It's almost here! OMG OMG OMG! I'm so excited! Going to see it Friday. Probably going to be so incredibly let down and crushed and feel like yet another piece of my childhood has been betrayed but idefk I'm going and I hope it's amazing.

Anyone else excited or going to see it?

I know pretty much nothing about Ender's Game at all. Why should I be excited about this?

I'm not supporting that author and his homophobic views.
That's right! He'll earn ~8 dollars less than he could.

Also, I don't know anything about it anyways.

I'm more cautiously optimistic than excited. Ender's Game is a good book and this movie could easily screw it over.

Edit by Ix: That was a spoiler, yo.

I'm with Duel on this one.

Card even said that a movie cannot be done since
the book almost entirely takes place in Ender's head...

I'll still go see it, just not opening night.

And on his homophobic views, I agree he was wrong, but so does he. He turned his views around and apologized for them. At least publicly. Remember, he comes from a very religious home where homosexuality is a sin. Also, think of when he was born. He was raised to despise a people. It's hard to let go of hate.

There's a movie of that thing coming out?

I read the book because apparently it was one of those nerd holy grail things, and it's... alright. It isn't excellent. It seems to follow the same model as Dune, where the first book is an exciting adventurous archetypal story that grabs the reader and then there's 8 or 9 sequels that are weird philosophical ramblings on a variety of topics. Never got around to reading past the first book in either series.

It could work really well as a movie, I think.

As for that spoiler up there... can anyone elaborate on that? Because it just isn't true from what I remember. Unless the book took a much sharper turn to the bizarre than I imagined.

Hmm.. that didn't sound like an apology to me. But hey, I'm not bashing anyone that goes see it. I'll just skip it.

As far as his views go, I've always held the opinion that I don't have to agree with an artist or creator to enjoy their work. If I did that then there would be quite few things I could legitimately enjoy. I'm not knocking anyone who does decide to skip something because of the creator's beliefs, just saying that's my personal outlook on the situation.

As far as expectations, I've already heard/read quite a few reviews. I expect it to be enjoyable but not the most amazing thing in the world. Doesn't lessen my excitement any. I'm loved the series since I was a child so I'm still pumped for it. I'll take the good things from it and deal with the bad that will work for me.

And while I do semi agree with OSC's opinion on turning the book into a movie, I feel like it won't be that big of a problem. Will it capture everything that the book is? No. Can it still be good? Definitely. I'm not a purest when it comes to anything, so as far as judging things go I'm pretty keen on leaving my opinions of the original work at the door.

@Ix cause it's a pretty awesome little sci-fi book. Has some awesome concepts and one of the biggest things about it is basically Space Laser Tag.

@TheGnasher - It's mostly just that the majority of the book is inner dialogue in Ender's head. Honestly, probably a good 50% of the book legitimately is just Ender thinking. It's difficult to portray that as an exciting movie cause inner monologues are kinda boring imo. Plus it's hard to transfer everything that Ender goes through when he doesn't show many emotions, but rather, thinks about everything.

And in the end it was the worst book to movie adaptation I've ever seen.

If you've never read the book, then to movie, is just alright...

Ah well to disappointment.

You probably need a more appropriate title for this thread...

I saw it tonight with my sister.

I overall liked it enough. The actors were just okay, which kinda hurt the immersion, but they did the best they could. I really liked the concepts, as KJ surmised.

Read the books. They are amazing. Two were so good I read them in a day each.
