I disliked it a lot due to the new battle system(I despised FFXI), and because the story just didn't have the usual Final Fantasy effect on me. It is the first Final Fantasy I did not buy within a month of launch, I only rented it and played for a bit.

The direction the series is going in does not appeal to me anymore, my last enjoyed Final Fantasy was FFX.

I hate bandwagon people who suck up anything Squeenix puts out as well.

I'd buy Tales of the Abyss before I ever touch FFXII again. And I sure as heck bought Twilight Princess ASAP and am quite far in that.

Hweel!!Final Fantasy is great, until i lose respect of the game at Final Fantasy XII.I mean what's with the new battle system? It's just kind of a pain, and the skill learning from the new system just...complicated.

But, apart from that, every other Final Fantasies are just great.

Yeah the new battle system is hard to get use to. I admit. But you know if you play the game for a bit, you kinda get use to it. I do like it a bit better then "non real time battles"
I like the idea to running up to bad guys and stabbing them.
But this is coming from someone who loves Zelda/metroid game play.

As far as the skill learning.. Its just like FFX. However if your not use to that either then yeah, its a pain in the ass.

I'm gonna buy it as soon as I... well, can. Will probably be in a while. Kinda hard to bump into cheap PS2 games around here.

As for making any character take any rolw you want, I'm good with FF5. Thanks.

I have Tactics for GBA and I don't like it... never a big fan of strategy. And by the way, whose idea was it to make job dependant on the item you use? That's just nonsense. IMHO.

Tactics Advance pales in comparison to the PS version. The judge system was just gay. I tried my best to force fights in the judge less areas... which there were VERY few.

Yeah. Where do those judges come from, anyway? Cosmic entities? Blergh.
Long live dual-wielding Black Mages and Summoner Dragoons from FF5 =]

Alright, you win ¬¬
But FF5 was more tactical... you couldn't have everything... in fact, you had to pick just ONE ability... all the other ones were set. Dunno how is it in Tactics.

Lantis let me know what you think of the game. I really don't like the first hour of the game my self. But it does get better. :) Give it a chance and let me know. Let me know when you get it too Gnasher.

Well, I've been playing FFXII for a while, so here's my 2 cents.

I don't have many gripes with the game. One is that I think the fact you have to have a license to equipt an weapon/item/whatever is pretty messed up. It's a freaking sword... put it in your freaking hand and swing it.

Besides that, I found everything wonderful. The battle system, people say, is way too diffrent than what everyone else is use to. I want to point out that it's no diffrent than, lets say, Final Fantasy VII. In the respects that it's turn based on a time bar. The ONLY diffrence is that you can freely walk around instead if standing in formation. (I'm not including the actual mechanics of battle as a 'diffrence'. I think everyone here is smart enough to know I what I mean.)

So with that said, I am really enjoying the battle system. Even though people like Kajak call it the pissing game (because the targetting system looks like a stream of urine). But screw him. :P

Final Fantasy has done something diffrent with the battle system in every single Final Fantasy to date... so people should have expected something diffrent.

The storyline is wonderful. It kind of reminds me of the deep storyline of Final Fantasy Tactics. I find myself highly interested in Rabanastre and how they are coping with the loss of their kind as well as Dalmascar dictating over their future.

I think Square Enix did a fine job... I fine job, indeed.

::edit::

I completely forgot to mention the Gambit System. Freaking awesome... It like the Tales of games... except you get to program what the characters you don't control, exactly what to do.

It's rather like "if" statments in Visual Basic... for dummies!

I was avoiding this but I got mentioned so I'll throw my cent's in.

OK. I got the game when it came out. I've beaten the crap out of it. Here's the review.

License system.... Ummm. Sure. I got the hat. I can't wear the hat. The hat apparently will rape my skull if I don't have a license to use it.

Espers. Woot, Espers are back. Wow!!! That guys is cool. So is that guy. So are all these guys. Wait. Ummmm. Where are all the old summons?

------------

Ok...you just heard my to biggest beefs with the game. The only one that is really a game flaw is the license system...and even though I b*tch about it it's not that bad. And no matter how much I joke about the "pissing" game I actually love the battle system. It's very well planned out. Actually the whole game is period. And you're right Lantis. The gambit system rocks.

The thing is though, FF12 just didn't draw me in like most of the other FFs did. And honestly this is a trend that's been happening since 10. While the games are beautiful and well made, I just don't feel with the characters as much as games before them.

One of the reasons I fear is because of the urge for originality. Take my complaint about the espers to heart. Honestly. Every FF game has certain things in common. Not characters, not places. Things. Summons, items, names. There are all re-occuring things in the FF titles. I think part of the reason why FF12 doesn't feel like an FF to me is because the makers are pushing so much for an original idea that they're dropping familiar little things that keep us all coming back.

That being said, FF12 is a wonderful game. Solid gameplay. Innovative systems. Beautiful graphics. And an honestly wonderful storyline. I reccommend everyone take a chance to play it. But I also encourage you to look at it as another epic game. Just not another epic Final Fantasy game.

So you mean to say that because "Ifrit" was renamed "Balies" you didn't like it as much?

If you ask me, that's being just a tad bit too picky....

*equips a shield*

*doesn't have license for said shield*

*shield rips off arm and bounds away flinging blood all over the forums*

:o
