so. as i was lying in my bed staring at my ceiling tryin to fall asleep but couldnt. i started to think about all the crap thats happened in the past. and not just personal problems. Thinkin about our world and how well its holding up. from break out of miniwar in middle east to buncha hurricanes to earthquakes ( haha almost said quacks) u would have to think thats theres a problem with our dear mother earth for all these things to be happening.

well. what could happen now in the future?

i was talkin to one of my fellow workers at work during our break that one time he went to las vegas or something...somethign soemthing and like...talked to this....psycic.....hell i cant spell the word... anyway. u know what imean. anyway. he talked to this person and like..the person kinda told him a gfew things...like..how he would hurt his back the next couple days from doing something. and it happened. another thing that he told me was that there would be a devestating earthquake in L.A that would totally destroy it sometime soon. now that could be a lil exagerating. but u never know right? that kinda intrigued me...

ok so now. we know that all these hurricanes that have been hitting down south could be the problem of our most familiar topic of "pollution" and how global warming is getting worse. now that the hurricane season is almost over, how will the winter effect us now? that im not to sure of.

ok so moving on to more futuristic ways...

we see in movies and such on how technology has WAY over done itself, like look at...uhm... gundam wing. of course this is just a cartoon, but the looks of the mobile suits and how there used for war and flying around in space and shootin stuff etc etc makes u think, "now how come they havent made one of those in real life?" considering this is just a fantasy. u would have to think of the way these things work. but of course in the show they dont exactly explain HOW it was made or how much it cost to make it (of course here it would take ALOT) or how it works and what this button do or what this gizmo does. they just kinda... go with the flow on the whole story... er so what im getting at. how can they think of something like that and not actually...make it real life? now if it was the mobile suit it would take a great extent of technology and TIME, money as i said, and the effects it would do to our world... mainly the abuse of using it and other countries makin there own and the hole sheebang.

and another thing. why havent they started to think of thing like...space colonies? now thats interesting. cuz our world cant hold out that long... considering how predictions of a big ass asteroid hitting the earth obliterating it or a "death cloud" that will dissolve anything in its way or some other weird natural disaster. we have to like....SURVIVE SOMEHOW. or other planets...that have air. (STARWARS thinkin....)

anyway. oh. back to my technolgy based discussion. FLOATING CARS. we see that in like... cartoons and other movies or whatnot. like of course thats an obvious thing to happen in the future. but if it happened sooner it would like...not kill our atmosphere. with these like...smart cars or electronic do hickey cars that they're makin kinda makes me want to like...laugh. cuz of the design of course >_>

but anyway...i feel like im not makin sense on this whole thing..rambling and rambling. but u get what i mean?

whats ur aspect of what the future holds for us? as something serious of course.

I was kinda thinking about that as well. Mother Nature has put up with a lot of crap we've thrown at it. How much longer this'll last, I don't know.

I figure (this is assuming you believe in Darwin's theory), we will evolve to survive. Someday, if the ozone layer is gone perhaps we'll evolve to survive ultraviolet rays. Maybe we will be able to adapt to envorimental changes. And if we can't, we'll all die. Simple as that.

Yeah, the number of these natural disasters have been more numerous than I ever remember them being.

I don't doubt the fact that the earth has certainly been affected a great deal since before humans started creating civilizations about 10,000 years ago. But I don't think that war would effect the earth directly, since it's doing very little to the ecosystem.

*psychic ;)

I do believe that psychics exist, but they don't just disclose it publically. If they did, the government would be all over them.

Anyway, I think that guy hurt his back because he was trying to prevent a back injury. And "doing something" is pretty vague. I think true psychics could tell you with pinpoint accuracy anything.

Since L.A. is on a major fault line, something like that could possibly happen. However, California has numerous earthquakes. That's just a guess.

As far as I know, winter will either stay the same, or the ice caps will eventually melt, screwing us horribly.

But I don't know much more.

I believe that anything that can be dreamed or thought about, can be made. It's a matter of "how". Look at spaceships. Those were just fantasies that movie makers created, but then people decided that they were going to make them real. And we now have spaceships.

