I'm really sorry about it. Hey, do you work nights moreso? If people can be here earlier for this temporary Sunday thing, I can. I'd love to make it work with people as best as I can, especially since I had forgotten what day the training was, and it was signed up for/paid for before we set times. I guess I also wasn't thinking about myself, and just tried to get everyone else's stuff to work.:P

Just let me know, Bot.

It's been up, but episode 1! The first non-test thing.

Borderlands 2! Stuff!

I just heard it all today. This one was a good improvement over the one before. A fine first episode, I think.

But where did Dray go? :p

Also, thread rename!

Awesome.

Magic land!

And, I think we actually do have kind of a cool topic this week.:)

https://twitter.com/MingyJongo

Bot posted that twitter yesterday in chat. And it has been coming up all over the internet. The relevance being, that's the old Rare members, and they'd like to make a spiritual successor to their old games.

Yowza.

I'd kickstart the heck out of em.

here's a topic we can rage about for five minutes:

Oh EA!
What will you think of next?

Hey guys. I need a bit of rest tomorrow- so we'll be starting at 4 PM CST, 5 PM EST. I'll do my bestest.

Topics will be whatever you want, and more than likely focused on some of old Rare's key members talking about a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie and all that.

We also have a couple new people from here that may wanna join in, so please don't flip if you don't get in this week. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I'd like for some people to get a chance who haven't gotten to do it before. I don't like these kinds of situations, but 6 audio tracks to edit gets to be a bit large, and we want people to actually follow what's going on a bit.

Thank you for understanding, and GOOD NIGHT MAG-YORK!

If it's Banjo-related, then I have to join, 'cause Banjo-Kazooie's my favorite game ever.

Also, work was a pain last night, and I'm only just now going to bed. I don't know when I'll wake up. Please don't start without me.

It's clear that 5 spots for people are too many. There's always trouble with people getting talking points in. Ergo, we're going down to 4 joinable spots. And seeing how that works. And also, will be using chat as a hand-raiser if need be. And, I do try to get people in depending on topics and whatnot.

Three, if a time doesn't work for you for some reason, I ain't changing it. We have a schedule now. I have to make it work for me and most other people. Yes, it's currently on a Sunday- but it could stay this way if need be. But, more than likely, at the start of November this will be happening at 4 PM CST/5 EST on Saturdays, and if you can make it great, if not, fine.

I also expect people to at least ask questions about stuff they may not know about, instead of dismissing what someone else brings in. It's not hard to skim gaming news headlines. It's not like I'm expecting people to read every single article, but I'd like to get less of "I don't know" and more "I'd like to know" since I think we have some pretty interesting people around to hear from.

That's all. Sorry I had to tighten things up a bit, but if I don't, then chaos. That, and I usually am way too lenient about these things anyways.

On a lighter note(or not, considering:P), next weeks topic will be EA Games and that whole Fifa scandal, and also Abe's Oddworld re-make.

I also seriously think we should just structure the podcast a bit more to recent news/main topic, what are we playing/and/or LP stuff(so it's not just new stuff), and then eventually questions and stuff if we get those. Either way, I just ask that y'all let me moderate since we need it. I keep a piece of paper keeping track of which people talked on a subject. I love the help in moving topics along, but it sometimes doesn't work out if it goes too fast.

Parts of this were also anonymous observations by others, and I put my own thoughts in, too.

Thank you for reading.

Also, episode 2 is now up!

Bot made up a really interesting format suggestion. Show notes. Not a script, but just a more defined manner of going through topics. How this works is that I'd work through each topic, and make sure everyone got their piece in. Kinda like a forum type deal, but more casual.

Quick Hits as according to Bot, about the same stuff I saw in the headlines, but these aren't meant to spend much time on. EA can be added to this, there really isn't much to say and it'll just be the same old cause it's well.... EA.

Quote:
Quick Hits:

Retro City Rampage has missed it's release date of May earlier this year and is now scheduled for October 9th, that's THIS tuesday, on PS3, Vita, and PC.

