Cool deal!

https://twitter.com/RPGMMAG

I updated the Twitter. I took a stab at the password and linked it to the Youtube account.:p

For now, just use that for stuff! It has updates on Livestreams, it has the MagCast episodes as they are uploaded immediately, etc!

Two bits of news:

EA Investor Meeting:
We might launch out nextbox games for $70 out of the gate.

Skullgirls Indiegogo for new character Squiggly: $150k and the controversy over the cost of it:

They hit the goal in under 24 hours and they now have stretch goals for other characters.

As you can tell, we didn't record today. People are sick and otherwise doing things, slow news...

But, next week at MagCon, I am going to try and record an episode! Sadly I will be using my Mac and the hotel internet is apparently not that good anyways. If I can manage it, I might try to stream a hangout(and get some long distance people in if possible too) to Youtube for people to watch live.:)

And as of today, I officially cancelled the Podhoster service. I am backing up show descriptions, and I am going to try and work on some sort of feed for the site and see if we can integrate it into v6 somehow, if not sooner. As to why- I have explained this to some people before... but I was led to believe our upload amount reset each month. This was not so, despite other Podcast hosts ALL doing this. It was stupid and they wanted us to delete old shows to keep it going. That's unacceptable, so Youtube will be the temporary solution. They will also continue to be uploaded there regardless, as always.

Also, since I was out longer than intended tonight, and I still need to do a nice clean of a couple rooms and maker dinner- the new episode will be up tomorrow. It's partially done, but I probably will hit the hay early tonight.

Happy weekend.

Hello!

The MagCast MagCon episode will be going up tonight.

Additionally, tomorrow- PAX! Predictions, discussing news that has already dropped, etc.

http://wow.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/heart ... ow-so-far/

First one is something I found cool. World of Warcraft has a cool-looking TCG... but I'm not much into collecting cards much anymore. So this piqued my interest. It's also odd to see Blizzard finally making the jump to tablet gaming(it will also be on PC/Mac), but it makes total sense for this game. Another thing that is interesting is the take that they have played numerous card games, and always have since the company was tiny. If you don't know, World of Warcraft was based on a love of Everquest by the staff, and similar MMOs. So that is good to hear from them, I think.

My one concern has been "Why Free to Play?" It has been answered by implying- much like the Pokemon TCG Gameboy game(forgive me if Magic on the consoles has done this as well), you get booster packs if you win against opponents. Then you get to open said booster packs and deck build with those. I am assuming if you wanted to cut out the time commitment of earning the cards, people can buy the boosters.

Not a Blizz fan? There's plenty all over the blogging sites, if you need suggestions- try Joystiq, Kotaku, and Destructoid.

Also this:

http://kotaku.com/5991930/capcom-is-bri ... tales-back

DUCKTALES XBLA REMAKE BABY.

I will of course bring some topics, and I know Bot will have the house locked down- but if you wanna bring up a story or two, just go ahead and bring those up tomorrow. What I'm interested in may not be what other people are interested in, and vice versa- and variety is the spice of life.

Dude. RPG Maker Minute for sure.

I read about the article, however... I never actually followed the jump. It is cool that she is using VX Ace. I will definitely donate to that, it is just a good cause. And flipping adorable.

Quote:
I have friends that are which is fine, but I hate wearing dresses (so I don't) and I do lots of stuff my brothers do. Maybe if I sisters it would be different, but I really love my family (even when my brothers are mean to me) so I guess this is the way my life is supposed to be.

Haha, man. I would've said the same at 9. I also had my older half-brother pick on me and say I couldn't play Tetris or other Gameboy/NES games. I'm so glad she was successful, haha. I also always wanted to do the summer programs. I never had enough money. So I can very much relate to that, too. Back in my day there were some summer workshops that my neighbors got to do involving various subjects- heck, I think one was even pen and paper game design. If I could do this RPG Maker camp, I so would've even at like 13-14 if there had been one like that. I will give the admins of Ace their lumps for being just... stupid at times, but accessible game design is something that everyone can use in order to diversify gaming and create a fresh future in the game industry, with more games like Beyond Good & Evil as opposed to brown shooter #490.

Also... ugh trolls. On a 9-year-old girl. I guess I'm not surprised at the internet, but I think people have tended to forget from the Fem Freq, Skullgirls, and this very Kickstarter- that these are donations by people who believe in a goal. There's nothing saying they have to donate money. It's just so gross when people come and muck those things up(that are harder to get a foot in the door), while probably simultaneously buying stuff like... games by EA or something.:p

This news also comes at a time where it is reminded that it is harder for a girl to enter the gaming industry. A woman was recently fired for defending herself, and it is absolutely evident of the wonderful #1ReasonWhy(and subsequently, #1ReasonToBe as a positive side) campaign.
http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/ingam ... -1C7283842

Obviously, I don't need to go into that during the topic, but that way people aren't confused if I mention it in passing.

