Sigh.. Well, All I can say is.. At least we know where wrong for doing it.

I hope we can change our ways. And we are looking into making it better. Thats more then what I can say for China. They just don't care over there.

We do it for food. Even if it's "cruel" what the hell else are we supposed to do? Ask the chicken to kill itself for us? Kill us? Food chains exist for a reason. If you want to be a vegan, go ahead, but if we were lower on the food chain, we'd be where the animals are now.

Just to illustrate Kratos' point.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0IJS7hV ... ed&search=

Now, is THAT cruel? You be the judge.

And after you're finished being the judge, just remember that we are NOT special from nature's point of view. We are ALL damn animals. And, we are NOT herbivores.

I agree, But look at the film like this.. When the lions killed the Zebra. They bite into it. Over and over until it bleeds to death. Kinda the same way you slice someones neck.

The battle of the lion and the Zebra only lasts maybe a few min.

The kinda torture I'm talking about is. Like in Duelpros movies for EX- Cutting the birds beaks off and leaving them to starve to death. Braking there legs and leaving them to death for hours.

Its not min. or seconds its "hours"..

Okay, another example out of nature then. But for this one, there's no video.

The Komodo Lizard. It's slow and heavy and not good in any form of direct confrontation. What does it do to hunt then? It bites the prey once, just once. The Komodo Lizard's mouth is so full of vermin, bacteries and other 'nasty stuff' that the bitten animal gets terribly poisoned and sick just after it's bitten.

Now comes the good part. The animal doesn't die right away. It survives for hours, maybe days, sick. The Komodo Lizard does nothing, it just follows the sick prey slowly and at a distance. Eventually, the prey perishes out of sickness. And then the Lizard eats.

Now, wouldn't you call THAT torture? I think it's worse than leaving chickens upside down. It would be like poisoning the chicken and leaving it to die, wouldn't it?

It's part of the freakin' natural cicle. We humans have our own ways to participate in it.

Your also talking about a cold blooded animal.

Yeah, I understand. But we as human know we can
be better then that. And when was the last time we where
starving? We can get food from anywhere almost.

And... AND! Lets not forget. That animal.. those animals are not "mass killing" They hunt one pray. And eat that one pray.

As long as they give the chicken a quick and painless death. Cutting the beaks off and leaving them there for hours is an experience that no human, animal or whatever, should endure.

yeah, ok...

seriously. for a start, we're OMNIVORES. People can and do subsist perfectly happily on vegetarian diets.

secondly, 'its ok cause he just did it' is no kind of rationale for questionable behaviour. especially when the 'he' in question is a dumb animal.

finally, i'd argue that while pretty much everyone who eats fast food is placing their own comfort over any ethics they may care to spout (i don't eat fast food... c'mon.. the cr*p that goes into it is disgusting enough for one thing), it is still the case that there is an ethical issue here.

if you don't like to be hurt and killed, rationally you have to extend that right to other people too. it's a social contract. with animals, the line blurs. you argue that we're all 'damn animals'.

what an oversight. do you see foxes debating the ethics of cruelty? the fact that this conversation exists shows that there is a difference between us and animals. even if it is simply caused by our possibly more sophisticated brains, it IS a difference.

Gnasher, this debate is perpetuated because there are two sides which are both powerful and each convinces a lot of people. So slamming one person's side as ultimately wrong is... iunno...

life ain't that simple =P

as for Darwin, well, he is TOTALLY inapplicable to this situation. not only because he wrote long before in a scientific community that operated under totally different assumptions, but because what he said had nothing to do with unecessary cruelty to animals in the sake of comfort and so as to make even more money. *shrug* besides, the scientific community isn't as sure about Darwin as it used to be, unless all my reading for Philosophy of Science was totally mistaken last month.

also... i'd point out that if you eat fast food at all, you're complicit. you know, whether you want to think about it or not, that they're not exactly happy animals at KFC or McD's. If you eat their food, then you have no grounds whatsoever to rail and complain at how unethical the companies in question may be. There's no way around that simple fact. It's just one of the many little hypocrisies many of us engage in from day to day, but it's worth bearing in mind.

talk about getting my 2 cents' worth.

Alrightey. Sure, we're omnivores, meaning that we can (and should) eat both meat and vegetables to keep a balanced diet. Of course there are means of keeping a good diet only with vegetables (or perhaps only with meat too), but I don't think that's what was meant to be.

Meant to be by whom? By nature. Which means, by us. Our organism.

I'm a follower of the absolute 'wisdom' of nature. In my opinion, it's a perfect system and every part of it has its role and its own ways to subsist, which were perfected over the millenia, and different from every case.

Now, I'm not arguing that it's okay just because animals do it. I'm just raising the question, "what is the difference?". We kill to feed. And that's normal, natural.

Now someone will say, "okay, but the way they kill is wrong!". And now we enter an ethics debate, like you said. And I'm gonna be honest. I have no idea if it's 'wrong' or 'right', because those concepts are totally relative and absolutely not absolute. Like Einstein said himself, "all depends on the point of view". From my point of view here, we're just being a part of the natural cicle and we are killing to feed ourselves.

And we're masskilling because we need to massfeed ourselves.

Just to finish, I don't eat fast food either. Buncha' crap.

If you're too lazy to read Gnasher's post, than heres everything in a nutshell:

"We kill it. We eat it. We make it repopulate. Kill it. Eat it again"

We kill for a purpose: to survive.

Be it plant life or animal life, we do take life to live ourselves.

We aren't "wrong" in surviving. Every creature on this planet eats something else. That's just the way it is.
