I was thinking.. It takes a very long time to make a big game for people to play.

How about if we make short story games. And post them here. And we can take turn playing short stories.

A lot of games people may take months making a game before they come out. So why not make something we can all play/see and will only take a week to do?

Let me know your ideas. And if you have a short game post it here. :D

Edit: grammar.

Sounds good. Do you think it will take less then a week to make?

I intend to make several short story games that will probably take a month each. Those will be posted through my development studio, but I do like the idea of a game that only takes a week to make.

Well, if we get a lot of people making short stories. We can ask Ix if he can make a sub forum in the game vault for
these short games. :D

i like that idea. i think that making shorter games would have a lot of appeal to... well, it appeals to me, for one. it'd make it far more likely i do something, too.

i just have this habit of thinking 'oh, making a game, right... right... so it has to be a large game, obv...'

^_^ but yep. this is a good idea. this thread, then, is for talking very loosely about ideas that could make an interesting game, right?

Well this thread is good for talking about what where talking about right now.

Maybe I will add some restrictions...

Its easier when you have limits. It will stop people from going over board.

... iunno about the limits, tbh.

if it's about short game ideas, just let people have them in their own way. honestly? i'm not sure it's our place to be restricting them. ^^

*shrug*

Alright. I was just trying to help. But please try to keep it small. So its fun and easy for the person who's making the game. :D

I like this idea.

Perhaps if the games were made in batches, sort of like the Monthly Art Theme?

An announcement could be made - "Make a Game about Cows form The Planet Aros landing in New Jersey and mating with Dragons to form a super race of Dragon-Cows that are threatening to Ruin the entire Dairy Industry!

Then give a deadline for submissions.

That way all games would be assured of a quick creation process.

This Has Potential!

I think Valk tried that at the Pav, and it failed.
(Rodak's idea, I mean.)

I want us to try to work on something regarding rpgmaker. There are rarely games that come out. Rpgmaker is so wide open to what you can do with it. Just try something and post it. What ever it is.. It will be fun. :D

Oh well...

I guess I can see where such a thing would get repetitive.

Good general concept though.

Maybe a few will give it a try however it ultimately takes form...

Yes give it a try. Better a little of something then a little of nothing. :)

actually... i really do agree.

maybe not exactly in the form it's in, because yeah... even only 3 or 5 short games on the same subject would probably get boring.

but there's something there. like... having a set of topics that are assigned randomly, perhaps you could have a bunch of people make up a topic each and then distribute them at random (or maybe in a 1st come, 1st served style) to anyone prepared to make a game? after that, let the game maker go about interpreting that however he/she sees fit?

any opinions?

I'd like to see the idea of a X-mas type grab bag, where you randomly pick names. You could either have two people randomly matched or I could get the name of one person and a third person could get me, but the point is you get to tell whoever picked you what kind of game you want them to make for you.

Since it will only take a week or so, it should be fun to try to make a gift game for someone else based on what they want in your own unique way.

It is similar to what you are saying Regal the main difference is that you get to know who is making a game for you so at that time you can give them the appropriate topic (i.e. a game based on an inside joke, or involving subject matter they don't particularly like in order to challenge them to expand their horizons).

^ See! awesome idea guys.. I want to get this RPGmaker thing rolling. Almost everyone here on the mag has an RPGmaker. But nothing is being made or its a year away to see it.

I like these ideas. I'm up for anything. :D

@Bo - oh, yeah, that's a nice idea.

the thing is, you'd have no way of knowing whether the person who you were matched with would actually follow through on the idea. that's the main problem with these gift-type things, you know?

the flipside of the coin is to design a method which avoids such disappointments, but doesn't allow the recipient to tailor the game.

... it'd require some method of game assignment through which the person who wants the game would post up what they want. then the person who's making them the game gets it assigned to them, without the recipient even knowing that their game has been chosen. the list of ideas and a tally of which are taken and open would then be kept by some third party.

that way, you don't get to know who's making a game for you.... but you do avoid disappointment.

at the same time, you would get that personal touch. it would all be coming from the game designer. after all, if they share an inside joke with the recipient, why not let it be a real surprise when the recipient is playing through and finds it?

i like the idea, tbh, of the recipient not knowing that kinda thing, of them not even knowing if there will be a game, until it shows up out of the blue.

^_^

... i think also that everyone who wants to recieve a game in this should post up in Poster Profiles. that way, you can get enough about even the newer members who are doing this, so that you at least know what game characters and scenes they like. that kinda thing.

just thinking aloud, really. i like your way of thinking about it, but i wouldn't want this project to disappoint people.

what do you think? ^_^

Are you saying that you did something like this before for X-mas?

The problem that I see is that if I put an idea up without the grab bag, no one ever has to choose to make a gaime for it, so it can be pretty dissapointing if you sit there waiting for someone to finally choose your idea while others are having theirs made.
