So, I went to a Smash Bros. tournament earlier today, played as Link.
There were 30 people, I got crushed in the first round by the guy that won the whole thing.

After I lost, I noticed that they had another game set up where they were playing four player for fun. Decided to play in that and played as Ness. Got owned a couple times.

So, when I got home, I thought I'd practice up on Melee. Played a few rounds as Link (He's pretty much my main now.), with the computers set on 7-8. Then my brother came down and was telling me to look up all this stuff about what the pros do in Smash Bros. I'm like 'no, I don't care.' and he keeps bothering me about it. I told him that I really don't care about being a pro at the game, I just want to play the game... And now he thinks I'm a retard because of that...

Anyway, I played him in a few rounds, he played as Fox/Falco/C. Falcon/Ganondorf/Zelda, and I beat him every time. (He blamed it on the controller.)

Anyway, my question to you is this: Do you think I'm a retard for wanting to be in a Smash Bros. tournament, but don't care if I win?

Also, have you gone to any tournaments for games? (My library has them all the time, usually for Guitar Hero, DDR, and SSBM.)

I forgot to mention that there were alot of freaks there that were like 20 year old guys that had no job, life, ect.

There's a Gamecrazy that I used to go to that held tourney's for many games. Summer of '05 I was the champion of the SSBM contest. Owned with Samus, Link, and Pika.

That was pretty cool. Also did decent at other tourney's, like HSG4 and F-Zero. Didn't give out any worthwhile prizes though.

After that contest, I met some real pros and got crushed. So, my competitive spirit is still pretty crushed, and I play just for fun now.

Problem is, there's always someone out there better than you.

Alhough I like to think I'm the puzzle league champ....

Every tournament I've been to is hosted by a friend or someone I don't know.

I don't think it's retarded. That's the kind of thing I'd do. But for some people, losing is not an option. Maybe the fact that I lost very often (I try to think that I'm not a bad player, but I'm surrounded by friends and family that are waaay better than me ) that leads me to play just for fun.

Peach is my main in Melee, and I sometimes check guides and stuff to see how pros play her, but only as a way to improve myself. But it's not something I do a lot or would die if don't do.

I wen to a Magic the Gathering tournement once, i was the youngest person there.

I went to a Smash Bros tournament at my Dorm in college once. Got out in the first round as Yoshi. But know I don't think it's retarded to go to them even though you might not be the best. At the least it's a chance to get out and be social. And by playing others who are good you might learn a few things on how to get better (even if learning what not to do).

But of course I never get too into games and try to be perfect at them, because then it's more work than fun, and I play games to have fun.
