Now some of you might remember my thread where I griped about how, despite having the "sexier" look with her mini-skirt and well-endowment, Tifa acts a lot more innocent than Aeris the Flower Girl throughout the game, as Aeris latches onto Cloud's buster sword right away with no mercy from the get-go and it's actually really easy to see, not to mention fighting dirty in the love game (again, I refer you to what Aeris smugly does in person at the end of the Temple of Ancients if you bring Tifa along as the third member).

I couldn't help but give that one a lot more thought than I needed to, but here's something that took seventeen years to even come to my attention, and either I am completely naive of "sex signs", it was not as innocent a time in 1997 as I thought, or this theory/alleged truth is complete BS.

So, tell me this: Did any of you think that Cloud and Tifa implicitly intercoursed it up during their night together alone on the Highwind at the end of disc 2? You know, where Cloud tells everyone else to go home and think about what it is they are each personally fighting for before they tackle the final dungeon? Because, I TOTALLY never thought that in the least. I figure Tifa doesn't even get the nerve to flat out tell Cloud - again, God only knows why - that she straight up loves the stupid spiky-headed jerk during that time, just more that it's obvious without saying considering the way she cuddles with him at dawn, saying, "Just let me have this moment ....", and Cloud's like, "yeah, we never see it again after today."

But I just came across this today, on Tifa's wikipedia page that "A scene intended to imply herself and Cloud having sex was proposed by Masato Kato, one of the event planners, but it was replaced with a toned down version by Kitase in which a risqué line is followed by a fade to black. In an interview Nojima stated that none of the staff thought the scene would become such an issue at the time."

And I'm like, okay, what? When did this happen? There's a lot of risque stuff implied in the first fifth of the game that takes place in Midgar, sure, especially in the Wall Market, but this? So, I searched further and found a few links concerning the possibility. Arguing from both sides.

http://www.cloudandaerith.com/Highwind.html

I never even thought of it. I just didn't get that vibe even when Tifa says something like, "Words aren't the only way to show someone how you feel." How often is that used to mean sex is the other way, rather than just actions in general. And if she meant it that way, what, are we trying to turn Tifa into a sexual aggressor like that? Who just drops her hair and lifts the tank top without even asking if the guy would want to do it in the first place? (As you can see, I've gotten braver over the last two years or so with how I term delicate subjects around the Mag ladies.) Nor should I think anything when Tifa gets embarrassed the next morning when the rest of the party hints that they were watching. I thought they were just talking about the tender cuddling moment or something. If sex really happened, then the others are really perverted just standing there at a distance watching them bang.

So, what of you guys? Did you get that impression? Have you heard that it's true or false one way or another?

You know, I really have to rant here for a moment. Even without the sex scenario, it just irritates me to this day that main characters like Cloud have their choice of one or more good women, with the women acting stupid throwing themselves at him but generally otherwise being likeable and admirable heroines. This is really just about my only gripe with Tifa. I get that she's known him since childhood and all that, but did he ever really even come through and "rescue" her like she asked him to promise? Unless you count just what the player does during battle, using guard materia to shield her from a fatal blow or something. But, obviously, storyline-wise? I can't think of anything. Cloud doesn't even show that he likes her the whole game. He shows almost zero interest outside of what the player can control. The way he just brushes off the date - or tries to - with Aeris or Tifa at the Gold Saucer on top of everything else made me wonder if the dude even LIKED girls at all, or if he's just so wrapped up in his own miserable life. I just don't understand why a douchebag like him gets the attention of not only a good woman like Aeris, but also a wonderful beautiful woman like Tifa. Seriously, nothing will convince me that Cloud is anything less than a boring asshole almost the entire game. That time he just goes "... something" during his date with Yuffie really just seals it. I don't even like Yuffie, but that was just being an ass. Seriously, screw this guy. And Squall, too, while I'm at it. (Although, at least Squall eventually comes out and starts openly showing his feelings for Rinoa in ways. I really don't think Cloud EVER did.)

I don't know; I guess in video games it is definitely true, that rule about how women always go after the jerks.

