I have let Lantis and Regal help me out a while ago. I think it really did help me. I don't know why we don't keep something going like that.. We should put it in the Community Relations Center. I think.. Because where trying to help the community to relate. Ok.. maybe I'm reaching. :P

Let me know what you think of a newbie training program.

Putting something like that in community relations thread is a great idea. We could help with some of the more common questions, or make little FAQS about basics.

I'm not sure this is helping.

I'm personally of the thought that if you need training in how to speak properly, you probably should be getting help from a better place than an internet forum. Really just being part of a forum is a constant training process, as what is and isn't acceptable always has it's gray areas, and beyond the rules you really don't know until you cross the line (well beyond common courtesy, and the golden rule and all that jazz). So I'm not really sure training is needed, I think a helpful message from an admin should be all that's needed, when a line and not a rule has been crossed.

Beyond that I think the best think new people can do is lurk a bit before posting and get a feel of the atmosphere of the forum.

Really the only rules needed are
- Read the rules
- Lurk a bit
- Then post.

After doing these you should have a good idea of what is and isn't acceptable at the forum, and if not then it's likely the admin staff is not doing a good job, or being arbitrary (being completely hypothetical/general here).

The fact that I said a 24 hour time period makes your post irrational.

I guess I need to make it a little more clear. They can only post in there during the 24 hour time interval.

I don't think it's really necessary, we could make a FAQ for basic help, and if they have more specific questions they could just ask them in the appropriate forum. I don't see what kinds of things they would really need help with though.

If there was one, It would probably just point to a collection of FAQs. It's pretty much how everyone learns now a days anyway.

hmm. if there's any help wanted with this, i'd be happy to lend a hand. if it happens. regardless of the irony involved in myself helping newbies to interact socially, not flood, etc. ^___^

... *shrug* as for whether i think we need one? i'm not sure. it'd be a useful precaution at times. applying it in every case possibly wouldn't be such a great idea, methinks. ^^

@oshi - do you say this realising you would probably be on it?

@ttc - the thing about that is that not everyone can do that for some reason.

I don't think there should be any such program. If you're inherently spamacious or whatever, you're not going to change much, even with training or mentorship. I hate leading people by the hand because it comes back to bite you in the ass. You either whip them into shape or you get rid of them. There's no f*cking in between.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't facts, KK, and Beauty Queen total n00bs when they first arrived? And yet they've grown into respectable members, IMO.

^ Agreed.

You all are missing what I'm saying.. We should pare a newbie up with someone who can teach them. Like what Regal and Lantis have done for me.

Oh, sure, but what if we have a shortage of experienced people? Only hole I see besides patience.

I don't think we'd have to hold a noobs hand the entire time..1 mentor could have a few "projects"....it's just adive stuff really, catching things, having someone to go to to ask questions? Am I completely off the mark? I think it's a good idea. And look, some people just don't know how to go about starting in a community. Something like this can help that out. How many people show up and vanish after just a few posts? This could help bring them into the community. And then if they don't adapt we can kick them :P

Yes, we should bring the mentor thing back.

No we should not need to hold any newbies hands. But they should be able to talk to someone for guidance.

You know as a noob (not just to RPGMM but to online forums in general) I figured it all out by listening to feedback, but BOY did I get the feedback.

I think if people are going to come in as a newbie and not know how to post and others are going to get (relatively) easily offended and (relatively) over emotional to a noob's attempt at posting, maybe a mentor program isn't such a bad idea.
