So far the most complimentary summary I've seen has been "Mediocre."

We may well have a candidate for one of the worst games of all time here. Certainly one of the biggest disappointments.

Worst game of all time? Doubt it. I'm sure the game's at least playable.

I didn't follow this game at all during its long journey to completion. I haven't really read the reviews either.
Are they basing in on Gameplay alone, or is the whole "so much money and so many years later and this is what we got" thing bringing it down further than it should?

People on Wii U have been experiencing problems with the game freezing and needing a reset, or having to completely unplug the system and replugging it back in. Some people haven't even gotten their game codes (or they won't work). So it's release has been awful, and allegedly Inafune has said that releasing it as it is is better than nothing.

Okay, I've played about an hour of the game and gotten into it.

Graphically, the game is serviceable. The original demo was much better, but this works.

The gameplay is solid. The main mechanic, of dashing into enemies to actually beat them, seems to work great. Beck controls very well. I've made it to one boss, Mighty No. 6, and the boss fight is pretty interesting.

The music so far is fantastic. Yamane putting in da work.

The bottom line from my time with the game is that it's fun. It's not an instant classic, though. It sucks, though, because I can see so many places that with some extra polish, this could have been a very special game.

So far, flawed, but fun.

I think the real problem here is that Inafune was GIVEN four million dollars to make a game... for free. And in the amount of time that well goes over something you could brush off as delays, releases a game that is mediocre at best (and that's assuming you aren't playing on windows 10 or on the Wii U, where the game doesn't work at all).

But what really is the icing on the cake is Inafune's "meh" stance he's taking when he so casually says it's better than nothing. And while the opinion of the developer shouldn't determine the score of the game, It's very disappointing to see all the time and money that went into this getting swept under the rug so callously. Also, it doesn't matter if the gameplay was flawless or not, if the game can quite literally brick one of the platforms it was created for, I'd score it pretty damn low myself.

It's definitely a case of, "The damage has been done," and there is pretty much no way to salvage any positive reputation the whole project may have had left at this point.

On the bright side, Yooka-Laylee had a positive reception at E3.

I'm optimistic for that, Shantae 4, and Bloodstained. It'll honestly be pretty difficult for any of them to do worse/have more problems than MN9.

And if they are not THAT good, the develope may say that at least it's better than MN9. :)

I don't know why we're complaining. It's "not perfect, but it's better than nothing."

I'm sure those with bricked Wii U's completely agree.

There are plenty of Mighty No. 9 failure videos out there. I chose that one.

Gonna update my thoughts on the game.

I am having fun with this. I'm playing the Steam version.

I have 2 hours under my belt and I have finally beaten my first Mighty No, which felt tough but fair like a true MM game.

I think a lot of people giving this game a hard time are just bandwagoning. This is not Sonic 4-levels of sh*t here. The game's controls are pretty nice and the dash mechanic gives a good flavor to the gameplay that hasn't gotten tired yet.

The way bosses work is pretty interesting. You have to shoot to weaken them, then dash into them within a certain amount of time or they regain their HP. I kind of find that a bit unfair, but that just convinced me to hold off on the "last few shots" until I'm within range. Each of the bosses have a different amount of HP before their bar flashes to be hit, so you have to be on the ball or you will suffer. Their attack patterns also change on the last volleys, which is great.

On the flip side, this could have really used some more visual polish. It's sometimes hard to see the enemies as they clash a bit with the background and stuff. There are also some technical glitches that happen on the ice stage when you try to hop on the ice blocks a bit, too.

If I had to review it at this point in time, I'd have to go with 2.5/5. Had they really been on their grind, this would have been actually amazing.
