I'm a bit of a Norse Mythology buff. I'm thinking of doing an rpg slightly mixed between VP and Ragnarök (the manga). It be slightly D&D styled...but not a complex. I'm to lazy for that

I would give it a shot. As long as it isn't too complicated. Like I was wanting to play Gnasher's, but I got all confuseld. Anyway, sounds interesting.

What level of posting commitment would it have? Something like Jamos' game, which you barely have to think about to post? Or something more complex?
The thing is, I'd like to play, but I am kinda too busy... I'm participating in 3 games in other forums already, and those really munch away my time. Doesn't sound like it, but one post per day in a game of high posting complexity really makes a difference in a busy day.

@Jamos - Not at all. I think maybe a few very basic stats...with a leveling system based on kills. Kinda like yours. Maybe a few special skills. Mostly story driven though.

I'm not sure if I know about the Norse Mythology. If its anything like D&D I think I would like it. I'm not into the whole star trek D&D. Funny that I am a big fan of the shows. I don't like trying to play other people because well, I'm not them.

But yeah.. Let me know more about this Norse Mythology, And I may give it a shot.

I love Greek mythology. I'm sure its along those lines. And I understand that Odin (One of my cats names) is from the Norse Mythology. But that's all I really know.

Hmm, since there are a few of you that are unfamiliar with Norse Mythos I'll give you a brief rundown and setting that will be used in this rp. Here goes nothing.

In Norse Mythology there are nine worlds. Asgard, the realm of the Aesir, one of the two sets of Norse Gods. Vanaheim, the realm of the Vanir, the second of the two sets of Norse Gods. Midgard, the realm of mortal men. Muspell, the fire realm and home of Surt, the fire lord. Niflheim, an underworld of ice ruled over by Hel and home of the frost giants. Alfheim, secret realm of the elves. Svartalfheim, secret realm of the dark elves. Nidavellir, realm of the dwarves. And Jotunheim, realm of giants.

All these worlds are connected by Yggdrasil, the world tree. Asgard is at the top of Yggdrasil, while Niflheim is located at the bottom where Nithogg, the eater dragon naws upon the roots. The other realms are spread along the branches between the two.

Ragnarok, the last battle, is a final battle between the forces of order and chaos (norse mythology focuses more on order vs. chaos than good vs. evil). The Aesir and Vanir face off against the forces of Jotunheim, Niflheim, and Muspell.

This rp will take place a few years before Ragnarok. Six years before Ragnarok a three-year winter begins. After that a 3 year period of terror, caused by natural disasters and plague ingulfs the worlds. This rp will take place 2 years into the three year winter. The rp starts in Midgard, in the city of Prontera.

As for characters. You can be whoever you want to be except for High Level Gods and Villians. For instance it would be fine for someone to be a Valkyrie (just try not to use any of the important ones. Just make one up.) but you can't be Odin, or Thor, or Loki for instance. Just use your head

Also you should note that most of the rp will take place in Midgard, so it's going to be hard on you if you want to play as a giant or something. Dwarves can sometimes disguise themselves as short men. Elves can also disguise themselves. Half dwarves and Half elves have no need to disguise themselves. They blend right in. (Just so you know Dwarves and Elfs aren't necessarily looked on well among the mortals of Midgard. They're very superstitious.)

Anyways. All of the characters played are going to be heroes summoned by the King of Prontera. Send me your character bio in a pm. Gonna try to keep your bios secret so you have to find out about each other in the rp.

Basic equipment is like what weapons you carry and any stuff like that. Special traits are things your good at or can do. Don't go crazy on those
You can have more than one phobia but you have to have at least one. Phobia's should be things that are debilitating to your character. I'd try to at least say how you character is effected by them If not I'll probably decide that myself

One thing, your description of the realms, etc. is based on VP/Ragnarok or directly on mythology? Just curious ^^ It's that from what I know, Nidhogg was a serpent...

@Gnasher - I'm using primarily things driectly from Norse mythos. However many of our setttings and some ideas are from Ragnarok/VP. For instance Prontera is a town in Ragnarok.

The eater dragon, Nidhogg, has been called both a dragon and a serpent. In Norse mythos the primary word for creatures of that type was Wyrm. Wyrm indicates the long snakelike body of a serpent. However Nidhog was most definitely a dragon, because of the mention of his ability to fly in the Voluspa. here is a translated excerpt.

There comes the shadowy
dragon flying,
glittering serpent, up
from Dark of the Moon Hills.
He carries in his pinions
—he flies over the field—
Malice Striker, corpses.
Now will she sink.

And the same part translated by another.

From below the dragon
dark comes forth,
Nithhogg flying
from Nithafjoll;
The bodies of men
on his wings he bears,
The serpent bright:
but now must I sink

While both dragon and serpent are mention, Nidhog is history viewed as a dragon because all translations end refering to his flight of Vigrid, the site of the final battle. (interesting to note that jormangund, the midgard serpent is the opposite. His decriptions in the voluspa describe writhing and a rare translation of slithering.)

@DP - Ummm, you can basically be human, elf, or dwarf. Or any combination of the three for that matter. No giants since we're in the midgard and you'd basically be hunted. Oh yeah, you can be dark elves...but if you do you're gonna have a hard time keeping you're identity secret and if you don't you'll probably be hunted. Anyone who wants to be a darkelf I suggest being at least half human so you can blend in. You can also be a low ranking god of the Aesir or Vanir. Basically that mostly means you can be a valkyrie or an einheriar. However if you are a valkyrie you'll have to keep your identity hidden so if you make a valkyrie you'll have to send me a few notes for you're cover identity as well.

I think that pretty much covers it. Let me know if any of you have questions.
