It doesn't have a shadow! That must be why it gets scared.

It needs to be afraid of its shadow. Otherwise they don't leave there hole in the ground.

That groundhog is just sitting out there with no shadow. So its not afraid. So that means it will be spring. Well thats how the story is supposed to work.

Although we all know it's not real.

If a groundhog is afraid of it's shadow, it's terrified when Kratos comes walking by, I bet

it sort of makes sense a bit why it's about the shadow.. cus light=heat basically right? and if it's not getting light by that time then it will take a while to get more light and thus a while for the world to warm up... or something.

I'm pretty sure groundhog day is more of a legend that just continued. I don't believe there is really any scientific basis for it. I mean I could be wrong, but it seems with all the complicated weather equipment we have, I believe the weather man would have a slightly more informed opinion than those watching a groundhog. Even a squirrel finds a nut sometimes, or I guess in this case a groundhog finds his shadow.

Also last I checked the length of a day is pretty set. Meaning that each year a certain day will have almost identical sunrise and sunset times, so I don't see any way that would prevent the groundhog from seeing his shadow, other than which side of his hole he comes out on.

Groundhog Day is just another holiday. The only practical start and end of Winter is when people start and stop wearing big coats and/or hats, scarves, gloves, etc... surely?

There's very probably very little point to the holiday other than so everyone can dance around and look happy.

Or sit at home doing nothing, which is the modern version of dancing and looking happy.

Yes, I've heard of Groundhogs day, and I had a good idea of what it was about. I've also seen the movie. But nobody here cares about that day. After all we live in a tropical island, winter for us is still colder than other seasons, but it's still considerably warm comparing it to other countries.

Well, to bad here cause we don't have Winter.But what's the point of not wearing warm clothes and have to feel "happy" all the time?
