I'm sure I could, but I'd probably be making more stupid mistakes than if I didn't have them.

The question for me is whether my dad can live without me.

He's almost 80 and I'd rather not put him in a nursing home.

I already live on my own. I certainly don't want them to die, but I think everyone can live without their parents alive, it is just not something that most people prefer.

In some ways it is harder to lose them (attachment, financially, advice, experience, support, etc.) but in some ways it is easier to live without your parents (expectations, responsibities, roleplaying, guilt, etc.)

Well considering I live with them at the moment, yes. But it certainly wouldn't have been easy, but it would have been a really good motivator to get a job earlier . But hopefully soon I'll have a nice cushy job programming, just got to get through a few more interviews.

currently am. i don't think my dad really counts as a parent. but definitly doing well without the mom. if she died i might not notice for a while. *shrug*

I'm in the same boat as Sumi except the mom part. My mother and I aren't that close but thats largely my fault. I am a closed off person for the most part. And like Lantis I have been on my own since I was 18. Although 3 years isn't much of a track record so... I'm not all that sure. But there probably will come a time where I will need someone to fall back on and she won't be there. I really don't like the thought of this, so until I have to- No I Cannot.

i would do anything to gtf away from my parents but alas. living expenses are way overpriced atm if ur not so weathly.

Anyway, back on topic. Everyone can and will live without there parents before they die, lest early death claims you. Which makes me more inclined to think that this thread is more along the lines of wondering how you will cope with it, once the time comes.

That should explain it.

I'm only asking this because well there are people out in the world who can't survive without their parents. This isn't an exception to the mentally ill or physical/mental retardation. There are some grown 28-40 year old who can't live without their parents.

And just how many members on this forum would that apply to, may I ask?
