Well, since we recently got a wireless router, it's awesome and all... I'm just a bit peeved that I can't listen to my winamp radio stations or use DC++ anymore.

Really peeved. Cause I don't know how to configure the ports on the router. I don't really even know how to get to the settings to fix it.

Here is the model of the router: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 1826245223

Any help? I figure most of you are fortunate enough not to have to have a router, though. :P

What would you do without me? Bleh, Netgear.

In your browser, you need to hit up:

http://www.routerlogin.com

username: admin
password: password

Then under the Advanced heading on the left, select "Port Forwarding".

On those sites, they should list the ports they use to broadcast information. Put those numbers in under that section, and save them.

Should work.

That's about all you need for DC++.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... eaming.htm

.. and that'll take care of your winamp radio problem.

Alright, I have the static IP address set, I think.

Other than that, still having trouble finding out how to get to the netgear edit settings thing. It was installed on my sister's computer, so perhaps I need to do it on there?

You should be able to get into the router from any computer on your network using the ip "192.168.0.1" for a web address in internet explorer. You just won't be able to access anything without the user/password, which portforward should tell you the defaults for.

Okay, update. I set the static IP for my connection, now, do I need a static IP on the router settings too?

I also added the dc++ and winamp exceptions in port forwarding- BUT. It would not accept DC++1 as an acceptable name because of the +'s. I suppose this should still be okay.

I entered the correct ports, and I'm guessing the server I need to put for the customized ports is my IP address? I think.

Winamp and DC++ are still nil for now.

I can't put the zero in, it says it's not a valid LAN IP. Well, the 0 that is by itself, not the 101 one.

I think it's impossible.:p

Do this next:

Go to:

Start >> Run
type in "cmd"
then, when the box appears, type in "ipconfig"

Use the IP Address there for that Server IP Address. We're just experimenting here.

I'm not sure if netgear ports are set up like linksys ports are, but on my wireless G router, I use IP 192.168.1.1 generic passwords... The other thing is the computer you are on transmitting wirelessly? or still hardwired in?

Routers will choose IP addresses in sequence when connecting wirelessly. Like taking a number at the local deli. Each computer is standing in line awaiting their signal ping. Just out of curiosity, you have Windows xp svc pack 2? there is an internal PC based firewall setting that has an exceptions list. make sure winamp is checked there. Control Panel, Network Settings, Change Windows Firewall Settings, Exceptions Tab.
