Im hoping someone can make changes around here.

There was a big fight between my self and other names
I will keep (privet.) We are all on good terms now. But
I would like this to be addressed.

(Someone) stated by spaming my thread "O I made a thread
like that 1 year ago." (That person) had my thread locked and
(that persons) was bumped. I even gave (that person) credit in my title."trying to be nice." It got locked anyway.

Ok so now (Another person) made a thread.
Again, (The person who locked my thread) said, "What are you skimming
old threads? That was enoff to boil my blood. Now Im thinking
this person is going to lock up every thread we are trying to do.

That person, expects "newbies" to go through thousands of old threads
just to see if theres no copys made?

Let me remind you too. I was posting in the "Amy castle" thread.
(That person) had a thread in the "chat" threads. So (that person) wants newbies
to go through not only all the threads in the"Amy Castle" But
the whole sight as well" -wtf?

Then! then get this!!!! I honer (that persons) request and I find and old
thread to talk in. "SMART, Im thinking" Then next thing
I know, Owolf gets mad... NO BUMPING OLD THREADS.
Ok so lets see now..... You cant copy OLD threads, And
you cant bump OLD threads.....WTF? What can you do?
Not post at all? That seems like the only way.

Im very mad at the lay out of this system. They should
lock old threads and make room for new ones.

This is not music we are talking about here. These ideas
are not "copy writed" It should be ok to copy an old idea
to make it new again.

Otherwise I know what will happen.
Ix is going to have a whole sight full of locked pages.

Someone please help. And be nice. Im nice. So no yelling
at me please. I just want everyone to be happy and make
this fun and easy for everyone.

^ even still! there are lost of cool junk from way back when.
Hell I love 70 music. Is it bad that I still want to play it?

Also this does not stop the part of people being mad
for copying old threads.

We "should" be aloud to copy old threads. Why?
Because if all the old ones are locked. Then no one
will have a choice but to make a new copy.

You bumped a topic from the "Front Page and Announcements" forum from last year.

That forum, specifically, is for "NEWS, UPDATES, and ANNOUNCEMENTS."
The bumping of announcement from last year just to say that you laughed at one of the posts was unnecessary.

Also, things have been running smoothly with the current system for almost 5 years. We cannot go back and lock thousands of topics for no reason.

First off, I had no idea that posting to an old thread
would bump it to the top. I thought once its old and at
the bottem it stays there. I ment no harm in adding
what I thought Reki said was funny. After all. Reki was
making a joke about what Ix was saying anyway.

Mr. Owolf. You know, Im still a newbie. Even with posting
past 100. threads. What would, "stupid little me" know about
how this sight runs? How am I supost to know that old threads
auto go to the top? Im sorry if this sight is not dummy proof.
Because of my lack of knowing how things work around here.

Love your avvy by the way. I must say this. I guess you can't
teach an old "wolf" new tricks. Your kinda stuck on your old ways
around here. Your being closed mined to new ideas. Id like you
to work with me on this. Is there any room for new ideas in your
world Mr. wolf? Can you give a little suport?

5 years ago Mr. wolf. How was anyone supost to think this far
ahead with problems. Do you rember the silly story about computers
braking down all over the world once it becaome year "2000"
No one even gave it much thought way back when. Then everyone
was like. OMG 2000 is coming! Kinda too late to fix a problem
when its right on top of you. But there was no reason to fear.
Everything worked out fine.

Ok, if you really feel to keep things the way they are with the
No bump thing. Thats fine. But Something has to give Mr.wolf.
Should I just tell the people who get mad for making copys of
old threads to go F them selves? You tell me Mr. wolf. What
is the right answer.

First of all, I was trying to help remedy the situation by explaining OUR thought process behind the matter. I was in no way trying to paint you as "stupid," as your post implies. I know how it is to be a newbie. When I came to the mag, I was the biggest n00b there had ever been. :p

Addressing the situation though; of course I am not stuck on old ways. We are constantly trying new ideas--new features to help make the Mag the best RPG Maker site around. However, I, and the rest of the staff, see the matter of bumping old threads vs. creating new ones a very miniscule matter. My own philosophy is, if there is an interesting topic in the chat forums, or the Spam Palace, or even Creativty++ that you want to CONTINUE discussion on, go ahead and bump it. However, I do not approve of bumping old threads just to put in your "two cents" and then just leaving it to once again die away.

We leave them unlocked on that premise--there is a possibility that discussion may again arise from threads of the past--new occourances may make old ideas again relevent.

