That is the conservative veiw point.
It can be summed up in three statments
1) "How can I best make my world serve me?"

2) "If you didn't make it, make room for those who will"

3) "If it doesn't affect me or my beleifs, why should I care? (but still have a uninformed oppinion about it in reserve so as to appear like I know what the hell I'm talking about, and thus look make my self look more impressive, if it comes up)"

an example of that kind of thinking:

1 house prices go up

2 people mortgage their houses to gain money, for...
that new car
a conservatory
a holiday
WHATEVER.

3 this pushes prices of everything up further

4 goverment does duck-all to stop this

5 more people making money on ridiculous, market-screwing mortgages

6 people re-elect Labour government, because they're happy, because they've got more money...

7 students live on the streets

8 those without a house, eg, migrant doctors, etc, live on streets

9 economy collapses and factories, already under pressure from foreign competition, fold.

10 stupid Labour-voting bastards lose their jobs,

11 mortgage owners are unable to pay the vast sums of money banks demand from their huge mortgages.

12 everyone is ducked.

great innit?

For the record, cutting your wrists or any other body parts doesn't solve anything, it just shows selfishness and maybe a bit of emo whore. :nope

Anyways, Niles, Ohio sucks. You know why? Because to be honest, this town is run by Italians... mostly bigoted ones. My mom's friends kids may be put into a different school because they look black, and have been hazed over it- to the point where their mom is worried that if they ask someone to prom, the dad will say no because they look dark. They aren't african american, either. Poor little hispanic kids got called some nice slander names in 5TH GRADE... it makes me sick... and we all know where kids get those words from- parents. Especially pisses me off since I'm half-hispanic, and my little sister is too... hence why I'd even mention that.

Plus, it's a very small town. If you don't believe in God or go to church every Sunday you're "weird".

We have a shopping mall, and a movie theater. That's about it. Nothing to do around here.

I choose to stay online to mentally escape here. All my friends have moved from the area I live in, mostly hilrods infest part of the neighborhood. Everyone is nosy. We have drug deals going on down the street or so from me in a really run down section of my side of town. My part isn't the worst, at least the trees are pretty.

But we pretty much live in a swamp. When the rains came last year, the new middle school that was built near the Mahoning River(which goes into the Ohio River), was flooded up to the locker locks, and they were ruined. I'm suprised the school is still okay.

It's very humid here, a lot. A lot a lot. It's either cold or extremely hot usually, except for the fall months.

You have to stop playing video games in the summer for periods of hours sometimes so you don't fry something in a storm.

The best part about here is that we get cable and high speed internet.
And BW3. And the cheap theater($1.50 on Tuesdays, woo!).And Hollywood Video(the only rental store with decent games). Ooh, and my girlfriend.

yup, i like living in canada. it is a lot more relaxed.
in theory staff, the way you put it makes bush seem the better candidate. if most people hate him and he still gets elected then most people that hate him are too stupid to go vote therefore mostly stupid people hate bush and mostly smart people like him which makes it seem like he must be the better candidate which we can all safely assumes is prolly not true.

you seem to assume that smart people want a president who will look out for them.
NOPE!
smart people want to be left alone so they can make their middle-class money and retire to florida.
Bush enables them to do this, so they vote him
Very smart people, of whom there are few, tend to vote elsewhere but don't get recognised. This is called democracy, and is probably better than the alternatives.
Bush could spend his entire term with his finger up his ass, and get re-elected if he doesn't piss off the majority.
MAJORITIES ARE SELFISH
AAAAAAAAAAARGh.

still, at least i don't live in Ohio

good point, i should learn not to assume that people vote president for the good of the world. it seems logical to assume that people would rather the world not blow up and die but hey, who knows!

Regal's Theory of
Majority Selfishness

People don't give a duck about the world ending, unless one of two extenuating clauses are present:

1) It's gonna happen in their lifetime

2) It's 'popular' ie: they read about it in
their tabloid or in some rag of a
magazine

(i'm not usually this full of hate, i'm just trying to blow off some steam before my exams)

So, everyone (or nearly everyone) goes to church, and they're all still racist and idiots? There's something wrong with that picture.

