I figured I would just make one topic for my game, so I don't have to make a topic everytime I have a question on how to do something. Plus I can also talk about my game and what not.

Anyway, I went through some stuff last night, and my demo is pretty sloppy, I agree 100% with everything Draygone said, but there is one big mistake I found that I was lucky he didn't see I suppose. At one point in the demo 2 characters automatically join your party for the dungeon, and you get a choice for the last character, well no matter which character you pick, you will get stuck with the same one, which is Kate. The reason why is because I already had my party set before the dungeon, and forgot to take out the Kate joining event before I got to the choice, but it's been fixed.

I also went through the battles again, they took quite awhile, and were just flat out grinding. So I fixed the battles to go smoother and faster, so that's taken care of for now. The other mistake I found was one of the skills(Kate's Heal) uses HP instead of MP, so you basically have unlimited healing because she can Heal herself for more HP then she loses, so I changed that skill to MP, and also gave the characters more MP in general as opposed to 2-5 MP, it's now in the 8-10 range.

Draygone, I hope you look in here cause I have a couple of things to ask you. As far as the storytellers and stuff, if you could point out a few mistakes to me it would be great, because I went through it last night and didn't really find much, it was late though, so I probably missed them. The only thing I could think of on the sound effects were just maybe they sounded dumb or something? I wanted to have a running sound, so I used the staircase...lol, but other then that I didn't really find anything. What did you mean by message box goofs? Wrong person being indicated talking or something? And on the typos I think I saw an ' in the wrong place, or it just wasn't needed, but that was all.

Again, it was late and I'm sure I missed what you were talking about though, so it would be cool if you could help me out with that.

And if anyone else is still paying attention at this point, I need help with party changing. I want to be able to pick out of 7 characters(not including the main) to join my 4 member party, and I want to be able to do it often. So any help with that would be appreciated.

For the running sound in the Storyteller, you can use the running
sounds which are found under "System" (instead of "Play") sound effects.
Depending on how close together you put them, you can increase or decrease the speed of the running sound.

Oh, and there's a topic over at the Pavilion about the switching characters thing that would be helpful.

Yeah, mostly when the wrong person was indicated or if it wasn't indicating a person at all even though someone was talking. I couldn't tell you specifically what typos I found.

I have a question on that party change thing. Basically what it does is allow my to walk up to whatever I set the button event as, and then change my party from that location right?

So does that mean I have to re-create the whole thing if I want to change the party at a different location?

I'm just curious, is anyone at all interested in my game? I mean most of you are probably currently working on something of your own, I'm just wondering if anyone has any interest in mine. It was great to get feed back from Draygone, it would be cool to hear from more people though. Not asking anyone to play the demo or anything, you can if you want though : )

I'm going to try to finish the game regardless if anyone wants to play it or not, but having other people play it is part of the fun. On average, how many of you actually play released games from people you don't really know? Do you usually wait for previews/reviews before you try things? Well, at the very least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing at least 1 person will play it for a review. Heh, good enough for me.

I've played maybe 10 finished games. Though I haven't played any new finished games in quite a while.

I think you're right in deciding that you'll complete your game regardless of who plays it, but I know what you mean desiring that people do actually play it. The feedback is really an encouragement. I feel exactly like you. Whenever I try to play a game, if I can, I get in touch with the game's creator and at least let him/her know that I'm playing.

I have played probably seven or eight games. Off the top of my head.

for RPG Maker 2, I've tried out:
Tetris
Miniature Mayhem
Dragaaron's RPG game (I forget what it's called right now)
Tabloid (not really a game, more like a mini movie)

For RPG Maker 3, I've played:
Series 1: Destiny Beckons - see comments in the game forum
A Series Aside - see comments in the game forum
Series 4: Teaser (playing it now)
Whispers in the Woods
and a couple of others too.

