This was a movie I had no interest in, in fact, I didn't even see the first one. So, I went into this movie somewhat clueless but with some decent knowledge of Silent Hill 3. I played that for an hour or so and thought it was pretty uninteresting. Guess what? I had that same similar experience watching this movie!

I decided to judge this movie in two categories: As a HORROR movie and as a video-game-based movie. On the horror side, this movie fails. Every "scare" in it is triggered by a cliche BANG and a zoomed in shot of a disgusting face. It's a typical horror trope that is used constantly and ineffectively in this movie. The reason for that is because none of the actual effects, monsters, or environments are scary at all! Hell, they're not even unnerving! Silent Hill is supposed to be about psychological horror, using twisted unrecognizable creatures and sounds to impose a sense of fear. The creatures just pop up without even a bit of tension and build-up.

In the second category-and I can't believe I'm gonna say this-it's aight. You have your nurses, and obviously you have Pyramid head and, I mean, yeah, they come in and do their job as if the movie is telling you "Hey, man, this is Silent Hill! Oh, damn, look at these sexy nurses! Like the game huh?" but in the end this movie fails to live-up to (what vidya adaption does olol?) what Silent Hill is all about: making you tense and focused in a very atmospheric world.

Just rent this off RedBox when it comes out on DVD. If you're under the age of 18 and like to think of your personal versions of Silent Hill becuz ur super srs and omg guys silent hill is lek my life i hav problems, go see this in the theaters during the evening or something.

It figures it didn't live up to that. I'd imagine it's hard capturing the atmosphere of Silent Hill in a movie. Still, this is a video game movie we're talking about.

That said, I'm sorry to hear that this movie is disappointing. I didn't have high hopes, but it was coming off of SH1, which wasn't terrible. Oh well.

Now I'm even MORE sad that my wife is dragging me to this...