But you know what? If that works in real life with even good girls, I still refuse to take on some of Cloud's kind of douchebaggery just to get a girl's attention. No way.

I honestly think that this is overthinking a game that has been out for years. All I see is a game that was immensely popular in and out of the gaming circle, that after time has gone on, has turned out to be a marginally good game. Cloud, Aeris, and Tifa were the only ones that got real characterization anyway. Who else was there to fall for?

I didn't get the impression they had sex. But even if they did, I don't really think it's a big deal. It's whatever.

This.
Especially since FF7 had quite a few more things in it that were actually in the game and not half-censored out, like Clouds Crossdressing scene.
I mean, compared to that, sexual implications arn't that big of a deal. Not that 'I' mind, but I'm sure for the majority of people in America, people would care more about that than sexual whatevers(If you get what I mean, I feel I'm explaining it badly).

Either way, I kinda always thought that they had snu-snu, myself.

I'm pretty sure they did.

Since Square Enix employees have gone on record confirming it and all.

I was never under the impression that they had sex.

Quite understandable.

FFVII may still be my favorite game, but that doesn't mean that I won't recognize the flaws. One of the game's shortcomings is that despite the good story, it often tries to present it in the most confusing way possible. I have had to replay this game several times before I really understood half of what was going on.

For example: While they technically reveal this plot point by flat out telling the player this... who really understood that the mysterious voice that was talking to Cloud throughout the game was Jenova? And that it was Jenova that the party was encountering throughout Disc 1 when "Sephiroth" appears? Hell, even the death of Aeris is by Jenova... even though Sephiroth is still technically responsible for her death as his will took over Jenova and is manipulating her throughout the game. Also, since Cloud has Jenova cells within him, that is why Sephiroth-through-Jenova is able to manipulate him so easily- see Black Materia for more details. (Also, fun fact: Jenova isn't technically a 'mother' as it has no real gender.)

And do not get me started on the whole 'clones' thing referring to genetics and not actual physical copies of a person (ala twin/triplets/whatever).

I have heard that multiple times, and I still don't see it. Especially since, upon defeating Jenova for the first time, they say that Sephiroth was carrying her.

How do you come to THAT conclusion?

As far as I understand you never actually meet the real Sephiroth until the game's final battle, and every scene with him in it is his will controlling Jenova.

But that basically means you ARE dealing with Sephiroth throughout the game.

Yeah, but the point is, Sephiroth is basically in cryostasis for the entirety of the game, and only awakens during disc 3 when you go to fight him.

Even that isn't for sure, though.

Because of how the lifestream works, I kinda figured you were having a 'mind battle' with the real Sephiroth, although he was dead.
That said, from what I understood. the real Sephiroth died from being stabbed and dropped into the Mako Reactor in Nibelheim. From there, the lifestream carried him to the Northern Cave, where you see his torn body. Though he is still alive in a way in the Lifestream controlling his 'clones'.
I haven't played the game in 'ages' though, so I dunno. This is from memory.

Either mistranslation or the characters simply not knowing yet? Personally, I'd be more inclined to take that bit of dialogue more seriously if there weren't other problems caused by confusing dialogue. Such as Hojo claiming that Cloud was an artificial construct made from Tifa's memories... even though, like the clone issue, is only true from a certain point of view.

Draygone wrote:

Well, for one, 'Sephiroth' keeps transforming into Jenova-whatever for boss fights. And, if it WAS Sephiroth, that would create this huge plot hole where they find his body encased in crystal in the Northern Crater (which he got there after Cloud stabbed him in the Nibel Reactor and threw him into the Mako below).

EDIT: This is also why in the movie Advent Children, Sephiroth is reborn from the one character whose name I cannot remember. Remember, he was a child of Jenova, who had Jenova cells within him. Sephiroth's form took over the guy's body and after Sephiroth died, he reverted back to normal. He did the same with Jenova- minus the revert back to normal part. As far as I know.

I know Sephiroth is in that crystal in the northern crater. I just assumed he projected himself to fight you.

Well, he did technically. Through Jenova. I'm sure it still counts as projection.
