The 80 Gig was $599. Now it is $499 (WOW THAT'S $100!).

But then again the 60 Gig was $499, so actually it's not like having a price cut, but (to a person like myself who would have been completely happy with the 60 Gig system) it's more like getting 20 more Gig (you probably don't need) for the same price.

So how much did the 60 Gig drop (because like I said, that would have been the reasonable model for me as a non-fanboy)? $499. Because there is no 60 Gig anymore. The new low end model is 40 Gig for $399, hey but guess what, it doesn't play PS2 games! What is the reason for that? Sony said it was due to a more extensive linup of games on the PS3!

First of all, that is using the words 'more' and 'extensive' quite liberally. Show me the games!

Second, SO WHAT?! Are we going to be so distracted from the stupendous PS3 lineup that we'll just forget we want to also play PS2 games on the system (cough-like RPGM2 and RPGM3), just like we could have done on the older system!

So the 60 Gig (the reasonable less expensive model that I would have wanted)effectively dropped price by $100 (HEY THAT'S GREAT) and for that you also LOSE 20 Gig and the ability to play PS2 games on it (WHAT!!!)!

THANK YOU SONY!!! Your the best!

Note: Someone please confirm that the new 80 Gigs will still be made with the ability to play PS2. If that model also lost the ability to play RPGM2 and RPGM3, then...well, I've said too much already.

Also if it did not then by "more extensive lineup of games for the PS3" they really meant, "force you to buy the more EXPENSIVE model of PS3).

Nobody's responded to this yet? Well, you've probably recieved your answer by now, but I haven't seen it, so I'll answer anyway. The 80-Gig can play PS2 games. But they've dropped the Emotion Engine or something like that, so the amount of compatible games is diminished to a freaking huge extent. Think Xbox-360 backwards-compatability, except from what I hear, worse.

Finally, a real reason to buy this beast. I don't trip off of not being able to play PS2 games on it, reason being, I like to save the console's life for the games specifically made for it.

Besides, you can always get a used PS2 for cheap, with a warranty. :D

Thanks for the info Bo, even though I was a little late to respond. :P

I'm surprised too. Yeah, I've been waiting patiently. Thanks for responding first.

The problem though is that with the PS3, you were suppose to be able to easily share game saves online, right to any one who was here for the April' Fool's fiasco (which I had a large part in :blush ). That means that you have to upload and download the RPGM2 and RPGM3 the old fashioned way requring a maxdrive (or similar drive) and the PS2, instead of what I thought was a much easier way on a the next-gen (originally) backwards compatible cheaper 60 GIG model. If I understand this correctly, which I may not.

@DuelExpert, have you tried playing RPGM 2 or 3 on your 80 GIG and what about transfering game saves?

Anyone?

Heh, I picked up an 80 before even the price drop... really doesn't concern me. Fact is, you get what you pay for.
