice to comply with their military policy.

Maybe you could have narrowed down your poll about the 'madness' of 'America' a wee bit unless you were being willfully ignorant (of say the other ways to characterize the individuals involved (other than 'mad') and the other ways to group them (other than 'America)) .

@Bo; oh; and for the purposes of the thread; no.

no to the entire thing. you've got it completely wrong.

and don't tell me what question i should ask, thanks. i asked the question i did because i wanted an answer to it. not to some other question that in your opinion i should've asked.

call me a pedant, but i think that in this case you have acted...

literally without thinking.