Buying it over PSN grants you crossplay privileges and copies of the game on both PS3 and Vita for only $14.99.

On PC you can buy RCR through Steam or Good old Games, but if you buy directly from the maker's website you will not only receive a DRM free version, but a free download code to redeem a copy of game from either Steam or GOG.com.

According to Brian Provinciano, the game's creator, RCR will see a WiiWare release soon after the 9th and eventually on XBLA when it's slot is finalized, which is completely up to MS.

You guys already know about the circle pad addon for the 3DS. Well the 3DSXL gets the hardware addon on Nov 15th for 1,500 yen, or about $20. Unless the Monster Hunter series beats out Pokemon here in the States, the Circle Pad Pro is not likely to be released outside of Japan.

Etrian Odyssey, a DS series of first person 3D Dungeon crawling RPGs kinda like Dungeons & Dragons and more recently like Unchained Blades for PSP, will be continuing in early 2013 with Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan for 3DS.

New features include a "Casual Mode" for those new to the genre as this style of rpg and particularly this series tends to kick the players ass from time to time.

Enemies will be rendered in 3D rather than as sprites. I'd like mention that if the 3DS keeps getting games like this, I might have to go out and buy one.

Windows 8 is launching this month and with it comes an XBox 360 update.

The update will bring us the new Xbox Music app, and yes this means the Zune brand is officially being discontinued.

You'll be able to buy individual tracks or grab a subscrition plan at $10 a month or $100 anually granting unlimited use.

Interestingly a radio service is included in the app which is likely to be free with comercials.

Xbox Music will be cross platform for all windows devices including windows phones. I hope Zune Music purchases will be able to migrate.

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, which was announced for Vita well before the handheld even shipped, has missed its release window this past summer.

After a few delays it looks like we will finally see the port coming out this November.

Which brings us to a topic I am really looking forward to hearing all of your opinions on.

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee from the PSOne is getting a full HD remake titled Abe's Oddysee: New N'Tasty.

The name was thought up and voted on by fans. It is looking amazing.

So what are your thoughts?

The main article he found to cover is amazing.

Quote:
Maine State Senate Democratic candidate Colleen Lachowicz is being attacked by Republicans for her online history. Most Noteably for her gaming habits, which primarily consist of WoW. They quote her posted comments where she says things such as, "So I'm a level 68 orc rogue girl. That means I stab things...a lot... Who would have thought that a peace-lovin', social worker and democrat would enjoy that?!" The republicans even created a website: colleensworld.com to spearhead this online campaign. Thing is, Colleen has almost no online presence. Her facebook page colleenforsenate had only 127 likes yesterday. Thanks to the Republic attack, she now has 766. I know likes don't translate to votes but clearly this isn't working for the Republicans.

Colleen Lachowicz responded with, "I think it's weird that I'm being targeted for playing online games. Apparently I'm in good company since there are 183 million other Americans who also enjoy online games. Instead of talking about what they're doing for Maine people, they're making fun of me for playing video games."

I think this is a really, REALLY good topic. This is what I originally intended for the main feature type articles, something huge and kinda more pertaining to game culture rather than a game coming out.

So yeah, this is what Sunday's show looks like. I'd appreciate it if people let me move the topics on, so I can be sure everyone gets a turn to talk since we have so many people.

Segments are definitely needed. It ain't a script, but we need a semblance of some kinda order.:P

Segments:
"Quick Hits" - Quickie news bites
"Main News" - Main article or two for the week, hopefully related to culture morso with gaming
"Questions and Chat" - Questions from chat, comments from chat, and/or email

Since this is a new segment-base, we're trying it with four people, and they're already picked for this particular episode. It's not a big deal if you don't get on this week, I'll be in the chat taking questions for the last segment of the show- and insultobot is making a stream. (And we have like two videos).

