I looked around this site's resources but could not find if there was an equivalent of this here, so I shall link to The RPGMaker Pavilion's article.

http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/sho ... php?t=1155

That tels how to use the max drive, but more importantly it tells how not to use it.

I hope it helps.

Peace.

Yeah, we don't have an equivalent here as of yet. I should write one eventually.

But check our vault for lots of games. :D

Yes, it matters.

Open the zipped folder and drag the icon to your desktop, then to the max drive.

If the file is not in ".max" format it may need to be converted.

The same site has a PS2 save converter. Many people use older file transfer thingys and they all save in different formats.

The converter is in their "Tools" section if you need it.

I hope that does it.

Peace.

Well, guess what, I could use your help on that one too. I think it works like you load it as it is then save it as you want it to be, but I load it (undr propr file type an all that) and save disappears...so help me one more time and we'll go from there, please :P .

I just converted an old file to confirm the process, and it works fine.

You "load .xps" (or other format)

Wait for the funny data to show up in the window, then

Save ".max"

The only thing of which I can think is that maybe you did not give it time to load the data or it loaded incorrectly.

If the problem persists, try downloading a new copy of either the program, the game, or both.

Good Luck with it.

Peace.

Not long.

If you are stillhaving trouble, try another game as test.

It is possible you are using a corrupt file.

Or download the program again and start over.

Good luck.

Peace.

Now, I don't know how succesful Derek's exploits turned out to be, but as I just recently acquired a Maxdrive for the first time I have no real experience with them at all-and I'll just capitalize on a thread already being in existence.

I also had trouble with the converter but that is besides the issue I am inquiring on. As far as the Max-drive itself goes I downloaded and unzipped Second To Last Fantasy. I downloaded this one specifically because I made sure it was already in .max format and I wouldn't have to convert anything. Now I followed the instructions (and they are simple enough) and I placed the unzipped file in my maxdrive. Now I took the maxdrive to my ps2 and uploaded it with the program disk and it still read nothing on the drive...so that is my dilemma, am I screwing it up somehow or is my maxdrive the equivalent of horse dung?

The max Drive is the equivalent of horse dung!

Horse dung makes great fertilizer and wonderful things grow from it, bu it can be messy.

Are you sure you are "Uncrushing" the file and not just trying to copy or move it?

Wait...

I reread your post and you say you did not see a file on the drive, so that implies you did not get that far.

OK, is the drive locked? There is a little padlock picture on a slider switch that has caused problems for folks in the past. It's easy to accidentally "write protect" the drive.

When you say "Now I took the maxdrive to my ps2 and uploaded it with the program disk and it still read nothing on the drive..." what do you mean by Uploaded? Did the file show up on the drive while the drive was on the PC and not show on the PS2? That would be odd. Try (safely) removing the drive from the PC and replacing it. Is the file still there?

Other than that I do not know...

If none of that helps, go to the step by step of what you did and we might be able to correct it.

I hope that helped.

Peace.

When I look through 'Drive E:' I see it. But when I use the PC software I don't. And then when I use the PS2 software I don't see it either. I'll try the locking thing eventually but I'm not gonna be home for acouple days so thanx.

Hmmm

I have never needed to put a CD in my 'puter to use my max drive.

What operating system are you using?

In mine (windows XP) all I do is plug in the drive to my PC, open My Computer and a removable drive icon appears. I open that and drag the unzipped icon to the drive window.

I then go back to my 'puter, eject the drive and right click on the funny little thing that appeared in the row of funny little things near the clock in the lower right of the screen. It brings up the Safely Remove Jhunque bit. I stop the drive and remove it.

Then I need the max drive disc in the PS2. I put the drive and disc in the PS2, let it boot, then I go to My Devices in the Max Menu, select max drive, and enter it. Then choose the file (I think this is where you say it does not appear), and select Uncrush to mem card X.

Is that what you did?

This is tough long distance...

Good luck.

Peace.

Well, I solved my maxdrive woes effectively-and found the fault to be with me. I succesfully downloaded Second To Last Fantasy (and was of course thoroughly amused by ODs work....).

The problem I have found to be rooted in either the Centurion file or my download of the converter. I found Centurion to be XMEM, and try load it as such. It doesn't do that though, I click and it ignores my request to load and no little blurb thing shows. I've downloaded Centurion several times (I know the converter CAN load at least max files as I loaded STL just to be sure it was max) and it won't load. So the fault is in either my converter download or the Centurion file. Thank you for attempting to come to my aid.

And could someone who has either downloaded Centurion or plans to tell me whether or not it offers simillar troubles to you. If it turns out to present no such trials to anyone else, I shall try to re-download the converter.

Sorry to take so long to get to this one.

I found myself wanting to look at a finished RPGM3 game to see how others balance stats and remembered this thread.

The problem with the Centurion file appears to be the lack of a file extension! It was carelessly renamed (I do not mean that abusively... I have done this myself!) and just needs to be re-renamed with a file extension. I tried the .xmem extension, but it turns out to be a .max file after all!

Just rename it moo.max (or centurion.max or whatever.max : just add ".max" to the end!!).

That should do it.

I just did this and am about to see how the stats work in this effort (assuming a quick test play shows balanced battles).

I guess I should let the creator know to rename the file and upload again.

Well... I guess I'll go do that thing.

Peace.

Thank you for that. I got it downloaded and now understand how this blasted device works.

I downloaded Centurion and found that the level progression was shaky at best.

Though, in truth, alot of this view could have been induced by RM3's HORRIBLE battle system. It takes at least 5 minutes to defeat the simplest of foes. And while some battles are intriguing (bosses, powerful enemies), when an enemy is a little weaker than you (1-2 levels typically) they start doing 1s instead of continually presenting challenges. Thus you are stuck in a disgustingly Slow battle system, without a real pupose.

I gained valuable experience from just playing this game, such as:

Never use anything higher than Low concentration of enemies on a field, otherwise every 2-20 feet you WILL fight someone, and SLOWLY. I put 2 hrs into the game and spent most of that time trying to cross small gaps in the fields riddled with agrivating battles.

Good Advice it is.
