AFTER SO LONG A NEW EPISODE IS UP. I already explained what happened, but apologies all around again. I think this is a great episode. It was new to me as well, haha.

We should be back on track. Expect last Sunday's episode to be up before we record our next one. The people win, with two episodes in one week.:P

'Kay, so I'm missing like... two audio tracks from the episode we did last Sunday(Dec 2nd I believe).

If people could get those to me, I'd be grateful. I'm also just moving to a date recorded system. As in, naming files by the date we record. I'm not going to get picky, just something like "fay_dec2" is fine enough.

In lieu of all that, I will have a new episode uploaded by the end of today. I'm going to start aiming for Fridays as upload dates. Time sensitive stuff being mentioned in the podcasts is still fine, since we do stream a lot of the time anyways it's relevant for people listening to that.

Why Fridays? Because I go through every single audio track and clean em up. Most podcasts have like... 2-3 people, so it goes fast. We usually have like 5. I'm not complaining, but I have to be realistic in that it's gonna take a half hour at least to clean each track and it's not the only thing I do. So that way, I can clean em up throughout the week and then just render at the end of the week and stuff. And there's also the fact I'm still missing 2 tracks for 7, which was last Sunday's recording... so time is a factor as well with people getting the actual tracks to me. I'm also not complaining about that- I just don't want anyone to feel super rushed. This should be a fun thing, after all.

This all being said, I'm trying to be less OCD when editing. Believe me you, after doing this for a few weeks or so, I can now see stuff like typing and mic bumps on the waveforms. There's also the fact we live by a main road, so many many cars roll past and are audible... but I get all those off my track... except when I'm talking and they decide to do that crap. Pretty sure they're watching to make sure they go by when I talk, and they're in cahoots with Dray's lawn-mowing neighbor.

ALSO. Important. I'd like to get some new people to the show. We've had SK, which was fun within itself, but I'm looking at Duel right now as well. I've heard his mic quality and stuff over other stuff, so he's set. I really like the idea of a guest rotation. But we're keeping the 5 people limit cause sanity. So if you don't make it to a week of the show, don't fret. And I imagine people will begin to have other obligations or interests as time goes on at the time slot. That's fine too.

Yeah, I'd be up for it but I would need some sort of outline of the topics beforehand. If there's enough for me to talk about then I'll be good to go. I don't want jump into the podcast and be silent the whole time.

Hey guys! I got in a bit late tonight, but I went on an editing marathon after I made dinner. And the rendering on the MP3/MP4 took a small while as usual, but the upload is in progress and it will be there in under an hour. Good news is, it seems like editing is getting faster and faster for me as I continue to get practice.

Man, I have bangin' Friday nights.

I made a shorter overview since we seem to talk forever, and I assume others will have stories to add.

The MagCast
December 9 2012

Nintendo of Europe hides 18+ rated games from the marketplace during the day so that kids can't access them. Even though they already have parental controls in place.

ARCHOS just came out with an Android tablet that honestly looks alot like an oversized Vita sans the rear touch panel. Available now in Europe, US release possible.

Bioshock Infinite delayed again until March 26, 2013. Box art is smartly made for uninformed retail customers.

SEGA signed a deal with Games Workshop to make new Warhammer games. Creative Assembly, the devs behind Total War will be working on the project. Since THQ still owns the rights to Warhammer 40,000 ther won't be any Space Marines or Necrons. At least until THQ has to start liquidating it's less active assets.

SquareEnix put up a teaser site for an unannouced game. Siliconera found a recent tradmark for the name "Star Galaxy." We will know for sure in a few days when the official announcement is made. Could it be Star Ocean related?
Perhaps, a Star Ocean MMO? If based on the first two games, then sign me up!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is coming to PS3 in HD. Amazingly you can import your saves from PSP to the HD remake on PS3, including game cleared saves.
JPN release of 4830 yen ($58) on April 25, 2013.

Journey is up for a Grammy. More specifically, Austin Wintory, the composer for the game, is the one nominated in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category.