EDIT: So, it turns out her mom may be scummy. I hate when stuff like this happens, and all that. I have no doubt that little girl wants to hit up camp and bring home a project to share. I don't. But if they don't donate those extra funds or do something.... just whoa.

Good news from the little girl RPG Maker Kickstarter front!

Quote:
1. The campaign launched late Thursday evening.

Please note AGAIN this campaign was approved by Kickstarter. If you have a problem with that, contact Kickstarter. On my end, as soon as it became apparent this campaign was resonating and we were going to surpass our goal (which was literally within 24 hours of it launching), I reached out to Kickstarter and people smarter than me (women in tech/gaming community) for their advice and guidance on what to do next?

Remember, this was a weekend project for my daughter and I for $800. We had no grand plan. And there were no big rewards initially. I was being told to add stretch goals and additional rewards because backers sensed something was happening and they wanted to allow room for that to happen. And while a few backers expressed an interest in Kenzie's future (which I appreciate), I always knew the money would not be spent on my family and certainly not on Kenzie's college fund (both are clear KS violations and would simply be a bad use of funds given what the crowd was trying to do). Kenzie's campaign was to create an RPG Game - period! And she's still jazzed to do that.

And while I appreciate the backer's enthusiasm with respect to Kenzie's future, if you'll get to "the truth," you'll see I never expressed any interest in keeping the extra money. I immediately knew the extra money had to go to something bigger because it was clear something bigger was happening. And the truth is I knew I wasn't qualified to figure it out alone.

THAT WAS FRIDAY! It's only been a few days and most people aren't even working on the weekend. But while the haters went for horrible personal attacks and death threats against me and my daughter, I found some great advisors to figure out the best thing to do with the extra proceeds and the campaign over the next twenty something days so that it can do something GREAT for girls (and boys) in tech and gaming.

2. Here's the email I sent to Kickstarter Friday, March 22:

Mar 22 11:37 (EDT): My daughter Mackenzie and I have a live campaign that's taking off. It's good and bad and I'm working through the negative comments. I've been asked about stretch goals but I don't want to violate any kickstarter rules. I'm hoping for some guidance b/c this campaign is becoming bigger than just being about Mackenzie and I want to maximize the opportunity to do the most good (without breaking any rules). I'm being approached by Adobe, Discovery and some other amazing people and I want to do the best I can with this to help Kickstarter too. So I'm really looking for some one-on-one help with this project at this point to figure out what next steps should be? PLEASE???!!!!!!!!!!!

3. And here's the response I got directly from Kickstarter on Friday, March 22:

Mar 22 17:50 (EDT): hi Susan, This is john from Kickstarter. I sent out an email earlier in the day, I'm not sure you've seen it yet. I'm attaching it below for your reference - let me know if you have questions and I'll be happy to help you out. hi Susan, This is John from kickstarter, we just wanted to get an email out to you with some quick thoughts. First of all - let me just say congratulations. This is an awesome project, and we love seeing such a positive outlook on creativity and ambition geared towards young people. You're a very cool mom for helping her out...A couple of specific thoughts on what you can do to make the project more manageable: You don't have to create stretch goals. It's completely optional. If Mackenzie has something she wants to do for backers to show her appreciation that won't be a burden on her and your family, she can do it. But please don't feel obliged to create stretch goals...Finally, for all the folks in the comment section nitpicking, there are exponentially more that are rooting for you, Mackenzie (AND her brother!). You can count the folks at kickstarter in that crowd. Please let us know if you have any questions, John

AGAIN, I want to say the extra proceeds WILL NOT be kept by my family. What will happen with the money? I don't know yet. But smart people are trying to figure out the best use to do the most good for the most people. It's been a weekend. Give us some time please!

Though I don't think it's anyone's business, to protect my daughter's life, I've decided to disclose I don't have a million dollars in the bank, I'm not rolling in cash and I'm not a highly paid business woman. Frankly, I'm unemployed at this very moment! Rumors or statements to the contrary are outright lies (TRUTH SEEKERS, here's another to latch onto). Trace them back to their origin and find the "truth"...please! I don't know why or what anyone hoped to gain but my hunch is someone latched onto something someone else said and took it to be a fact and then assumed the worst. That's sad. And wrong!

Have I been successful in business? Yes, but success doesn't equal wealth - particularly for women AND especially for female entrepreneurs. Do some research and get the real facts about female entrepreneurs!

Haters have been promising the truth will come out and I HOPE IT DOES! The picture of me with Warren Buffett is when I received an award from FORTUNE Magazine for being a Top Ten Female Entrepreneur - a judgment you'll have to ask Pattie Sellers at FORTUNE about because it wasn't a selection of the wealthiest female entrepreneurs - just the ones that were working hard to make a difference.

I certainly won't apologize for my success! Nor will I apologize for making a small bet on roulette SEVERAL YEARS AGO and against all odds, winning big and then marching my butt over to the Christian LouBoutin boutique to buy a pair of the coveted shoes. I'm a 43 year old wife and mother of 3 and those self-indulging moments don't happen often.