That's cool. You can't really expect people to play your game just like that, especially when you have no presence in the community. You'll most likely get people to play your games if you've already proven to make good games, but I realize this is just my first. I'm not expecting it to be the end all be all game of Rpgm, but at the same time I still want people to play it and like it.

I guess I just need to get a good review score, that way people will check it out, at least I hope. I'm getting way ahead of myself anyway, I still have quite a bit to go before it's finished. Thanks for replying guys.

Taking a break for awhile. Have no idea when I'll start to work on it again though. I'd say I'm at least 50% done by now, but I need a break. That is if anyone cares...see you guys after awhile.

Hey Yusuke,

Taking a break from creation can be a good thing. You can come back and approach your game from a fresh perspective after taking a little breather. My creation time has dragged on a bit because, like you, I need to take a break every now and then too. Cool. May it be a fruitful break for you. Take care.

Well, I think I'm just about ready to continue working on my game. I've had quite enough time off from it now, played a few games and enjoyed the break from Rpg maker. I had jury duty yesterday...so that kind of sucked, but I'm done with it now. I'm currently playing through Final Fantasy Tactics(I've lost count how many times I've played it, 10+ easily)doing a 2 character/2 job challange. I plan on working on my game as I play through Tactics. With any luck, the game should be done and ready for release next month.

I have a quick question on skills. Is there anyway to change the effect points of them as the game goes on? Because my skills seem to be doing the same damage even after level ups. If I remember right, based on the formula for it, damage should be increasing as your stats do, but I'm not sure.

I honestly don't know. At first I didn't think so but then it doesn't seem to make sense not to.

Are you sure that your character's class's MAG is increasing? Because unlike other RPG Makers (I think) MAG influences the strength of the class's magic, not INT.

INT is used in character battles against characters of the same class as a party member. INT is a set amount and the only way you can change it (I think) is through an event or by equipping an accessory that changes it. When you change it, you modify it to a new number, not add or subtract to it from the old number.

Well most of my skills are based on HP instead of MP. So I'm not sure if MAG affects it or not, either way, all the stats that can increase, are increasing at level ups for my characters. Just not very much I guess, I've kept my stats low because I figured it would be easier to work with enemy stats that way.

You know, the instruction book (page 24) says that MAG is "the character's magic power. It influences the strength of a character's magic spell's affect."

I always assumed that when it said, "magic", it meant "magic" or "skills", in other words, I thought it meant all special attacks (skills and magic) as opposed to regular attacks (from equipped weapons).

Since you are doing mostly skills, I guess maybe the instruction book LITERALLY means that MAG is only applicable to "magic." If this is the case, there doesn't seem to be any parameter to increase your ability to do "skills" because STR is apparently for equipped weapon attacks and MAG is apparently for "magic" only.

The only other thing you can do is increase Luck (through an event or accessory, but not through leveling up as it is a set value paramater) but this is going to increase the likelyhood of scoring critical hits for all types of attacks (equppped weapon, magic and skills). I don't think their is a way to control "skills" alone other than to create multiple versions of the same skill with increasing hit point values obtained at different levels.

I see, well if that's the case it would probably be best to just switch everything over to mp use instead. Thanks.

Alright, I changed all the skills to magic, and fiddled with stats some and I'm liking it alot more now. So thanks for responding about that Bo, it helped. As I take a look at what I have and what's left to do, there's still quite a bit of work left. The only dungeon I have left to do is the final one, but I have tons of story-tellers to do which is becoming the most draining thing. I find myself spending hours on them, and just finishing one takes quite a bit out of me. I think I spent about 3 hours on 208 keys...does anyone else spend that much time on one story-teller? Ah well, hopefully it will all be worth it in the end, I just hope the story is good enough to keep people playing.

Glad to help.

208 keys! That's a pretty big storyteller. I've never made one remotely that big. I would guess that would take a couple hours. I'm sure it looks awesome though.

BTW, I like the Yuri avatar. :)
