TAI will only see a movie if it got a star rating of an 8 or higher. If not I either have to drag him to see it or wait for it on video.

Does the ratings really matter??

I think I've liked some badly rated movies, so I don't really care about ratings.

Usually reviews can be a good indication if it's good or not, and I myself do care about reviews.

The problem that I see is not with whether or not reviews are valuable indicators about whether or not a movie is generally good, but rather why one would be resistant to seeing movies that are generally not good according to a review. Many movies that are not generally good are great to a specific individual.

In other words, even if the review is accurate that the movie is not generally good, why not see it if ya wife wants too.

EDIT: Going to see a movie is not always about the movie itself but rather about the "going to see" part, so the reviews (even when accurate) are only partially relevant.

Some times its just nice to go out and do something.. Even if you think it may stink. It's something to do.

Movie critics are assholes. They only care about movies like Steel Magnolias (barf) or gay cowboys eating pudding.

They hate awesome comedies and action flicks.

They suck.

Mixed agreement with Ix, BW, and AB.....(wow on the abbr. points)

I don't follow what critics say. A lot of movies I like a rated bad. But I don't think critics are useless. Depends on the movie and why you're going to see it.

That's the thing. Critics seem to share the same standard on what makes a movie good, but this is not a fair representation of the diverstity of tastes but more of either a compromise, or a specific 'classical' standard.

Well, How many Critics review the same movie when giving a statement?

Even if 100 different Critics say that a movie is bad. That is
less then 1% of many, many, people who may think its good.

Movie ratings doesn't really matter in my opinion anyway. Every each movie is good, it really depends on how you look at it.

Just forget about those critics that say that "this movie is bad", i mean you haven't watched it yourself ^^

I just saw Rush Hour 3. Good movie, but the
critics didn't like it.
