Small update. Working towards some RPG Maker goals, I have decided to scrap my previous templates entirely... meaning, the spoiler'd animated gif up above was just silly. Too rigid, I guess. I want to put some of my own little flair into it. These are kinda based on the style of SD-characters I used to doodle in high school, but obviously much more refined.

Basically, I use these as a template for spriting. It's just easier for me to visualize, if that makes sense.

Here's the old templates, dolly nudesssss. While I think they're okay, it reminds me more of standard JRPG stuff... which the new ones certainly aren't totally western, but these just aren't me.

Fun stuff. But yeah, I'm debating right now if I have time to make some varied models for various physical builds right now. I'm going to try to get that done as well, since my aim for the most recent RPGM contest is to get a skeletal framework down for my actual project in terms of some assets.

Woah, this is cool. One of the best ways to start development on a new game or any creative project is to get your bearings down. Your plan to get a skeletal framework down is a great one because you won't be jumping into your project in the darkness, which makes everything so much easier.

I want to see an RPG that has red heart boxers as an equippable armor. :lol

You may just get your wish. I think that's about the coolest secret ever.

Did some more doodling, for fun- for something more akin to actual portrait art, or something like that.
I wanted to mess with a main character off the top of my head.

...She just ended up looking like Lynn from Fire Emblem.:P

Back to working a bit on this. I really gotta make this deadline for the contest! August seems so far away, but February is already almost half over. It's going to be a tall order, but I have decided to just go ahead and make my own sprites on everything- characters, and environments. Ergo, my game will be small scale in terms of a world, but this is just wise anyways for myself so I can go ahead and make what characters and world I have feel alive rather than just there to be a town before a dungeon.

That being said, this is the start of my new sprites- the more rendered ones on the left also started out as simple black pixel line art. It's going to be fun actually making sure I can get these sprites imported correctly, haha. VX Ace takes sprites of any size- as long as they're formatted properly in spacing and stuff. All 4 of these shared one thing- they're 64 pixels tall, 32 wide. 32 x 32 is a tile space in RPGMVXA. While I'm not unhappy at all with my very first attempt at a pixel character base on the left, I am excited for the potential in the newer ones.:)

I'm pretty happy with them! I really like the idea of various body types and stuff, and actually having kids look like kids. And even teens. And heavier people are a win. I also plan on fixing up more than a Wonder Bread human race in my game, so that will also be worked on.:)

Nudist guy is a walker kinda now too. A very much beta walker. Beta 0.1. Seriously. I mean his head isn't even moving! It ain't natural, it's it's... unnatural. And a line to denote some chest turning, since people don't usually walk without moving at all otherwise.

This is the old one, which... meh. I am trying to be more dynamic than shift-foot-up-several-pixels. This one never got finished, that was as far as I got animating those old, weirdly super-detailed bases.

So, I entered a local photography contest last weekend! It was my first competition for it, but I figured it'd be fun. I decided to scout out a local historic mill, and got two pictures to enter(that was the limit) under the enhanced photo category. I won first and second place in my category!:D

I took both of these with a cheapish tripod and my older Canon PowerShot.

Here's first:

I don't think I would've picked it as first from the two pictures, but hey, subjective stuff. It's a macro of this really cool lichen on a wooden fence in front of the mini-falls by the mill.

Here's the second picture, with the basic HDR effect I got first(basically layering differently exposed shots to achieve a super-dynamic-range).

Then I hit Photoshop with it, and ended up with this:

This received second. It's the entry to the mill.

I'd love to. BUT. Since the deadline is September 14th for now, I'm not quite there yet. It's also never something I've done before(well I haven't made humanoid sprites quite before either). In a project of my own with no time limit- certainly.:)
