People seem to find words hard to say, Like "I love you, I'm sorry, and thank you"

Why are these words so hard to say?

Do you have trouble saying these words to people?

What are your thoughts?

I have no problem thanking anyone for helping me.

Saying I'm sorry is incredibly tough for me. In a way, the reason for that is: saying sorry is basically saying you did do something. I don't try to avoid mishaps when I'm wrong, but if I have a shred of doubt that what I did wasn't my fault, I wouldn't say it, because it would be a guilty plea.

But the most important reason why sorry is a tough word to say is this: My experinces have shown me people don't care if you say it or not.

So long as I mean it, saying all of the above is very easy.

Sometimes, the hardest word for me to say is NO.
If by chance, you've seen Foster Home for Imaginary Friends, there's an episode in which I felt so identified with Wilt!
I like to be doing things, so if anybody needs help and asks me, I say "Sure" without thinking, even if I'm very tired, or if I end up in a tight schedule because of that.

That's interesting. No being something hard to say. But I can see what you mean.

Like its always hard for me to say No to my mom. Because I'm so use to her saying "I'm going to beat you to death if you don't do what your told".

But now that I'm older I should be able to think for my self. And say No thanks mom. If I really don't want something.

Now with THANK YOUS. I kinda have a strange hang up. I can only say thank you after something is done. It's really strange. I had people ask me about it to.

Lets say, you invite me to dinner. I will not say Thank you
at dinner. I will say thank you after. I guess its part habit for me to say thank you after something. Not during some thing. I kinda find it hard to say it just to say it any other time.

Edit: Needed to fix my diners to say dinners. :p

Almost like.. If I say thank you too soon your gonna say your welcome and tell me to stop eating.
Or like if someone is doing me a favor and before the favor is completed and I say thank you. They think now the job is done. And thats not really what I wanted. lol

So yeah.. Thank yous are strange for me.

I think sorries are the hardest though for me.

"I love yous" are easy but I'm more afraid of people rejecting the word then feeling like I just can't say it.

Like, I know Regal is the type that if I said, I love you Regal. He wont
be like.. Well, I don't go away. He will be thankful. So I need to know how people are to say that. Its also easier telling a girl that you love them. Because most girls respond well to it. So thats really the only thing. Oh yeah.. I find it easier to tell my mom that I love her then my dad. My dad always had that trooper thing about him. Kinda like the word love is for wimps. And I don't want my dad to see me as a wimp. lol

oh, great.

i'm effeminate, now. =P

.... well, seriously... iunno. i find all of it very easy, i'm just confident (overconfident) like that or something. but on the flipside, sometimes i'm not sure if i even know what it all means.

you can use a word too much. i often do.

it makes you forget, kinda, what it means. if nothing else, being unable to say it all the time keeps it special... but i can understand that it could be frustrating at the same time.

i say no and end up doing whatever it is i've been asked to do anyway, because i wouldn't feel right about not doing it. ^^;

some days, i feel like saying that you love someone is a big thing, a huge thing i can't even grasp the edges of. some days i say it and i feel like i'm just missing the point. anyone else know what i mean?

You can say "thank you for inviting me to dinner, this is really nice of you" at the start of dinner and "thanks again for dinner, I had a great time" at the end of dinner.

Also you should require yourself uncomfortably to say "thank you" at the start of dinner to test whether or not someone is actually going to say "stop eating". You need to train yourself to be rational if your dominating fear is irrational. You'll find out that they won't say "stop eating" by actually witnessing (as opposed to speculating about) their behavior and if they really do say "stop eating" you can learn to say that if someone tells me to stop eating after inviting me to dinner when all I said was "thank you" (which I really wanted to deep down) then I can do without this dinner.

Very true Bo. Again its more so habit. I've been thought to say thank you my whole life "after" someone hands me a cookie. "After" I open a gift. "After" someone does something nice for me.

I guess, its because I do find thank yous hard. I only really want to say it once. :/

And its not because I'm not thankful. I'm very thankful. I don't know. Its something I been doing since a kid and I never changed.

It could also be that my mom always made me feel embarrassed when saying thank you. Like right when I'm about to say thank you. She says, Well!, Are you not going to say thank you? With a very ugly face. So I don't know. I been kinda afraid of it or something. lol

Yeah, it seems that you need to sweat out some of the negative reinforcement that your mother projected onto you.

I'm sure you can do it if you want.

Yes, I know what your saying.. When I was 14 I was dating this boy. He told me.. I don't want to say "I love you" and not mean it. I don't want to say I love you all the time and have it lose it's meaning."

But you know.. Thinking about what he was saying to me made me feel like.. He was just avoiding saying how he really feels. And if you really love someone. Even if you say it 100 times a day. If you feel it, you mean it. It's what you feel in your heart. It's when you stop saying it, that's when people start to worry.

Of course this love only really applies to a mate relationship. If your just a dear friend of mine and you told me that you love me 100 times a day. I'm going to say, sweetie you need help finding a date tonight? Because I'm taken. :lol

Almost no trouble saying "thank you".

Almost never say "I'm sorry" because I don't usually do anything that requires me saying that.

I don't say "I love you". I don't know why. There's something about the word "love" that I don't like used in any context other than when one likes a food or something a whole lot.

No trouble with "thank you."
No trouble with "sorry."
And "I love you" is more complicated, but I wouldn't say it's harder to say.

And related to 1ce's comment: my experience has shown me that it does not matter what you say, but how you say. So with time I get less and less picky about the content of my speech and more concentrated on its form. =P

You really mean that? Sure it doesn't always mean everything but it almost never means nothing.

Yeah, but that is akin to what the Gnasher was saying about how you say something. i think the same goes with "I'm sorry", "thank you" and "no". They all have differnent meanings depending on how and who you are saying them to, thus I have no probelm using them per se.

I see no reason for treating words or phrases to have an inherent, universal meaning or context.

I find it hard saying no, too.

It ends up screwing me in the long run.

I can easily say no, but the rest are more difficult for me. I can say any of them when I don't mean it but when it comes time to be sincere I usually change the subject.

I hate it when people are "LOOKING" for you to say something. It would feel good to say something that I mean then just to say something like its a favor.