For now the first 4 people to try this will be me, Insultobot, Lantis, and Ixzion. I think we really need to get this format hammered out more. The last episode's pacing was really... awkward.:P We're trying to get situated before adding more people, and even then, I thought 4 was a good number to start with.:p

Like I said in the first post, this is going to be a format test more than anything. I want people to know what to expect in terms of the show, so we can be more organized. And, Insult is going to be testing the streaming and stuff as well.

I think one week will be enough time to see if this works. If so, then I'm planning to go ahead and add 1-2 more slots again. If not, we'll figure something out(which means the slots are added regardless of results). This kinda talk about suggestions usually happens in the chat anyways.

However, I will say that just showing up to do the podcast isn't really... enough. Insult was kind enough to compile the show notes for this week. Next week's, I'm working on em now. But the plan is to post them so people have a clue of what's going on. It's more to the format I was originally thinking, but I thought it lacked something. But, it seems it'd be nice to set a sort of quick topics thing. It really reflects the way the site is going as well. But the point is, reading those at the very least should be enough prep I think. Talking, even when you don't know. For example, with this week's- I've not played much of Oddworld, so I'm thinking of some questions to have on hand and thinking about what I'd like to know from people who are major fans and have played the heck out of the first games. I think it really even helps a conversation to have someone pitch the question to the bigger fans of a game. I'm not like.... writing out questions in interview format, but I wanna be sure to be able to gleam the details. However, I come in armed with the knowledge already that there's an HD remake coming out, and the fans named it. Which, that's all in the show notes.

I hope this makes sense. I've actually been pretty torn for about a week on what to do with what we're doing. Part of the problem is I never anticipated so many people would wanna do this. I figured there was like no interest from the earlier parts of the topic. But since we have near 10 people who wanna do this, I have to figure out some kinda rotational thing. But, all I ask from people is pretty much the basics. Don't be engaged doing something else while doing this, pay attention to fellow mag people, and read the show notes... and send me a good audio file. This has all been demonstrated of course, but there's also new people who wanna join. So that adds to the mix and makes it harder.

The original format was meant to be like.... 3 people total. I thought that was what I was looking at from interest. So doubling that has been a bit hard, since everyone should talk on a podcast, and we have an hour to work with. Anything more than that, I think you're gonna bore people which sucks. But, Insult also came up with the idea to go ahead and livestream a Twitch aftershow as well, which adds to the time. Those will also be transferred to Youtube.

I also think it's worth mentioning we don't have a huge audience.:P The Youtube analytics show that. I imagine if we ever got on iTunes, the audience might increase. But for now, it's just basically being listened to by the Mag for the most part. So this is the best time to try our options with show formatting, and make sure everything is in place.

Ideally, I'd like to have a 6 person format. But, I think if we just do this one episode and show how quick bits work, and then the main topic, it will help. For example- I could talk about say, Mario Golf coming to the 3DS eShop for an hour on my own probably. But summarizing thoughts, going to the point then moving to other news is much better I think. Not many people care about Mario Golf. Heck, I don't even think I'll bring that up this week. But the point is, part of being a pro media anything is just learning to be concise and how to hit the topics as well in a casual fashion.

No one said it's gonna be easy, I guess.:P But yeah. I guess I'd consider myself the lead on this, and what I'm saying is that unless interest severely goes down, we're not leaving the 6-person format for a while. There's just no other way to go about this. In return, just brush up on some news stuff. Need sources?

There's places like Siliconera, Kotaku, Joystiq, Rock Paper Shotgun, and more. What I did was set all of these to be in my Google reader feed. I browse the headlines and star whatever hits me as being of interest. It takes me about 5 minutes tops in a day to check the new stories.

I really think having you moderate and taking charge will help the show. It will help with pacing and making sure the topic doesn't go off on too many tangents.

For each of the topics, I made a txt with just a few things to mention on each, for example, Microsoft might purchase Rdio for their free radio streaming service within the Xbox Music service. The people behind Rdio are the same that started Skype, which is now owned by MS, and Skype is a heavy investor in Rdio. Rdio is about to debut Vdio, a video streaming service, which matches the timescales for the rumored Xbox Video release.

