I've had this game multiple times and I made fiddled around with it but never took the time to do anything with it. So I'm wanting to give it a go, but everything that I did know how to do has been forgotten over the years. Figured I'd get any advice that anyone would like to give out.

I'll throw my hat in the ring, here.

Use RPG Maker's limitations to your advantage. Use the objects and tiles in a creative way. Slice an object in half, combine two wall tiles to form new walls, and make use of low or high pitched audio cues. Just be creative and most importantly have fun with it. Take a look at games like Remote Control, FuFu, and hell, even Final Ocean Blue.

Also, master the switching system. It's not that difficult.

Disc Flac made an excellent guide to help teach how to use RPG Maker 1. You can find it on this site and at gamefaqs. It really helped me learn how to play when I got started.

That's the guide in question, if you were curious. I highly recommend it.

That was a really great faq. It helped me understand a lot of the basics of the maker. Cannot go wrong with it.

by far the best advise i can give is to start out with something simple. so many have gone out and tried to make an epic right from the start. making a good game takes time and alot of learning, so do a small project first.

everyone ive seen whos played and tryied to take on more then they could handle has ended up discuraged and quit before they where able to make something good. many had good potential but just where discuraged too fast because they couldnt create something great immediately. just chip away at how the game work and you can end up with a fantastic game.

my only regret is that more people would be interested in rpg maker still. making a game for an incredibly limited audience doesnt give you alot of inspiration to make a game.
