Like the title says, this is my favorite summer movie of 2014, barely edging out Captain America: The Winter Soldier followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Some of my thoughts:

I can't say enough good about the movie. The casting is perfect. Everybody hits their mark and the team is really great together. The jokes are a mile a minute and they hit their mark on every one.

As much as the movie is a comedic, it hits excellent notes of sadness, too. I had some mad feels when Rocket talked about his past and when he grieved over Groot's death.

I can't believe they got Vin Diesel to just say "I am Groot" dozens of times. Something about that is hilarious.

Agreed. Good movie.

I'll have to watch it again when it's not as crowded. I was literally sitting shoulder to shoulder. Not comfortable.

It's my favorite Marvel movie so far!
Good dose of humor, awesome chemistry between the characters, and the movie robbed me the chance of mocking Batista for playing a muscle head.

My favotite part of the movie:
"No raccoon or plant creature were harmed during the filming of this movie."
It makes me wonder about the other intergalactic races, tho.

Of all the Marvel movies this year, I feel that this one is lacking the most. That could be because I'm unfamiliar with the characters from the source content, unlike Captain America or the X-men. But that said, it still wasn't a bad movie. So it's worth the cost of admission, of only just.

The trailer made it out to be an comedy action film. And it was. Though they embellished the amount of comedy in there. But honestly, that's a good thing, because even with the amount they had, it was borderline too much. In fact:

Groots death scene (being the only emotionally invested scene since Peter's mother's death at the very beginning) was almost completely deflated by the comedy when Grax sat down beside the grieving Rocket and started petting him like a dog. And then it was ENTIRELY deflated when the very next seen it was all, "NOPE, Groot's fine."

Also, I really didn't care for the after credit scene that Marvel's been doing after all their films. Majority of the time, it leads to something big and epic for an upcoming movie. Like:

Apocalypse and his four horsemen, the introduction of Thanos, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, or even Nick Fury dong something as small as giving the Tesseract to the Collector. It's all interconnected and relevant.

And even with the one off-shoot of shawarma ending with the Avengers can EASILY be overlooked with the fact they introduced the second mention of the previous spoiler.
But the Howard the Duck cameo was wasted potential and a really lame way to end the film.
(This spoiler imposed by Ix. Apparently this is SUPER important information that warrants keeping this highly amazing information under lock and key.)

Not to mention that the main villain in the film, Ronan, was a complete throw away. He was uninspired and really didn't fill like he fit the film. Actually, he's one of the Fantastic Four's antagonists, they just decided to use him for Guardians... which might be why he felt shoehorned in as a villain. Honestly, I just wanted to see more of Thanos. HE'S the bad guy I'm interested in.

Though it sounds like I didn't like the movie, I will say that the action was good, the acting was good, and overall, the film was alright. The comedy was alright, even if it was a little more than I'd care for. But better than the other Marvel films? Not even close.

I barely had any familiarity with the characters of the film. In fact, aside from Rocket Raccoon (I know of his comics) and Thanos, I don't know how many of the characters are from Marvel comics. So I basically went in to see a sci-fi movie partially starring Rocket Raccoon, and that's what I got. I liked the characters, and the comedy got some laughs.

Yeah, Rocket's mourning of Groot was offset by muscle guy petting him, but honestly, I had a feeling that they wouldn't actually leave Groot dead.
One thing that got my attention throughout the movie is that a lot of characters were basically just humans painted red or blue. Guess they blew the budget on the special effects. =P Doesn't bother me, though. I'm actually glad they got real actors for most of the characters.

Really, the only part I didn't like was the very beginning, especially the way it went from very depressing to "oh look, aliens" in 2 seconds flat. ...Well, that, and I also think the infinity stone is a little overpowered. I fully expect it to come into play in the obviously-gonna-happen sequel.

Also, my grandpa is the one who went with me to see it, and he enjoyed it too.