Nothing scripted, just things to say. If the conversation moves on before I mention them, or if someone else beats me to it, I simply move on. No biggie.

Also, for the sake of those in the MagChat, by watching the stream, you will be able to bring up anything we miss, ask questions for more details, and call us out when we are wrong about something. I will also be streaming relevant media, like the Abe's Oddysee: New N'Tasty trailer so there will be nothing lost to the chatters.

Well, after thinking about it some, these days, I don't think me being in the magcast would be all that beneficial and I don't really feel up to it these days, even when slots open back up. I'mve just go other focuses right now, and I'm not as sharp as could be with being tired and all that. Maybe down the line I'll jump back in on it.

Sad to hear it, but totally understandable.

We timed perfectly today, but I know we have more people in the wings for wanting in. And it's super simple since me and Bot do all the work for it anyways, and I'd like to thank him again today for the successful format and stream. Mad awesome. So, as a result- I think one more person would be best. And we can just rotate around for topics, but keep in mind that more than one person might be passionate on a topic. Next week, we'll have Dray joining hopefully(providing a free schedule and all that) for Animal Crossing.

Two, thanks to the chat. Why? It was a curveball and a new thing, and you guys supplied some great questions. If you think of something before next weeks show, we have an inbox at RPGMMagcast@gmail.com. Hatemail, comments, suggestions, questions... whatever.
Next week's main topic is about the digital versus physical distribution issue. And I know in quick hits, we'll have Animal Crossing.

Have a cool Animal Crossing story you wanna share on the show? Bring it up! We'll ask in chat in a themed question off, as well as taking general questions.

If you REALLY wanna get creative... drop us a question and/or Animal Crossing story as an mp3 file if you'd like as well. we'll have Bot play it on the stream. So PM all those to him as well as me, so I can put them in the final file. BEST ONE WINS MAGONIAN OF THE MONTH. :O Honorary. Or official since Lantis has the power, haha.

Also, we do accept phone call audio submissions now! (330) 299-5044
Keep in mind of your phone plan... this will probably be long distance. I think you can use Skype to call as well? I never tried doing a Skype call like that yet.:P

The next show will be at 2PM PST/4PM CST/ 5PM EST on Sunday. Please join us for the livestream! We wanna make this a true community project, and I feel the chat is the way to do it.:)

I think it went well today. Having a guide as we go helped I think. Plus having Fay keep the pacing was great.

For the next episode, here's what I have so far. Feel free to add to it as much as you like. We will let Fay be the editor in chief and select what we use at the end of the week.

It's just a skeletal outline right now.
Quote:
Quick Hits

-Borderlands 2 DLC Captain Scarlet and the Pirate's Booty october 16. New enemies, sand skiff vehicle (starwars boba fet) and new town of Oasis. New currency, Seraph Crystals, but don't yet know what to buy with it.

-New Animal Crossing

-Battlefield Bad Company to get TV Show on FOX

-PokeMMO.eu AMAZING pokemon MMO

-MOGA controller preorderable

-Artemis (star trek bridge simulator) coming to iOS, cross platform with PC

-PS Vita finally sells 1Million Units in Japan. Took 42 weeks on the market to do.

-ToeJam & Earl coming to XBLA and PSN

-New Zealand making LOTR money... REAL MONEY!!

More as the week continues

Digital Distribution

-PSN Playstation Plus is based on it and worth it. New PSN Store. It looks like 360 dashboard but without all the ads.

-Sources: N's e-Shop, PSN, XBLA, Steam, Origin, GoG, Amazon, Gamestop, Direct from Publisher, etc.

-Are any of the distributing platforms doing it right? What could be better?

-What do you even own if it is just digital?

-How does DRM affect your ownership?

-Selling physical copies: Gamestop, ebay, anyway you want

-Selling digital copies: impossible. Gamestop is looking into it. I think it would be great if consoles started offering refunds on your games. It can be a percentage of the current price up to 60%. The percentage you get back can be tiered based on how many hours you played it.