I live in a small town and thats not weird. You dont actually need a church to serve god and it takes alot more than believing in god.

Now a days there are preachers that use the church for sexual, finanacial and sometimes a polictical gain. There is alot of money that people are willing to give to the preacher.

Ok. I tried reading all of your posts. I couldn't as you all are caustically long-winded in this topic. I got to Staffy's third post and said 'damn'. So I'm going to answer the question now.

I've lived in 3 different countries during my life: U.S.A., G.B., and Australia. Aussies rule. Everyone move to australia.

Great Britain is right up there with China and Tokyo...and it doesn't have the lights. I liked living in London...but my memories somewhat bias the facts.

The U.S. is, it IS true, the free-man's paradise. Granted there aren't many 1st world countries that aren't taking this view nowadays, but NO other country takes as FULL of an advantage on it as AMERICANS. The only thing unduly restricted in the US of A is sex.

Live here is (like Canada I expect) largely dependant upon the region you live in. For we aren't as large as our neighboors (size wise), but we are fairly large.

If you live in NYC it reminds me alot of London, only with annoying accents instead of cool ones. It has around 10 million people, so it is almost like its own nation in some regards. It has multitudes of mini-cultures and all the like.

If you live in Missouri, things are different to astounding degrees. We farm and hope for something interesting to occur. All we have is Kansas City, St. Louis and Columbia (best town in the world). Action occurs in those towns and you can expect to live without hillbillies but anywhere else you'd better watch the bush-hating talk.

But we are more...flamboyant? Pretentious (except for the french, the height of conceit)? than the rest of the world.

And to understand how Bush one you have to understand the 'Gray Areas' that Staffy mentioned.

Republicans are typically 45+.

Democrats are typically less than 28.

This shift in perspective can be easily (if not wholely fairly) explained by the concern of money. Conservatives(republicans) are economy driven (generally).
Liberals are free-rights driven (generally).

When you're older you start to worry about the cash.

And (as was mentioned) bush was only elected once. The other time he cheated the system and GOT AWAY WITH IT.

Another factor is the under-educated rednecks in america who all seem to be able to bury their heads in the sand while simultaneously drinking beer and screaming "Kill The Damn Nigers!!" while thinking they're talking about the Middle east.

Rant Concluded: Australia is the Shiz.

I can guess that the president will probably extend his term for presidency over the peoples will or use more family members. I haven't been to Australia before but I might some day.

Its unlike anything else, its a huge nation with only 20 million people, and everyones laid back-like all 'no worries mate'. Your just chilling. (actually it sounds something like Canada....are you guys up there as laid back as they say?).

Personally, I give up on politics-I'm resigned to whatever the hell they wanna do. Its people like me that make the democratic party a failure, but I really lost all initiative for it when....Oh, I never had any....thats odd I coulda sworn I cared.

*apathy consumes me hollisticly*
*I can't escape*

I wouldn't say we are that laid back. It seems to go about half and half there are people who really don't care they are just living. Then there are all kind of people rabidly concerned about "issues" but they still seem laid back because the issues barely exist in the first place and there isn't much anyone can do about it anyway other than be concered... and write letters. Canadians are GREAT at passively opposing things. Writing letters is one thing that many Canadian comedians make fun of Canada for. "Oh, how terrible! I can't believe they are thinking of doing THAT in parliment. THAT'S IT! I'm going to write them a LETTER!"

a friend of mine who went to New Zealand (sp?) relatively recently said on returning that canadian people are polite but people down under are actually friendly. not just polite but actually friendly towards you.

so in general no we are not as laid back as austrailia but we pretend to be... some people are some arn't it all depends who you talk to i guess.

Come to think of it... I don't think I could be happy anywhere in this general area one day. Canada... too similar to the US. Maybe someday France or some other crazy place for me. That'd be insane.

I don't know though, I just think a majority of Americans need to suck it up and deal with this country and stick through with it to get it back to the way it was instead of jumping ship.

Earth will all die eventually anyways.
