Volume 3, Part One (8/29/06)

There comes a time...when the things you do in life come back to bite you in the ass. That time came last week, I'm afraid. If you recall, before I deleted my previous updates, which I have saved somewhere, I wrote a song back in mid-December about the Alphas, immediately after they did their gesture. Come some 8 months later, during my training for the Connection Leader group, I receive some unexpected visitors: the two inducted Alphas, and two ladies from Delta Sigma Theta. They wanted answers, and they wanted them know. 4 against one. I am not afraid to admit; I was scared. They basically said everything in my song was a lie...they said I put them on blast by distributing the CD, and they want nothing to do me, really.

Seems that one of the Deltas in the room, yes, I did give a CD to her because I thought I trusted her, sold me out. Now, I must do a 530-word news article on this NPHC group and how it benefits Lynchburg College, and I must time, time is getting thin. So, you probably want to know how I acted in this situation. I tried to play it cool, but for some damn reason, my leg could not stop shaking. Fear is a b*tch. They had this upper, verbal hand. I called my mom two ours later, and she and my cousin came to see how I was doing. I decided not to sleep at the college, and stayed with my mom and cousin for the night.

The next day, my cousin and I made an appointment to meet with the people again. To sum it up, it's pretty much settled, I am agreeing to do this article, and I am not going to further associate myself with the Alphas or the Deltas. Yes, I know I am cutting some things out, but I am not really in a mood to clarify further. This whole thing has really made me consider the direction of my still incomplete album, which spawns tracks directed at not only the Alphas but the girlfriend of the Alpha President. So, let's just say going back to college has been pretty awkward and low, but I'll try to hang in there. Shoot, haven't I typed worse...

Part 2 (9/4/06)

An all-nighter, folks. Bonanza did his first all-nighter this semester trying to type up a stupid NPHC article for the Critograph to appease the Alphas and Deltas. Basically, with all the information the internet afforded me, I slowly typed my way through a semi-good, 500 word summary on how the NPHC was founded, with little detail showing how it was actually beneficial to the college. I broke a little rule, folks. They had wanted a hard copy of the article, but with time slimming down, and my deadline inching closer (I finished the article at 7 a.m, it was due at 9 a.m.) I emailed each of them a copy of the story instead, and immediately sent the story to the critograph for publication. This did not sit well with the Alphas.

In fact, I had a little phone chat with Mark earlier tonight, and he basically said that the article I wrote was not my best work and he hopes that it does not get printed into the critograph; he knows I've written for the critograpg before, but what he does not know is that each article that got printed in there was typed at the last minute, just like this article (I will not post the article here). I'll be honest folks, time was certainly not my best friend when they alerted me on when they wanted this article. I really was busy these past two weeks, what with schoolwork and working at Westover, and I did not take quick actions to write this sorry, and now I'm pretty much stressing over it. So, after my all-nighter, I got a breakfast in, dozed continuously through three out of my four classes, skipped my fourth class, and slept for about 5 hours.

I got a call from my Mom, making sure I was doing all right, and I gre very concerned when she alerted my advisor that I was involved in a verbal altercation with the Alphas. I would really hate to wonder what would happen if my advisor were to confront these people and create an overly dramatic case on this campus. I've been as composed as I can, and I seriously think that at some moment, I'm going to crack. I can't really compare my self to Lone right now, no offense, but I'm not going to try to kill myself or anything, but I am extremely cautious, and totally not myself these past few days, giving a false illusion to my acquaintances and friends that I'm doing fine.

It's late, and I have to make some changes to this article. Ruth, I know what you're going to say, but I guess this is just a time where Bonanza has reached his peak in vulnerability and helplessness. Just pray for me, and I should be doing all right. :)

Shoot, I'll add a song to cheer me up

Part 3 9/7/06

The following stems from conversations I had Monday afternoon about that article. Names and AIM screen names have been altered.

Quote:
NeonMarley00: "M"
NeonMarley00: i sent u an email with the article
LChornet: yea who is this??
NeonMarley00: BD
LChornet: has anyone talked to you about it yet??
NeonMarley00: the crit
NeonMarley00: they want me to get quotes from black frats and sororities
LChornet: who does??
NeonMarley00: "A"
LChornet: That will NOT be going into the Crit
LChornet: not one of us was happy upon seeing that
NeonMarley00: i did my best.
LChornet: We have all seen your work and could tell that you did not do your best. Do you T's phone number?
NeonMarley00: no, i do not
LChornet: you missed the word requirement that we gave you, you missed the deadline that we gave you and then you sent us this when we clearly asked for a HARD copy... and the list of problems goes on
NeonMarley00: time restraints.
LChornet: we are not going to talk about this over the internet though, you need to call one of us
LChornet: do you have my number??
NeonMarley00: yes
LChornet: then give me a call...this is not the way we do things

The above was a convo I had with one of the Alphas. As you can see, he's pretty pissed, and showed it in our cell phone convo.

Next:

Quote:
NeonMarley00: A
NeonMarley00: this is Bonanza
Floyd: hello
Floyd: so your article...
NeonMarley00: i know it needs some work
Floyd: do you have any quotes from anyone?
NeonMarley00: no
Floyd: because right now it kind of looks like a summary
NeonMarley00: i was not supposed to get any quotes from anyone
Floyd: who told you that?
NeonMarley00: the people who ran the idea to you guys
NeonMarley00: the people who "first" ran the idea
Floyd: what people?
Floyd: name please
NeonMarley00: all right, then
Floyd: maybe if you could talk to some of the leaders of the black frats and sorors on campus
NeonMarley00: i don't know if i should'
Floyd: ???
NeonMarley00: hold on
NeonMarley00: brb
Floyd: is there something going on that we should know about?

This was a convo I had with one of the heads of the critograph who was pretty concerned about the condition of my article, the first draft I did. She gave me another day to work on it, and I improved it the best I could. The Alphas and Deltas were at last satisfied, but lo, when the crit came out today, my article was no where to be found. Why? The crit had the last say, and my article was not newsworthy. However, I am done with this mess, and now I can move on. Woot!

you really want him to have more troubles, just so you can read the next part?

id prefer it if i never had to read another part again, if it meant bonanza had no worries.

bonanza, keep your head up mate.

Much thanks, Regal.

But I'm afraid that part two, and eventually even part three, have a little more trouble in my life.

You had not updated it when I asked that.

Also, could you not use your rhymes for your poetry class at all?

Well, part of my rhymes have this element of story telling. So, I turned in my "Fake number" song to the professor. Like, he especially talked about the beginning of the song "It all happened one day during my freshman year," and he basically said he didn't care about that detail. He wants me....to read other poet's work and see how they write, and the styles they use. It's a lot of pressure because I want to write like me, and I don't want to be a carbon copy of somone else. I happened to meet this great poet named Alan Shapiro Monday afternoon in class, and he really gave me some good advice on poetry writing, you know, to lessen the pressure I feel when I have to write one. He said that when I write, there's this sensor that makes me become more of an editor rather than a poet, so when I do a line, I focus so much energy on it because I want it to be just perfect. He said that sometimes, you just have to fall on your face, and just write, so that in the future, if there's anything I need to change, I can change it later. So, this week, in poetry, I felt "poetically charged," so much that in a mere hour and a half, I composed 5 new poems, so I believe that I have caught up with my poem quota. :)