Even if you cannot be reimbursed with funds, it would be great if you had control over your downloaded game. Imagine if you could play a game, beat it, and give to a friend. Kindle is already doing this with book loans, a system of borrowing ebooks. Another suprising entry into the discussion is the library. All the libraries in my area allow you to download ebooks and audio books to your pc from their website as a checked book. After two weeks, it expires and the next person in line gets to download it.

Digital Distribution: Non-Game Media

-Should a game console have it?

Examples:
Netflix
Hulu
Cable providers
Amazon Instant Video
Last.fm
Xbox Music
Streaming over LAN (from PC)

-Who is doing it right?
-Do you use it?

Commercialized Dashboards

-360 Dashboard is mostly ads for games and nongame media.

Looks good so far!

So Bot and Dray know this... but there was an emergency with our dogs this morning. They were attacked by a dog from next door, with a lax, idiot neighbor whose idea of keeping a dog well is basically leaving it unsupervised and chained up.

It got loose and attacked them, and we were at the vet for a while. Luckily, they are okay it seems. Our girl dog, Alley, is hurt much worse than Rosco. He only got a lighter bite, she got a much heavier one that bruised her up pretty badly.

Needless to say, Magcast for this week will probably be uploaded tomorrow. I'm torn up as all get-out and haven't slept. I probably won't be around much today, either. Sorry.

On a brighter note, gonna do a write-up- but here's a cool quick hit. OSU did a video-game themed marching band thing. As a former band dork, two thumbs up.
http://gaygamer.net/2012/10/ohio_state_ ... bring.html

Let's see here, what else(just a rough but to get the mind bubbling)
Quick Hits:
(adding to Animal Crossing), 45-minute Nintendo Direct video gameplay, and some new features were shown off like the ability to make decisions as mayor, and the new microphone feature to call to animals. Also revealed that most of the series characters(like the lovely wallpaper Walrus) will make a return.

Mechromancer came out a week early in Borderlands 2. Should more companies handle DLC like this?

Resident Evil takes over Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan.
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/10/08/re ... coon-city/

Pokemon Black/White 2 dropped last sunday! As with most Pokemon game launches these days, there is a legendary involved for a short time through Mystery Gift WiFi- Genesect. It will be available until November 12th.

Cool random thing- someone is making a project in order to have replacement SNES box art. It's called the "Real Box Project".

They are the actual dimensions I believe, but the project head recommends these kinds of cases.

Loose games are quite common these days. Pretty nifty for those wanting to do displays!
He is also taking requests.

Episode 3!

New format, new-old Abe's Oddysee, and why politicians and people in general probably really shouldn't be judged for playing games.

Is there any way the Animal Crossing discussion can be delayed a week? Work sucked more than usual, tonight. I just now got home. I still have to eat. I probably won't be able to get to bed until an hour and a half from now. I'm totally stressed out because I don't know if I can make today's Magcast. What'll probably happen is this stress will result in me being totally unrested when it's time for Magcast, or if I do rest well, it'll be because I slept right past it. Being a furry, I think my inclusion in the Animal Crossing discussion is a necessity, so I'd really apprecite it if that discussion were held on a day where work didn't suck as bad. =(

I'm sorry that happened. I had no idea since I should check the forums more.

Anyways, I think the whole one-day turnaround ain't gonna work, so expect updates on Tuesdays more than likely. I don't have all the files yet, but I ain't gonna stress people out over it. The extra day would also be nice. I doubt anyone's interested, but I basically adjust volume, remove noise, and remove other fun sounds in each individual track. Then, I throw all those into a huge file where I sync em, and then make sure the volume is okay for a final pass. Then I try to listen to the whole thing. The parts that obviously take the longest are individual noise removing(since some absolutely has to be manual, heh), and then the complete listen-through of course, to make sure everything is alright.

Anywho, I suppose I'll also be starting quick hits for this week.:)
