Remember back before the launch of the next gen consoles (namely the Wii/PS3 lauch) around the time when the PS3's price was announced? Remember how everyone talked about how over priced that is?

I'm not saying it isn't pricy... because it is. It really is. I found it worth it, but it doesn't change the fact that it costs alot of money and people made sure that everyone else knew it.

What's grabbing my goat here is that a f*cking phone comes out for the same price and no one ever raises an eyebrow... In fact, it seems that everyone perfectly okay with it.

Is there anyone here who'd pay that much for an iPhone but wouldn't buy a PS3 because it's too expensive? In fact, is there anyone here who owns an iPhone at all?

Actually, I've been complaining about the iPhone since the price was annouced, I just never did it online because no one ever asked me about it.

And no, I don't I'll ever own a PS3 or an iPhone... EVER!

It's all about what you get out of it. If paying a lot of money is worth it to one and one has the money, then it is worth it.

But it brings up the question of judgement for those who either don't have the money or for one who doesn't really get a significant amount out of it as to why they would buy it in the first place.

To my understanding, the iPhone doesn't do anything more than what cell phones were capable of doing before. Browsing the internet, play media files, and such... The only real diffrence I've seen is that it's a much more animated menu that you can slide around with your finger. But even touch screens aren't all that new...

I also heard you can't take out the battery... if it's lythium ion like every other cell phone, I'm expecting it'll need changing after a good while. What do you do? I'm pretty sure you don't buy a new phone. The only other thing I can think of is that you send it in somewhere to be replaced professionally. I'm sure that's not very cheap.

(On an unrealated note, for the first time I've looked into a Wii controller and saw what seemed to be 2 double A batteries encased together. Can you change those out with normal double A batteries, or do you have to buy a special... (dare I say it)... BatterWii?)

I guess what I'm getting at is wondering which sounds more outrageous: a $600 Playstation, or a $600 phone... and if the answer is the latter of the two, why hasn't anyone said anything?

Already raised this point with a few friends who want an iPhone. Not that it really matters to them. They're either rich or their parents are.

I on the other hand completely agree... (although I never really thought the ps3 was terribly overpriced.) $600 for a phone is ridiculous. That f*ckin thing better shoot lazer beams or turn into a hover board!

Heh, actually... I'll give it credit. Seeing as phones (and it seems consoles as well) are trying to become more like computers... the iPhone pulls it off the best. I've heard some issues with the broswer and the net being like, uber slow... but still. I've seen full desktops that were cheaper. Granted, they were crappy Dell jobs... but on the other hand, my computer I built was just a few bills higher than what it would cost for an iPhone. And I'm sorry, but nothing on the market yet is better thank a good old desktop.

Personally I think consoles should just worry about playing games and that phones should just worry about making calls. I can see the convieniance of taking pics and whatnot with phones... but still, it just seems like over-kill from time to time.

I don't mind the extras in consoles myself. At least the weather, news, and photo channels didn't add much to the price of a Wii (if anything), and a $5 internet channel allows me to watch Youtube on my TV. :)

The Wiimote can take two AAs.

And I haven't complained about the iPhone's price because I could care less about it. I complained about PS3's price because it was actually something I was planning on getting sometime, especially if an RPG Maker winds up on it.

*double-takes*

Wtf, Regal... where the bloody hell did you come from?! Heh, it's been a while.

Anyway... I think I follow. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd think a $600 phone would be more worth while than a $600 gaming system. Though, I believe I could get by just as well with a $20 phone as I would a $600 one.

There are next generation games I wish to play... but last I heard, there are no next generation phone conversations, you know?

Dude, go buy an iPod. 30GB one is 450 dollars new (I think) and around 150-200 dollars on eBay.
Then go buy a 20 dollar phone, and you're set.

There aren't that many benefits in having a phone and MP3 player in the same thingie. What's the problem in having two thingies? =P

I've never had need for an MP3 player. I've got a computer at home and work and a CD payer in my car... That pretty much covers all the places I'm at that I would desire and form of audio media. So your statment is all the more true.
=P

*skateboards in*

my mp3 player cost $30. not sure if it still works, but when i used it it worked fine.

i r teh cheapness ^^; most of the money having been spent on international travel and saved up for computer stuff and forthcoming rent payments ^_^

i'm hoping i'll be back on more often soon enough. i'll try to update soon, anyway. because it has indeed been a while.

I don't really use phones or play games.

All prices will generally drop, however.

Except gas.

Or houses.

I think why people didn't raise a big stink about the iPhone is because the only people generally interested in buying it were fans of Apple, and their used to Apples high prices.

The PS3, on the other hand, is a video game console. Generally, before the Wii, PS3, even Xbox 360, video games were pretty affordable. The average joe casual gamer could go out, buy a console/handheld and not worry about the price. Nowadays though they load the consoles with all this "pro" gamer stuff (i.e., Hi-def support, wireless, internet, etc.) that jacks up the price so that the casual gamers who don't care about that stuff feel as though the price is too high.
