This was brought up in chat real recently. I said that I don't use ad blockers because there's been a few times where I wanted ads left on. But I couldn't really remember specific instances.

Well, here's a specific instance.



Not sure if it's a good game, but it sure got my attention. Probably wouldn't have ever known about it had I kept ads disabled. Funny thing is, this was put in front of a video of a guy in a fursuit crushing walnuts with a laptop.

Also funny are the prices I found on Amazon. One price said I could get it for $20. Upon closer inspection, it seems there's a catch...



Anyway, it's interesting enough that I might get it. Well, for one of the more normal prices, anyway ($60). I also was thinking "hey, this would make an interesting surprise let's play", but then I found out it's from Namco. And besides that, it only released, yesterday.

I hardly think it's worth putting up with ad upon ad for the chance to run across a game that you MIGHT get. Specially when you are fairly picky (understandably so) about the games you get to begin with. But that's just me.

I use ad blockers because screw ads. Funnily enough, I do so for my gaming, too. I use Noscript, a Firefox addon that blocks most of them, and also adblocker. Why? Because a lot of those ads have malware, and I had enough problems with that crap when I was younger.

I also play online games, so leaving them on in certain situations was dangerous enough. Especially when people sans authenticators are getting hacked in Diablo 3 even with safe internet usage. Friggin' Blizzard games for being popular, and having digital loot values.

It's cool that you found some funny ones though. I can't block Youtube ads, but I have yet to see any good ones. There's a web series I watch, and the guy made a parody Netflix ad and it was pretty good, haha.

You can block Youtube ads too. Go get an add-on called greasemonkey:

This will let you use custom scripts. Specifically, you'll want Youtube Enhancer:

What this does is block all the embedded video ads. On top of that, it'll give you several more control options and direct download links to all the videos you watch. Can't tell you enough how much I enjoy this script.


But yeah, I grew up on a net that wasn't saturated in ads. And I refuse to put up with it now.
