I posted these on the pav, but I thought I'd bring them over here for anyone who likes oriental art.

I've been doing Origami for most of my life, ever since I was really young to now. I can make all kinds of things, animals, shapes, puzzles, buildings, etc. When I was little I used to make origami (especially paper cranes) out of the napkins at restaurants while I waited for my food (I was really impatient).

Anyway, I give a lot of my origami away, or it gets lost, so these pictures are only of a small portion of all the origami I've made. I accidentally had the camera on low settings so I could fit more pictures on it while I was on a trip, so the picture quality is kind of crappy, besides that the pictures don't really do the really 3D ones much justice.

Image

This is the Cicada, it's one of the most simplest, traditional origami pieces, and it's also really easy to fold. I made it while teaching another person how to do Origami. For those of you who don't know, the Cicada is a bug.

Image

Image

Here's the traditional paper crane, although this one is made out of holofoil. I've literally made hundreds of these, and the legend is if you make 1000, you will live a long and happy life.

Image

Image

This is a Hexahedron, named so because it has 6 sides. I don't know why I made two sides blue :\

Image

Image

This is the Irregular Hexadecahedron, It's perhaps one of my favorite peices of origami, only because of it's crazy shape. It looks like coral. And yes, I used staples, and yes, you can use staples in origami, people always asked if I cheated by using staples. I didn't :)

Image

Another really easy one, I made this one also while I was teaching another person. It's a Kabuto, or the samurai helmet. Very traditional.

Image

The X-Cube, this one is a lot more complicated that your typical origami box, for one thing, it has a "X" pattern on it, and also, It's made up of several pices of paper instead of just one.

Image

All of them, with a pencil for seeing how big they are. I'll be sure to post more once I find/make some more :)

Very Nice!
I've never been able to do any origami.
Unless paper airplanes are origami.

They are, actually. Origami means "folding paper" in japanese, and so anytime you fold paper, you are doing origami.

you need to make some Ninja Stars, I mad a ton of those before and as I said before, I threw them at people.

And the 1000 cranes thing reminds me of We <3 Katamari where in one level your goal is to roll up 1000 origami cranes to give to a sick girl in the hospital.

I've made ninja stars, next time I upload some more pictures I'll post one.

We <3 Katamari got the idea of the 1000 cranes from a true story about a girl in Hiroshima who got sick from the radiation and she and her family tried to make 1000 cranes in the hospital so she could live, but either they made the 1000 cranes or they didn't, she died anyway.

Wow...throwing ninja stars at people is evil...i like it ^^

I made some ninja stars, pretty difficult at first but since i already made them over and over again, i'm getting used to it. (Oh, and i can throw it to people now >___>)

Ooh, i like that piramid thing and the crane too. It's so colorful...Oh, BTW what paper are you using there?

Different kinds of paper for each one, but all of it is Origami paper. The Kabuto and Cicada are dyed rice paper, the Crane is holofoil, and the Box, hexahedron, and hexadecahedron are all generic non-rice paper origami paper I bought at a book store.

When I'm bored I sometimes use regular printer paper when I don't have access to the real stuff, but rice paper is the best you can use. It folds well, retains it's shape well, and can be dyed into many different colors/patterns.

I'm sorry, I didn't notice KK's topic, I didn't mean to overshadow it or anything, I just made a topic about origami over at the pav, and then I came over here and made another one without really looking if there already was a topic.

I do plan to add more stuff, but you can merge it with KK's topic if you feel two topics is too much. :)

I haven't really found any really good Origami websites, but you could try the website Regal suggested in KK's topic. Also, I recently found a organization in America that does a lot of Origami, however I was somewhat disapointed with their lackluster site, you can find it here: http://www.origami-usa.org

You can find plenty of books of origami at any bookstore I imagine, or try going to a craft or paper store to buy some origami books. The Origami USA site includes a database of books and kits on origami, so you can look through the shop there and order origami books if your interested :)

Yes, that'll work. Printer paper is a bit better though.

Okay, cause I thought it might be something with if they fold differently or something. Idk about japanese stuff. Why does printer paper work better though? I'm curious.

It's slightly more durable, and it holds the folds better.

Is it one of those things that if you mess up you have to start all over again?
