I wonder how this is going to turn out. It's talking about how some of it's premium channel partners will be allowed to make money off subscriptions. Major networks on YouTube would require the subscription charges. What annoys me is the potential for some of the YouTube "stars" to make money directly off people who watch and subscribe to them, making extra revenue on top of what they make already. I'm not sure if it's going to be major partners like TV networks and such, or if it'll also include the likes of ijustine and Jenna marbles and such. While it sounds nice, you may wind up spending more in the long run of you subscribe to a lot of partners.

It seems more likely that the people that are more likely to use this (probably iJustine) will see a decline in viewership.

I don't expect a lot of popular channels to go for a subscription fee, atleast, not the channels I watch. Many of the channels that I am subscribed to already make a living (and usually a better one than their previous jobs) out of youtube, and I don't see them risking a significant decline in viewers in order to charge subscription fees.

All I know is that I don't plan to spend a single penny in youtube.

I can see Game Grumps doing this. They have so many subscribers, the loss of viewers would barely cause a dent in their popularity.

For people like me, it'd be idiotic. It'd also be idiotic to pay to watch someone on Youtube. Especially since there are so many similar channels that would remain free.

...Actually, in that case, I think it's a good idea. People will leave the popular channels behind and come to people like us, instead. =D

That's the hope. However, don't forget. we're dealing with YouTubers, many of which are really stupid. They'd probably pay hundreds to see iJustine in hopes that she'll show tits now that they throw money at her.

Yeah, unfortunately, some guys wouldn't even care if she's talented at anything else.

.... I am confident that the lady musician I admire so, Miss Kate Covington, will never stoop so low.

This will likely be for new channels giving out new content. Smart YTers won't just make their channels cost money without changing the content.

It also may mean some new company will make deals with television studios to have full episodes available on YT.

Really I think YT should just do it how twitch.tv does it. Pay if you want to; remove ads; support YTers of your choice.

This is stupid, but it will make money.

So shall it be and so shall it endure.