I agree with you fully that it takes a great amount of technology, money, and most importantly, time to make things like this. It could potentially take 20 years for a breakthrough needed for a hover car or whatever to materialize.

I also agree that the technology would be abused horribly by the governments of the world, because they are all assholes.

I've also heard that a black hole is sucking our galaxy into itself.

But really, presently, our level of space travel isn't perfected yet. We're basically at the same level of spaceship made in the late 60s because everyone got tired of space flights and turned money away from it.

The next big place to colonize would be the moon. It's close and we already know there's no horrible space monsters there. :p

But really, asteroids are hitting us all the time. And a big one wouldn't destroy the world, I think.

Unfortunately for us, there doesn't seem to be another planet in this galaxy with air. Earth happened to luck out and be placed in a narrow band that allows life to grow. Any closer, we would have burned up. Further, we would have frozen to death. How could we be placed so perfectly? (I say God did it, but that's not the belief of everyone).

Well, the designs are laughable, but cleaning up the air would be great. Have you ever smelled country air? Entirely different from living in a city, that's for sure. It feels cleaner.

I think the future will hold only what we make. It's going to take people caring about each other enough to keep it safe, clean, and happy. And it will take people to remain ever-vigilant for those who want to use their power to send us into despair. I know this is uncharismatically sappy, but I think that there's good in everyone, even if I refuse to acknowledge it sometimes.

Good topic, Miss C.

those are called meteorites... they burn up as they enter the atmosphere. depending on its size will matter on how they hit the earth. asteriods are the size of like...well... a possible size of half a state or larger :P. if u seen soem of those movies where they're like...saying an asteriod the size of...texas or this state or this country will hit the earth.

and true...an asteriod cant actually take out the earth... again depending on the size. but it can bring us back to the days when the dinosaurs were extinct and brought the whole world into an burnig balls of fire or soemthing rather then into a deep iceage for a long time.

Oops, yeah. Like, in movies you mention. Truth be told, I never looked at those movies. But yeah, that would be disasterous.

I do debate whether or not such an asteroid would send us back to the time period of which you speak. Civilization has come a long way since then, and would probably be better suited to handling a crisis like that.

For those of us who don't live in Canada, what does Abby mean? I know Saskatchewan, but not Abby.

I only know about the air because my grandmother is from there, and we visit her house from time to time.

I probably can come up with a few things that could possibly happen June 26 2010, 10:46am-February 6 2036 3:54am. But I'm not going to get into that well I think we will be tooken ovber by computers. As humans we become more dependable on computers to do our work and to do this and that. I honestly do believe this planet will soon die but not for another hundred years or so due to our laziness. We might get hit by a meteor or something unknown. There is probably a planet with air in which we can breathe, as some of you know the goverment don't tell you everything. Even thought its a big sugar coated lie.

Its warmer down here, thats kinda unsual since its cold or freezing during fall and winter. If the winter is warm then there is something wrong.

Whee, some stuff to reply to!

The "Big One" will happen in 2010. No joke.

Flying cars won't happen anytime soon, if ever. I mean, can you imagine how fun Air Traffic Control would be with hundreds and thousands of little flying vehicles going up and down and all around?

Colonizing other planets or our moon won't likely happen soon either. It would take years to get a colony ready to be occupied, not to mention super-expensive.

Global warming is happening. Have you heard what's happening to the permafrost in, I froget the country, maybe Greenland? Well, it's not so permanent any more. It's melting. Ocean levels are rising slowly. And around here, I can't say for certain if summer has gotten warmer, but 80-degree weather in the beginning of November is NOT normal. And I distincly remember there being more snow around when I was younger. There wasn't a single snow day last year, when before it was pretty much guarenteed that you got one or two. I remember one year we used up all our snow days. We recently had a thunderstorm, too. Speaking of which, Alaska has had more frequent thundrstorms over the years. And what else could explain the more frequent hurricanes?
Quote:

It makes sense. Look at how long our galaxy's supposeldy been around. Odds are, a black hole had to appear sometime.

