If you have a working DexDrive, please share with us the following information:
1) The Name and Version of your Operating System.
2) The Make and Model of your Motherboard.
3) The make and model of a USB-To-Serial Port adapter (if you use one).
4) Which Serial Port on the Motherboard you are using (if you are using one).
5) The BIOS Settings for your COM Port/Serial Port (If you are using one).

If you could also list the following, it would be very helpful:
a) Bits per second
b) Data bits
c) Parity
d) Stop bits
e) Flow Control
f) FIFO Settings, and weither they are On or Off.
g) Any other Com Port settings that you have options for.

You can find the information for "a" to "g" by doing the following:
Click Start, then go to "Settings", then click on "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel.
Once you are in the Control Panel, double-click the icon named "System".
If you can't see the icon named "System", you can switch to "Classic View" by clicking that option on the left.
Once you have the "System Properties" window open you need to find a button named "Device Manager" and click on it.
It's usually found by clicking on the tab marked "Hardware".
Once you have the Device Manager open, double click on the "Ports (Com & LPT) entry, then double-click on the entry for your COM Port.
Now a new window will open ~ click the tab marked "Port Settings" to see some of the settings ~ for the other settings ya need to click on the button named "Advanced" that is on the Port Settings page.

Thanks in Advance!

It's part of a proactive self help movement I'm starting to prevent me, and others like me, from banging our heads against a wall.

Yeah, pretty much.
I've done some extensive research using Google over the past week, and I've tried
~Multiple operating systems: Windows 98, 98SE, ME, XP Home, XP Pro.
~Various Software: PSXGameEdit, DexPlorer 2.00.902, Dexter.
~Six diffrent computers with various motherboard chipsets, VIA, SIS, nVidia, Intel.

My next step is to try a Serial Port to USB Adapter, and failing that, I'm going to buy a new power brick at radio shack and try that.

If all of the above fails, I'm going to hit up amazon and ebay for a new dex drive.
:P

I think this problem can be easily solved.
Also, I'm not sure if this is the right place!
Plus, it's night time. This is where the Mag becomes
empty and vulnerable for an attack 0.0
For now, I gotta head to bed. I'm sure the other members will help you! TAKE CARE!

dexplorer 2.0 and up are full of bugs and huge problems, like sometimes corrupting memory cards if you pull them out/put them in while the software is running, and not actually copying the data off a memory card when it says it does (yeah, it'll make blank or corrupt gmes). you actually want to get the earliest version of the software possible (I use version 1.0). as impossible as those bugs sound, they're true. I saw them all documented and reported many times through RPG Maker 1's reign at the pavilion and agetec's own forum. so I'm no stranger to giving advice on how to get the damn thing working.

the dex drive is a terrible piece of hardware. everything about it is bad. it's prone to burning out, sometimes memory cards get jammed in there, and every computer I've ever seen using one has a hell of a time figuring out if it's there. sadly, its our only option. unless you want to build your own. which can be done. its actually pretty easy if you have an old junker PS1 laying around to cannibalize.

but lets work with what you have, not with what you don't.

first off, the dex drive is perfectly compatible with every modern version of windows except for vista.

what it comes down to is this: disconnect the dex drive, and then try hooking it up in different ways. try it plugged into the electrical outlet first, then com port, while your computer is on. try that while your computer is off. plug it into the com port first, and then plug it into the electrical outlet. try reversing that. try restarting your computer. open the dex drive up to see if it already burned out for no reason at all.

it's a pain in the ass getting the thing to work right. the information you asked for won't help you. my computer recognized the dex drive right away the first time I connected it, and then sometimes after dusting the tower out and reconnecting it, it can either work instantly or take up to six hours of doing the same crap over and over again before it will work.

thats the info you need to get it to work. banging your head against a wall is REQUIRED for dex drive usage.

have fun.
