I almost aquired a manga of my own some weeks ago (December-ish). Didn't know there were so many manga available. Didn't now which ones to choose. It wound up being a decision between all three books of G Gundam (my favorite anime so far) or one or two books of Dragonball. Unfortunately, not only did they not have the first book of Dragonball (earliest was the third), but I couldn't decide before I had to leave. Next time though, whenver that may be, I'll be getting it.

I did use to get comics when I was kid, though, at the local drug store, which closed down some years ago. Some of the comics I wound up getting include:

Super Mario Bros. (the one I remember most involving a "smart bomb")

Rescue Rangers (got it in time for the last two issues, a 2-parter involving some swamp beast or something; it seemed like it took forever for part 2 to come out)

Mickey Mouse (only the 3-part treasure episode involving a sunken treasure under a whirlpool; part 3 took forever to come out)

Darkwing Duck (the 2-part TV "Darkly Dawns the Duck" comic-ized into a 4-part "Brawl in the Family")

Captain Planet (first two issues; another comic version of a TV show)

Scrooge (the one I remember the most being a 2-parter involving Scrooge's new money bin that Magica put a spell on)

Disney's Adventures magazines (I think the last I got ended on a Darkwing Duck cliffhanger in which Megavolt stole Gizmo Duck's engergy at the end)

And I vaguely remember getting or seeing some comic involving a cow head from an alternate dimension.

I also at one point had all five issues of Nintendo Power that had the Super Metroid comic, and I had the graphic novel-ized book of NP's Super Mario Adventures comic. I would up letting a friend borrow SMA in school, and didn't take it back after learning that the kid's dog peed on it. I have the first four parts of the Super Metroid comic. The last part was probably trashed like a lot of my Nintendo Power books.

Actually, that's pretty much what happened to all my comics. Trashed. Usually due to being ripped up as they sat in one of my pile-of-toys closets. The Darkwing Duck one in particular, I did a little of my own "editing" on the first issue after seeing the 2-part Darkly Dawns the Duck on Disney Afternoon. The TV serialized version ommitted a chase scene showing Darkwing after a group of crooks before tossing them to the judge in the police station. And so, I cut the two pages involving that scene out of the comic, to make them better fit with the TV show, and often read some of my comics using a white sheet of paper with a square cut out to act as a TV screen. Wasn't until later when I found out the show had a 1-hour primier, which was available on video, that had that chase scene intact. Luckily, I still own it and the other three Darkwing Duck videos. With no editing.

Yeah, I was pretty terrible with my toys and stuff when I was a kid. Epsecially if it was a model anything. So um, don't let me near any Transformer toys.:)

What's the difference?

But to answer the question...

I managed a comics shop for 15 years before I came to my senses and went back to school.

So yeah, I guess I collect comics.

Let's see...

If you need things to seek out:

Vaughn Bode is GOD! He fancied himself The Cartoon Messiah and even took the first couple steps toward establishing a religion around comics for tax purposes, but died tragically (and quite possibly happily) (erotic asphyxiation) at the height of his career in the early 1970s.

He died just about 30 years ago (omigawsh I'm old... I remember where I was when I heard...) and they still reprint his work.

The Man is the single best Comic Book EVER.

It is a one issue black and white story about a caveman and his stick, and their friend erg.

Cheech Wizard is the Bode comic Ralph Bakshi BLEEPING STOLE for Wizards. He not only stole Cheech for that (Cheech Wizard is an Underground Comix Icon!!), he stole the plot from Vaughn's Cobalt 60 story.

Image

Apart from Bode, there is always Jack, Still The King, Kirby, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Steve Ditko, Any Golden Age Horror, Any Silver Age Monster Stuff, and don't forget The Tick!

The original Black and White, Ben Edlund, run of The Tick was the single best selling book in my store.

I sold more of that than X-Men or anything else at all.

The only title ever to outsell The Tick was that stupid Todd McFarlane Presents Todd McFarlane's Spiderman #1 by Todd McFarlane with all the variants and bagged variants and idiots who had to have them all.

The performance of The Tick was probably due to my keeping reading copies of the reprints on hand and a reading area with that and other stock (it was separate and no store stock was allowed in there). Look for The Tick Omnibus reprints of this great run.

I could babble comix nonsense for years, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Peace.

Manga is to Anime as Comics is to Cartoons. It's Japan vs America.

Manga rocks. One of my favorite series.... Chobits
It's one of those "true to the nature of manga" type formats.
You know, have to read the book backwards...
(newbies... takes some getting use too)

I own only two mangas at the moment. Price on em went down a little, so I started to collect Bleach.

Well, I own the first volumes of DNAngel(randomly picked for cover art, and was something I hadn't seen before) and Bleach. :)

I collect Cowboy Beebop, Ruroni Kenshin, and Legal Drug....the last one is a recent find that I enjoy.

Cowboy Beebop you should all know and love, and if you don't then get to know and love it-Now.

Ruroni kenshin is great, except the series had over 75 episodes...lots of manga to read.

hmm... currently I have lone's DiGi Charat mangas >.< gotta finish those and give em back ...

I have the first two ID_Entity mangas- they were cheap at a convention so i was like hey why not.
First Soul to Seol manga and the first Alichino manga ... somehow all of that suddenly seems very obscure...

I read the star wars four part comic of the third movie when it was in 7-11 before we went and saw the movie and stuff aaaand I <3 Neil Gaiman - have the entire sandman collection on my computer though someday i would like to get the real comics. I don't really count on my computer so much because it is so easy to download stuff - but i have a whole bunch of Kaori Yuki mangas - little 1 and 2 volume ones most of them quite gory *fear* and i have all million and six volumes of Love Hina which i have not read yet but it was my first manga ever that my friend had and it was funny so yay for reading..
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is pretty good.. i <3 his house... yeah..
ok im done.

WAIT NO IM NOT!
BERSERK! Its on my computer (of course) but either way its uber good .. havn't read it yet... the first one isn't finished downloading and since it was liscenced nobody touches it anymore but i found it really easy then apparantly that was in spanish and now this torrent has 99.9% and nobody with the last piece ... crap...

To my understanding, some of the episodes were filler episodes, much like DBZ's Garlic Jr. Saga.

I saw that manga there, though. I'm pretty sure I saw over 15 books, though some of them might have been multiple copies.

Yeah, Kenshin has alot of side-stories. Alot of traveling around japan that is irrelevant to the story, but cool nonetheless. And most of those aren't in the manga form...so not quite so stressing on me wallet.

^Dude, I love Kenshin. The anime anyway. I need to get a hold of the manga now... oh well, money comes and goes... unless you're me. Then it just........... goes.

Another anime that made a good manga is Neo Genisis Evangelian.

Actually a lot of cases, the manga came first. Watch the credits of some anime. If it says anywhere something like "Based on the manga by /whomever/", then the manga came first.

Money is quite the elusive quarry....but otherwise I'd be up-to-date...I just love it.
Kenshin I believe is (I've never been bothered enough to check) one that had the show come first....as was Beebop (second favorite anime). Thankfully though Beebop only has 26 episodes and I was able to procure all of those without sucking my wallet dry, unlike the case with the vast amount of Kenshin dvds....*desires the whole collection for free*