If an asteroid or comet hit us, we'd be royally skrewed. Sure, we'd probably survive the initial destruction, but how well do you think the world would be able to recover from a hit like that? There'd be decaying land all over the place.

Move to Manitoba and say there's no global warming. f*ck.

Anyway, I didn't read the whole post. I will tommorow, and I'm sure I'll have a host of ridiculous opinions about it.

well, first of for Draygone, i am pretty sure that land does not decay... it is land for christ's sake.

and seriously Abbotsford is definitly getting colder, last winter we were going out at night and we were able to sit on the sidewalk without TOTALLY freezing our asses off but this winter we can barely walk outside for 10 minutes before we cannot feel our fingers. maybe we are getting softer or something, i still think it is a colder year. the summer never really did get very hot.

but since everyone else has taken their ideas from movies i have decided to link to a certain flash video that i personally believe in and i am sure some of you may be able to guess which one THE END OF THE WORLD

so yeah, seems to me that the most likely outcome of earth is that we will blow ourselves up before anything too terrible can happen. lots of people want to do stuff to fix the ozone and fix the environment but mother nature does that herself with the hurricanes and the random other natural disasters, its a self sustaining type of thing. so as they say If it's not Baroque, don't fix it!

but really we are seriously going to blow ourselves up in the end anyway.

i figure whatever happens in the future i will burn those bridges when i get there. overall the world won't really change too much in our lifetimes. the future is not here yet thus it is generally ambiguious! (sp?) there are the parts that are beyond our control that are interesting to wonder about but i enjoy more the parts that we can make with our own actions.... just my thoughts...

either way we will definitly blow ourselves up! BOOM!

We will make a mistake before we will try blowing ourseleves up. But It is true that the world will end with fire. I don't know how but it will.

some people seem almost to expect humanity to last forever. of course, no one person, civilisation or species will last forever.
and theres no guarding against the inevitable. maybe the bird flu will wipe us out. maybe the next virus will, or the next. maybe a big lump of rock is just gonna fall down out of the sky, and such things are indeed capable of turning this planet into a hell.
you do realise that oxygen is a flammable gas, right? some theories (believable ones) argue that meteors can actually cause the air to catch alight. Which would do more than set us back a little.
Or maybe we'll all just kill each other with thermonuclear power. The thing you may not have thought of, is that once you lose so many people, you can't actually produce resources for those that are left. We farm using mass production methods that require many people in many places, just to produce basic foods. Lose even a part of this system and you lose your food. Any survivors of a nuclear holocaust would be dead in around 3 generations, at most. I personally wouldn't give them 10 years.

global warming is actually a naturally occurring phenomenon. geologially speaking, we're just out of the ice age, and according to ice cores from the poles, we're actually about due a temperature change. we might just be speeding things up. the consequences are, however, the same. flooding, etc.

there are so many other ways we might die. we have reached the 3rd stage of any population or civilisation. The peak. the next stage is inevitably sharp decline.

and of course, the reason is that there are just too many of us. We plunder and take more than our share, we commit little acts of greed and laziness, and fail to realise how these mount up. I have no sympathy for this race, or of course myself.

if i die, i die. no need to worry about it really, its inevitable anyway.

incidentally, ixz, it could just be luck that we're here at all. Asking how we could be so perfectly placed in the universe is like wondering at the changes in the human race that led to the development of tools, the internet, and this forum. its not an act of god, or even some kind of predictable fate, it just happened...

taizon says fire. Id say darkness, and quiet. everyone ends that way sooner or later.

if you bothered to read this, well done. i could hardly stand to write it, line after line of depressing bile. probably true, all the same...

Yeah, I knew not everyone would agree with throwing God in there, but I'm a christian and that's what I tend to agree with.

I've also noticed that online, while there are many christians in the world, that most of the people I meet are either agnostics or atheists. I personally don't have a problem with either, as they don't affect me in the slightest. I just think it's odd.
