its tricky to say, cause some games with good features are crippled by bad ones, and almost all of the qualities on the list are important.

but yeah, its gotta be the story for me. on an rpgm site, i doubt many will say otherwise.

I agree with Regal. Story's the most important thing. By far.

That depends on the genre of the game. If rpg well story and battle system.

Games fun?

I thought the point was all the generic skimpily clad (potentially nutlessly male) game-bunnies.
What is this fun?

I really like a good story, but there are some ocasion's where I can forgive a bad one if the battle system is good enough.

Well that seems to be more related to rpgs. I think for overall games, it has to come down the gameplay. I mean story didn't matter much when it came to Contra, Pacman, ect.

If the gameplay is fun to work with and makes you want to play it over and over again, then that is the key to fun.

Same here. A game is fun if you want to keep playing it for hours on end. It's hard saying specifically what makes a game fun.

Well how about an online rpg that takes one complete year to beat. You beat the story, then after months it adds on to the story and on and on.

I'm asking this because I know lots of people who enjoy maxing out there gold. Getting every last item, Need to kill everything using magic vs a sward. If the graffics suck they don't want to even buy the game. There are also games with all story like star trek for the PC. And hardly no game play. So I was hoping to get a bigger rise out of the poll. Maybe I should have word it diffrently. But I don't know if that would have helped the poll.?

I know story is not important for some games. But I'm still a sucker for them. Since I was little, I always checked the booklet to read the story, the introduction. Even if it's a lame escuse to make X character go to Y kingdom and rescue the pretty damsel in distress. I (almost) always need to know why.
But I've always been kind of weird :lol

Big deal. I used to always read the entire manual. Now, I pretty much ignore the manual unless I need to look something up, like what a poorly-named/explained menu option is supposed to do (although it usually fails to clarify things).

It depends on the genre.

I usually like big, exapnsive worlds. Zelda: OoT blew me away when I walked out into Hyrule Field. The game felt giant, like there were no limits to what could happen.

But then again, I play Mischief Makers so much, which is a very short but very fun 2d game.

Basically, a good game is one that's fun to play.

I mostly always liked the "hunt" I love tools. Anything that I can use. Keys to open doors. Candles for light. Looking for the gold. Funny I say this. I have a hard time finding my own shoes. :P

Aww, where is the gameplay option. So I picked the closest one, the battles. Now I won't say that story is completely unimportant, but we are talking about games here. If I wanted interactive fiction I would go buy a DVD or something, or an interactive fiction made with story scape or something (and those are cool to read and interact with). But for a game I want the fun to come with the gameplay, and in the case of an RPG that is typically in the battles and minigames. Yeah I might play through a game for the story, but then it's more like a movie with this really long and annoying pauses between the movie. Where as if it had good gameplay the points in between the movie make it fun, and the movie is just a great addition to an already fun game. So while the story of a game may be what keeps your interest, it should be the gameplay that your intererest originated.

I would rather play a game with no real story but fun gameplay (Kung Fu, pretty much all nintendo games that were fun), than one with boring gameplay, and a great story. I would enjoy that much better with just the story.
