It will matter about units sold for this game. RPG Maker is not a popular game to the masses simply because it's title states that you make something. The past makers didn't sell hordes of games, so this one won't be much different. Big games that people are waiting for will sell the system, like FFXIII, or MGS4, or something like that. RPG Maker would not make people go out to buy the system.

That being said, I hope it's on the 360 since I want to get one later on and it has the most games out and a very good collection of games too.

It would be unfortunate and unnecessary to put it out for the PS2.

I highly doubt the Japanese developers are going to want to make it for the 360.

It seems to be much more likely that it will be for the PS3 than the Wii as 1 was for the Playstation and 2 and 3 were for the PS2.

However, since there are games like XP and since the 360 is now online versus PC and since there is a community of gamemaking on the 360 it would be nice to have it on the 360, especially if it had an online aspect, whether it be gameplay or dowloadability, BUT IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! :(

I wouldn't mind it on the PS3 EVENTUALLY but not yet. There is no way I'm buying the PS3 at this time.

What would also be really cool is if it were for the Dual Screen. Can you imagine that! :o

Hopefully if it is for a portable, it won't be the PSP.

Anonymous Bo's prediction: PS3 :(

God, I hope I'm wrong.

If you are making a game that's not going to sell many titles, then it shouldn't matter if it's for a console that has less units. If you have 10000 units on one console and 5000 units of another and plan to only sell a few thousand copies, then which one that sold more really isn't going to matter as much as you make it out to.

I'd be highly surprised if it actually wound up on PS3. Far as I know, PS3 does not have the largest market share, and Enterbrain likes consoles with large market shares (which the PS1 and PS2 had). And market share is important. If 5% of the gaming populace was interested in RPG Maker, then that means the console with 2 million out will sell 100,000 copies while the console with only 1 million out will sell 50,000. So obviously, the console with a larger market share is the better choice. They don't expect to sell many copies, but they do want to sell as many copies as they can.

Along with that, the PS3 I assume is also quite an expensive platform to develop for, since it involves putting so many resources into a single game. Gotta make some money back off those copies.

I hope it keeps the 3d like rpgmaker3 and to have the rest make sprites like rpgmaker1 and the flexibility rpgmaker2. :D

You know, I actually bet it'll be on the ps2. There's already a fan base in the system, and would be the most logical move. It's a system us rpgmakers already can use well and would be a bit safer than choosing a next-gen system.

Or, even better, it'll show up on Wii, as a downloadable game.

actually, it matters a lot. because the console's userbase determines a game's potential audience. the larger the userbase, the larger potential audience the game will have. it's directly proportional.

Maybe... but it really doesn't matter now. The system has already been determined. Though only YOU know...

*sits patiently and waits*

So does this mean that the announcement IS Sunday or that it won't be before Sunday?

In other words might it be a week from Sunday and we still don't know the details?

Wow. This Sunday is-

Palm Sunday
April Fool's Day
BIG RPG Maker News Day!!

Cool.

I'm saying PS3, but I'm hoping that next-gen console was actually misworded to mean this-gen console (and that would mean ps2). :)

Well luckily it can't be an April Fool's joke because the original post itslef is not on April Fool's.

Honestly, I think it's a tad too soon for the new RM to come out... as I previously stated. If it IS some form of April fools, I won't be suprised.

*still votes for PS3*

I hope so much that it comes out for the PS2.

C'mon, the PS3 is out for like, 6 months or less, you're already trying to kill the gosh darn PS2, which by the way, is an excellent console?

As long as the PS2 stands, I'm for it :D

I'm going to be very upset if it's an April Fool's joke. As far as I'm concerned, the only day it's acceptable to make such a joke is on April 1st. I despise when EGM does it in their magazine. It's not funny at all, and unless you all like the idea of forced April Fool's mystery, I suggest Ixzion verify that the announcement is not part of an April Fool's Joke.

Having said that, the only way that I would want to see yet another RPGM for PS2 is if it is as powerful and customizable as RPGM2 and visually impressive and easy to use as RPGM3, otherwise it is a waste with 2, 3, and even 1 (originally for PS1 but playable on PS2) out there.

It's EMG's April issue. It wouldn't make sense to do it in their May issue.
