They came away with the weakest software announcements of all time. I couldn't think of a single thing they showed that I was interested in. And all their focus was on "OMG LOOK HOW GOOD THIS LOOKS." So much so that one of they key highlights was showing off a render of 80 year old David Carradine's head. Also, you have the ability to change from your TV to a mobile device like a pad or something. Totally original and totally nothing like how the Wii U transfers the game to their game pad. The ONLY thing I found remotely interesting was the built in option to live stream gameplay. I mean, that technology already exists, so this is nothing new... but they did make it easier. That's cool, I guess.

As far as titles, there's a new super realistic racer which I couldn't care about. A first person shooter, and then Square came out and showed off a year old video for what supposedly supposed to be the next Final Fantasy, and then announced that they have an announcement for E3. ¬_¬ The best game they showed off was Watch Dogs... which looked like a less ghetto GTA with more gadgets. Meh...

Nintendo's direct thingie was better than this.

It just confirmed my fears about the coming systems from the other two makers. We're just getting all of the same genres and games of last generation, except prettier. Killzone looks great, but it is STILL a first-person shooter.

The share button with streaming is actually excellent, though. But if the console doesn't have games I want to play on it, then what's the point?

I think my feelings are best summed up as this, since it's so succin-

I get the streaming is cool. And I bet it will be able to go direct to sites like Twitch as well(they did partner with em, right?) and perhaps this will be the end of companies getting sand in their bottoms over people recording gameplay footage of new games. A more cynical side of me thinks certain companies are going to opt out of allowing you to share gameplay footage with your friends since it may make them decide to not purchase a game- obviously ignoring the other common truth that it will more than likely encourage way more game purchases than discourage them. I'm so sick of publishers always putting out a weak product and then complaining that the consumers who didn't even buy their game for whatever reason are technically a "lost sale" instead of a failure on their own part.

I also worry about how they mentioned nothing really about games, aside from a huge push to digital. I don't have a problem with digital- but digital does in fact mean this in current gen- it is married to your ID, and it serves as more of a license than a game. The whole emphasis on "You can try games!" is good by itself, but I have to look this gift horse in the mouth. No mention of physical media that I could hear. Try before you buy... online marketplace- undoubtedly a huge shift to digital just like Nintendo is even pushing to do now. So while I don't think your games are going to be married to your console- I do think your PSN ID is going to be more married to your console just like the Vita, where you can only have one PSN ID per memory card as I recall. And very much digital. Kind of like what Ouya is pushing with this F2P model/demo/whatever of any game on the marketplace.

Speaking of which, I loved that they hit both the Kinect bar AND the Wii U gamepad with how their controller tracks motion. I don't see myself using the feature at all... I just don't care much about motion, and when I do- it's usually Nintendo-based more.

The games failed to excite. I wish it was more exciting. If I hadn't beaten Diablo 3 already, maybe that'd be more exciting- but Torchlight got released on XBLA ages ago. It's not exactly this groundbreaking PS4 tech- though it makes me curious that Blizzard mentioned this was the beginning of a partnership... so I imagine an original game for the PS4 is probably in the works.

That disembodied head.... heebeejeebee what in the... I just don't know. I don't know what Sony was thinking really. I guess that they got the majority of the 18-25 dude demographic with explosions(someone mentioned that later in the show I think, funnily enough), and the ACTION GUY ACTION GUY CONSPIRACY ACTION GUY... enhhhh. I can try and care all I want, but I'm just not a huge fan of action for the sake of action. I enjoy certain FPS- but I'd like to see a return to a more classic feel like Goldeneye 007 where it wasn't so bad at all. Or a fun party-style game like L4D or something. I don't know.

And if Japan saw the same conference... they have got to be disappointed at least a little bit? I mean there were barely any Japanese game announcements. And I can't see the whole country fawning over Square anymore after FFXIII and the no-towns and linearity hallway simulator. FFX did start that in all fairness though, which the teleporting thing.

I think I'd give this conference/whatever a D. The hardware means nothing to me without software to back it... and a lot of the hardware was just more artsy terms than practical fun. It felt like a Sony music commercial, just with games.