I have always been and remain intrigued and passionate about the power of the crowd! Why? Because it allows regular people to come together and do great things. Period! The crowd put this campaign way over it's goal - not me and certainly not my 9 year old daughter. FundHer is a reflection of my passion with respect to women and entrepreneurship. And though I started FundHer as a passion project several years ago, it never got any traction and to date has garnered less than $100 in donations over several years but has given away far more. I encourage truth seekers to research this thoroughly because once again, I LOVE THE TRUTH! As for FundHer, I like the name, I use the email and I tweet because I remain hopeful that one day something will "pop" and FundHer will get some traction. I certainly didn't manipulate this into happening with Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform and FundHer is a website. They are very different entities and engines.

Kickstarter is about the power of the crowd and though you might not always like what the crowd says, you can't push the "It's not Fair" button when you disagree. Though I'm not in the 1% club, I do find it sad many think Kickstarter should only be used for the downtrodden and the poor because it has the power to extend far beyond.

Kickstarter and crowdfunding have the power to change the way money is moved, allocated and ultimately shared. Veronica Mars raised millions recently which clearly proves what Kickstarter is about and capable of showing. It may flip the movie industry on its heels. Who knows? Monte Cook and indie game developers have certainly shaken up the gaming world via Kickstarter. And that's the point! Did anyone know that would happen? No! And it could just as easily have gone the other way. It takes guts and courage to put yourself out there. But these people realize questions today are often far more powerful than answers.

I hope the backlash I've experienced doesn't stop others from having the courage to put themselves out there, asking new questions - questions the crowd has the power to answer. The alternative is the status quo and that would be a sad use of the amazing advances we've seen in social networking and technology.

In closing, for the people that feel so violated by this campaign, I'd think the death threats against a 9 year old and her mother would resonate with your sense of justice as well. Perhaps in your free time you can research these two threats in particular and follow up with the FBI because I'm certain death threats, slander and libel are against the law (which equals even BIGGER violations of Kickstarter's Terms of Service & Guidelines)!

TL;DR

-Trolls claim Kickstarter breaks the rules
-Trolls send death threats to mom and her daughter(go figure, internet) and run wild
-Kickstarter supports the campaign, and is against said trolls
-Mom says she is not keeping the money, they are researching where to put it towards this weekend
-She also mentions she never even expected this success
-Would break KS's rules if she used it for daughter's college fund
-Money will more than likely help others who want to get into tech
-Kickstarter is NOT Kiva(though those trolls have probably never donated to Kiva in their lives)

This is exactly what I was hoping would happen. I didn't wanna see her pocket that and lose faith in the campaign. I wasn't entitled to it; however, a good change of fortune. Figured I'd follow up since this happened just now via email.

It's interesting that these faceless people are mad that this is successful. I guarantee that since they're on KS, they've backed games, etc, with money that could've went to a site called Kiva that funds small businesses and new ones in more poverty-stricken countries. I had a quote for the podcast, one that was basically "If you keep thinking about where the money could go, there's always a better cause" or something to that effect. And it's absolutely true- so fund what you want to was their message.

Considering it is Easter weekend, this week will be a break from the MagCast! Have fun! Decorate an egg! Eat a ham! Devour a chocolate bunny head!

In the meanwhile, the most recent MagCast will be up tomorrow. Enjoy!

I do hope it isn't a sickness the dear girl has brought upon herself, with all of the stress she seems to have been dealing with for a while, now.

Thanks for the warm wishes! I'm feeling a lot better now, and yeah- probably a bit stress related. Very much happy to feel better though!

Okay, what is the absolute latest you guys are willing to start recording Magcast on Saturdays? Because I work on Friday nights, and those nights tend to be pretty hard and I usually don't get home until 5-6am (Central). And I wind up skipping supper for the sake of waking up "on time" for Magcast. But lately I've been stressing out about going to bed early enough, so I'd like to know if there's a comfort zone that would allow me time to relax and eat and especially relax before bed.

For example, I just got home now. And I really don't feel like going to bed now, so I'm gonna eat and go to bed in a couple hours. Hopefully I don't wake up so late that I miss the 'Cast and miss a discussion I could've really gotten into. Though at the same time, I hope I don't get too little sleep because I woke up too early to not miss the 'Cast.

No worries Dray! I think at this point in time, we all need to reconsider the time anyways- new jobs, and you're stressed out(and that's a no go for me because believe you me I hate stress especially now).

I actually just came here to post that I personally forgot we were having company over this weekend, and we're going to be having her over in a few hours. I need to host, so we're going to have to postpone anyways(sleepy Dray, if you are reading this go relax).

I know it's been forever since we got to record however- so I am going to try and wrangle everyone up on a weekday this week. What day works for people? What time? Just be sure to mention your time zone. Furthermore- as a permanent recording day- what time works? What day works?

Magcast is never so important that it should cause you legitimate stress...

Anyways, I'm always free saturday and sunday's after noon.
