Well...a Sonic rpg kinda defeats the purpose of sonic doesn't it? I mean Speed is the draw sonic has. It requires reflexes, instincts-and turn-based just doesn't cut it in my oppinion. I mean sure, you could make almost anything in one way or another with RM2-its just a matter of whether or not it'll be a good game. And I couldn't see sonic being to entertaining...but thats just me.

That's the beauty of RPGMaker 2.

You don't have to make RPGs with it.

Jugem made a virtually 100% faithful TETRIS reproduction for RPGMaker 2 and it is nearly indistinguishable from the original!

I think it is possibly the single most impressive thing done with RPGMaker 2, so don't expect to pick it up and just make something like that, but Sonic should be absolutely possible (I never played it but have seen commercials!).

You would need to spend a lot of time getting good with the system first because this would be a truly hoopy effort, but I see no reason why not.

The runny spinny effect could be made in the VFX Editor. Possibly even the character. If I could make a perfectly passable Starship Enterprise (see the Videogamedrome Screenshots thread) this should, indeed, be possible.

Go for it!

As for your question "is sonic a good game to try to make?" that depends on whether you like it. If you hate Sonic, it would be an incredibly stupid game to try and make.

If you like an idea, any idea, it is great to try and make it happen!

Peace.

True Rodak, never fear-I am not denouncing the programing abilities of RM2-I am saying that it can't compare to the real thing. I mean, there is not getting through a level in 27 seconds-there is no speed boosts and shortcuts. First off retro sonic was 2d. Too many things I wouldn't want to work out...But if you want to do it then RM2 is definitely the one to work on BDAKID-so if you think you can then prove me wrong.

Actually I think it could be done with RM1 as well, didn't some make an acid-trip bunny for this site?

hey, how do you do that anyway? :?

Timers are actually fairly easy to create. I use them quite a bit in my game. I could post the scripts and events needed if its requested.

Nash's "greatest burden broken" topic fixes this up.

First off retro sonic was 2d.
There have been several RPG Maker 2 2D platformers.

How do you do what? I don't understand the specifics of the question.

Actually, it's not so much the deal with timers, it's the goal of getting through a stage in a super-fast speed. Stages in the Sonic games could take a few minutes or less than 30 seconds depending on how fast you went and how much exploration you took. And one could not very well mimic the speed, accuracy, and timing that a Sonic game requires.

I don't quite understand how this would cause a problem. Are you referring to the problems with precision jumping? As for the timer itself, RPG Maker 2 allows you use the wait command down to a single frame if you want to so a few seconds isn't anything to worry about. As for the speed, it's easy to increase that as long as your character is in a vehicle.