Street Fighter X MegaMan fan game is becoming an official Capcom game! The fan game sees classic Mega Man gameplay where the Robot Masters are replaced with Street Fighter characters. They'll be using their iconic fighting moves and you'll be able to equip their powers to Mega Man after defeating them in boss battles. Capcom has given their official blessings on the project and best of all, the game will be available for free on December 17 for the PC through Capcom-Unity.com

The SteamBox Rumors seem to be true. Valve is going to release Steam-enabled PC to compete with the next generation of consoles. “Well, certainly our hardware will be a very controlled environment,” Newell said. “If you want more flexibility, you can always buy a more general purpose PC.” Newell goes on to add that the advantage of PCs is in different kinds of packages available, which lets buyers decide what would suit them best. This makes you wonder what OS will run on it. What after-market software can be installed. How much power will be given to the user and how much will Valve retain? It sounds like it will be a halfway cross between a traditional home console and a PC. What will differentiate this from consoles?

Notable Releases:

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
(PC, IOS, Mac [soon], Android [TBA]) $19.99 at beamdog.com
- Originally released in 1998, it can be a real pain to run on a newer machine, so rereleases of classic games can in fact be a real treat. Packed in with a good amount of new content as well as "over 400 improvements" to the core game. A slightly updated UI too.

Duke Nukem 1&2
(PC, Mac) $5.99 at GOG.com

I am going to try to get online early. Hopefully, we can start a little earlier this week. Last week, I had to be on the clock 18 minutes after we stopped recording. It was close, lol.

So, we're gonna remain behind this week... I have Insultobot's and Lantis and Ixz's audio from the Dec 2nd Magcast(This would be 7, we just recorded 8 last Sunday).

I'm going to just try something new this week. I'll record my audio separately still(I have a ton of cars zooming by and and stuff), but I'm just going to start recording my system audio with Hypercam and ripping the sound from that. Thing is, if your volume is too low, that's on your end since it'd be on a single track. But I dunno, maybe this will work better. I recommend people also record as usual this week, just as a backup.

As to why I'm doing this- it's getting to be too much to juggle 5 files every week. Not that I can't edit them or anything like that- but keeping track of who has given me what is getting to be insane(and a lot of the time, everyone has a different episode number). Especially since people have not given me stuff from the week before last, and I'm also getting stuff for this week(which ironically enough, I have all the files from the Dec. 9th... last Sunday). It's getting awkward and confusing a bit to manage.

If my stereo mix recording doesn't work out well, we'll switch back to Audacity- and I think it won't be a problem for everyone to just get Google Drive, make a folder named Magcast, and share it with me. That way my PM box isn't a whirlwind of messy and you can upload at your convenience still. And, the bonus and beauty of it is that it can organize by date very, very well. And this will make for less confusion overall.

Apologies for not having an episode ready this week. Feels bad.

Well, damn, sucks to hear that this is becoming a headache. But you do edit the podcast together, arguably the most time consuming and difficult aspect in the podcasting world, so dont worry about not uploading an episode on time, i dont think anyone will be grabbing their pitchforks and microphones in a fit of rage.v

The worst thing that can happen is having someones audio get deleted by accident.

...someone didn't send you files from TWO WEEKS AGO?!

That's a shame. If I streamed it that one, it should have automatically saved on my end. I'll see if I still have it.

:EDIT:

Sorry, I only have the most recent one still.

Thanks. I do feel bad though, since I like to get these up by Fridays now. No files are lost! I have mine!

If the stereo mix thing works out though, great. It is time consuming to edit 5 tracks individually. If I can buzz that down to two, that's not bad at all. That way, I just have all the files automatically afterwards. If you want a hint of the quality, my Gunbound video was recorded using that.:D

I think that's the best possible way to handle it, if nothing than to bypass people sitting on their files for weeks.

There's a bit of a problem though. My stereo mix is stupid and gives static at decent volumes. Playing with it. I can also use remove noise in Audacity though, but I guess we'll see with this week.

We should make saving to Google Drive a prerequisite to being on any episode.
