I haven't noticed the "slowness" of which you speak. It's been working just fine for me... not one quom. It seem like a genuinly great browser.

Meh, I'm sure I'll find something her or later... but as of now Opera is da shiz.

^ yeah that was what I did for so long... I just FINALLY got off IE after getting this new computer.... maybe i'm TRYING to be more geeky or something. Eek.

Opera is relatively slow, I have noticed that point. But Netscape is FAR worse. As long as we arn't using Netscape. *looks at Ixzion* Opera is stable though, and web complient. The thing that I really dislike FireFox for is that the dev team for it go off about how IE is not web standard and it sucks so everyone should use FireFox and tell their friends to as well. But FireFox isn't exactly up to web standards either. They don't even have proper documentation about that on their site... Opera Does though. They are a bunch of hypocritical lame asses. They arn't promoting web standards they are promoting themselves. Opera is all about web standards and compatibility where FireFox just uses that against IE though they don't have any base to do so.

Just think of it as becoming more computer literate :).

As for web standards compliance, yeah Firefox isn't fully compliant I will admit, but it is a lot more compliant than IE (meaning it supports a much larger subset of the standards). Also IE is not very safe, since it takes them months to fix a security hole, and like I said it is tied in very heavily with your OS, making those secutiry holes and even bigger deal. As for Opera I never noticed it being that slow, and is pretty much 100% standards compliant. So while it doesn't have as many cool extensions, Firefox extensions are not all created equal, and so some of them do have bugs, so not really a selling point on that one (though being able to zoom in on images is quite handy). Plus on those broswers, hitting delete history actually means delete history to the best of my knowledge, and being a privacy for the sake of privacy advocate myself, that is important (though there are ways to get IE to do it, all involve rebooting). Interesting to also not that IE, like many of Microsofts current products, was not originally made by them. It was made by another company they bought up.

Also ActiveX is quite possible one of the worst ideas ever, and a source of a lot of IEs problems.

So it's not just about webstandards, though that will lead to less trouble for both developer and consumer later on, hopefully. The problem being that these standards have been around for a while, but were never enforced, so you ended up with a lot of buggy code, and pages.

You know, opera can really be quite enjoyable.
Ave Maria, for instance, is one of my favourite pieces, and some of the 4th movement in Beethoven's 9th had interesting vocalizations.
(fun word, by the way)

I do, and so should every other webmaster. It has made my web development life a living hell to try to comply to standards, and then have IE spit in my face essentially, by totally screwing up the layout. See everything started with laying out things in table tags, which not only is less efficient than a div tag (meaning longer load times for you guys), but also not as good. Every other programming language has pretty strict conventions you must adhere to, to even get the thing to run. This results in better, less buggy code to the end user, and a better chance at having cross platform things.

So yeah IE makes me angry, since everything will look fine in both Firefox and Opera, then I open it in IE, and go WTF happened. And not supporting PNGs is just terrible. It's the only image format you can have translucency in, so no glass overlay buttons until that becomes an option in all browsers.

So yeah, IE screwing up the internet, one webpage at a time. Not to mention IE also has a lot of tags that just don't work in other broswers, since they don't care about standards at all (though to be fair so do the other browsers, I think browsers should just focus on features and making browsing easier, not what special tags they can have that will only display in their browser).

So being able to comply to standards means one cares enough to write good code. Every page I make now complies to XHTML 1.1, and have valid style sheets. And I don't care anymore if they look bad in IE, if IE won't care enough to comply to the agreed upon standards, like Opera and Firefox do (Opera more so), I just make sure they're viewable. The web should look the same no matter what browser you use, but thanks to IE it doesn't (well really thanks to browsers "fixing" buggy code, which shouldn't even display in the first place). But now that there is an agreed upon standard for it all, I think everyone should follow it. If you don't do things like that at a programming company, you get fired. So why should the internet be any different.

[/programmer rant]

As for normal opera, never got into it. I'm not big into classical music.

I'm trying to figure out how does "Ave Maria" sound on english.

Dunno if it exists on other languages, but I'm pretty sure that's plain portuguese.

thetruecoolness... FTW!

Web compliancy is a major issue, even for end users who feel fine with IE. I am a big fan of PNGs... I use them quite often when image editing. Oh, and lets not even talk about the new 64 bit formatted web sites... Has anyone even TRIED the 64 bit IE? STAB MY EYES OUT... NOW!

Okay, I'm better...

Well, to each their own.

I think Coolness best described the pro's and con's to IE via other browsers so I'm not going to repeat what has already been said.

If you windows update though... I'm pretty sure you'll find a few new features that will annoy the piss out of you though...

(click here to activate this control)... bugger!

tab browsing is conveniant. The only reason people don't like is is because they froget that when the click the close window button, it closes everything, not just your current tab. But if you just learn to close the tabs.... I don't see why tab browsing is so bad.
