Thinking as I always do, I was thinking about the hypocrisy of "always tell the truth." We've heard it all the time as kids. Tell the truth. And the truth is supposed to be good.

However, if you killed someone by accident, and told the truth, you'd be sent to prison just the same.

You still get punished for telling the truth. Are we really so surprised that people lie? There is little to gain from telling the truth and often a substantial amount of incentive to lie.

Would you tell the truth about something that could land you in deep trouble if people knew about it? Or would you lie?

Depends if I thought I could get away with something. I admit, I most always tell the truth about things in work and most other places. But if I know I can get away with it and I already am in deep stuff, I lie to get out.

An example would be....let's say I accidently broke a customer's CD. The mark that destroyed it was so minor most couldn't notice it. So, I lied to the customer and told them it couldn't be fixed. What happened afterwards? They bought the same game and paid 15 bucks for it. So, technically I made 15 bucks by lying.

But I would never dream of doing something like stealing, because the consquences are too gret. Getting fired and having that in your resume could be painful for life.

I suppose in the end, it really depends on the situation. I've told the truth and felt bad about it afterwards, and lied and felt bad afterwards. So, for me, it depends.

I always lie about farting though. :evil

Oboy.. this topic is gonna hurt my brain..

Telling the truth can be very bad..
And lieing all the time is also very bad..

Telling the truth to someone you love I think is something really good. But its also good to lie if your tring to make them feel good. Like.. O you so sexy..
Mean while there not. :P But it sounds good. :)

You should always lie to your family. Because they are the ones, who worry too much. I know when I was out drinking, or my first kiss. I would never tell my mom. But some how she always knew. She would snoop, through my things when I was at school.
I was a bad girl. My mom knew it. And I was always beat red when she finds my stashes. :P

See honesty can be bad.... Because now your all thinking...
TMFI! (too much clucking info.) :lol

Not if you live around people who love twisting the truth and making you look like a bad guy. Sometimes just telling the truth can get you killed.

If you killed someone in an accident, you would go to jail all the same - but not for telling the truth. You would go to jail for killing someone in the first place.

Screw the truth, Lie your ass off, it's more appealing to the masses... and the unmasses. *shrug*

Well if you snitch on someone who robbed someone, sells drugs, or do anything illegal they will get hurt. Jesus is proof of that. Besides that there's risk like that in your job(tell something bad and someone's fired), military, and life. Think about it lies can actually save some people's life and have. How many people really want to know what someone is really doing, some of the sh!t they do can be totally outrageous.

Well, if I told the truth, the bastards better not land me in jail, if I was in the situation. I'd kill them too. Then no one would know it was me because all eyewitnesses would be dead.

But seeing as that I'm really not that type of person, I say telling the truth and lying have their benefits, if you play them right, and without intent to harm anyone. White lies are good, and the truth in most situations is good. Just depends on what type of situation you're in.

That is true, its all about the situation. White lies can help you, just like the truth can condemn you or persecute you.

Honesty is the best policy. I for one, can't lie without feeling horrible.

So what if its someone's job on the line and they just made a mistake. Do you tell the truth or do you lie about it. It depends on the person, I'm not a snitch.

Yes, I can agree with this one. My ex-boyfriend.. Tom, was his name. I dated him for a year, back in 94. I really, really liked him alot. I begain to worry because he was making less and less time for me. He told me that he was going to be busy for a while. And that I could not see him for 2 weeks.

Well, I got very lonely. So I started seeing this other guy. We kissed and stuff. And when Tom was able to see me again I was all happy. I stoped seeing that other guy.

However this big cloud of guilt was hanging over my head. I can't be fully happy with Tom because I knew I was hiding something from him. This was really the first big thing that I ever hid from someone.. Well other then lieing to my mom. So I thought to my self.. If Tom really loves me he would understand. And then we can be happy again...

Well I was wrong. I cryed for weeks. I could not tell him that I sorry enough.

At that point I could not tell that.. 1. That I was sorry that I cheated on him. 2. That I was sorry that told him the truth. I just wanted him to understand. :/

Who knows.... He might also have been looking for a reaon to brake up with me. And I just handed it to him. Because most people who are crazy about eachother. Can't stop seeing eachother. And Tom always made up reasons why he could not see me.