However, there are quite a few threads that should NOT be bumped. These threads do not lend themselves to further discussion, and so they die. All the staff members at the mag are busy with constant upgrades to how we run things, and we don't often have time to go around locking or purging these threads. A solution to this could be to put in an automatic system that locks threads after a set length of time without a post. We could not do that, however, without locking those threads that COULD lead to further discussion one day. Instead, we rely on our members to bump only those threads which will have continued discussion, otherwise the forums would be crowded with posts from 2004 while the newer posts would quickly sink into obscurity.

When staff members see bumped posts and feel that they will not lend themselves to further conversation, they will say something about it.

Such was the case with me seeing your bump in the picture thread. I did not mean to come across as mean, or insulting, if that is the way you took it...and I admit I could have been more clear in my meaning...but I hope you see my point.

Yes, Its hard to tell how someone is comming across.
Maybe people should use the :) :( :o More often.

I understand you clearly. Your a good man Mr.wolf. :tup
Sorry if I upset you.

So things brings me to my last question... :\

Why not keep all the good old sh*t that you feel is important.
And flush out all the non-sence?

I don't mean to sound hurtful. But it kinda almost seems
like everyone is too lazy to just well, Clean house :)

I have a hard time with my own husband for being a "packrat" :P
If something is old. Trash it. If something is still good and
can be bumped. Then keep it. But why fight over,
"You stole my idea" And then other peoples feelings get
hurt like mine. When Ix locks my thread and bumps theres.
Why should mine get locked? Theres pooped out on them.
I might have better luck.

This might seem like a small problem to a big sight runer like
your self. But when peoples feelings are getting hurt. Well
I think thats a big problem.

^ I like that idea. When can this happen?

So if something good was locked then just start new.
You can even copy and paste all the old crap onto a new
one.

Heres another idea.
Quote:
Im sure your staff will love me for this idea. (not!) :lol
Why not get your Reviewers and Previewers to do
your house cleaning? Lets face it. At anyjob place the
guys at the bottem of the line get the sh*t - ie jobs
anyway. :P

I understand your concerns, and thank you for your input;

As far as us "cleaning house," There are only so many admins capable of pruning/locking/deleting/editing threads, and THOUSANDS of possible threads to exam for locking purposes. To check each thread to see if it needs to be locked would be a tremendous chore, taking away from site-side upkeep. The MAIN purpose of the RPG Maker Magazine site is just that: A site devoted to RPG Maker. While we love the community built here, our main charge is to support RPG Maker, by constantly uploading the new games and demos we recieve, our reviewers and previewers ALWAYS have new assignments that they are supposed to work on. Ix and I have to keep up the main Domain.

That leaves Reki, the head of forums, the blunt of the forum work. To sort through all the posts would be a HUGE undertaking for our ENTIRE staff, and much more for just one person.

While you do make a good point about locking all threads and just copy&pasting to new versions of them, that is not a viable option for one reason.

Since we moved away from the EZBoard structure, the entire forum system of the mag has been hosted on the Mag's own server. Every bit of information posted to the forums--every Thread...post...every word is added to the Mag's server. As the amount of information on the server grows, so too does the ammount of money we have to pay every month for upkeep of the server. That is why we cannot afford (literally) to keep re-making old threads.

Thanks again for your concern, and if you have any more questions or comments, let me know.

:o It costs money to re-make threads?

I find that Odd. When it comes to sights
I just thought you pay for the size of the web
page that you want.

Kinda like renting space at a mall or flee market.

Honestly I thought by getting rid of crapy threads
it would save you money. Because less threads =
less room. Less room, less space thats being rented.

So its a money problem...

Okie wolf. You stumped me. :skeptical
I was always the type of person to be full of ideas.
But being a poor person my self. There is no choice.

Letting you know now, if someone is giving me a problem
about copying there ideas. Im just going to let you
or Reki handle it.

I tried., I tired my best to think this one out. :\

In the meantime, while it might've not helped much with the "Continue the story" deal, you can use the Search option near the top of the page to search in a specific area of the forums or the entire forums all at once. If the search turns up nothing, go ahead with the new topic; if people complain tha there is indeed an old topic, just tell them the search didn't turn up anything, and it won't be a big deal. And as said, if there's an old topic, make sure you contribute something to the discussion, or even ask an informative question related to the discussion or what someone said if needed.

And, um, ":)" . You know, to avoid confusion about this post.

Okay so who actually helps maintain the board? I mean who takes care of the money issues? And if available, who would help with donations to keep a good site running? Maybe a small paypal donation link... :)

Currently, Ix fronts the server bill. (I try to help when I can.)
And truthfully, I am not sure about donations. You may need to PM Ix for that info.

We currently don't need donations at this time. However, I'll keep you updated if that changes. :p
