Over here in limeyland we don't really know much about you guys. I'm typing this thousands of miles, and up to 10 hours away from you. I was just wondering...
Whats life like on your side of the world? Whats it like living somewhere that elected Bush twice? Im guessing its really just like over here (big, grey, and damp, full of irritating people who deserve to be machinegunned), but it's still crazy to think about.
In three or more words then, whats your life like?

I live in Canada. We have big mountains and nice rain and awesome thunderstorms and terrible snow and terrible heat and good beer. I don't really know what it is like in america either but from what I have heard/read they are mostly fat and all have guns and don't trust anybody. In canada we don't really lock our doors much. And as far as all that weather stuff that is just kind of in general. It really depends where you live, Canada is a big place. What is it like in Limeyland?

Grey and wet. There are dogs. We get all the rubbish beer the dutch don't want. It rains a lot. When it doesn't rain it is damp, then it starts raining again. Hardly anyone wears monacles. We always talk about what a good movie Die Hard was. Thats about it, really. Guns are illegal, which naturally means only the criminals have them. Sensible, innit?

Bush being elected twice confirmed my hypothesis that dumb people are born twice as fast as smart people.

Then again, Kerry wouldn't have been much better. Hence why I've given up on politics.

Over here in the States, it's just living. From my personal experience, we have what we need and some people have a whole lot more than that. Capitalism, Enron, Micheal Jackson. Monkeys. Hurrah!

The US of A is okay, and it certainly has its perks. Although I can't think of any of those perks right now. But yeah, it's generally sucky around here.

Personally, I'd rather live in Japan. They get all the cool games and anime anyway.

The first term was scary, but in a funny way. Now it's scary in the "the-alien-is-ripping-out-of-your-chest" way.

Yeah.

One of the greatest misconseptions the the world has about us americans is that we all support Bush II and agree with what he's doing. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of us hate him. He only got in again because we don't have as clearly defined political parties as you would expect.
It's all shades of gray. What makes a republican a republican and a democrat a democrat, is based mostly on one or two issues. The major one being abortion. Republicans see it as killing babies, we Democrats see it as NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Wheather or not we agree with it doesn't come into the picture. That's not the point.
But every thing the democrats stand for by defualt the republicans have to oppose, and they have come up with some rather assinine reasons for why they do.
Hence, they play on the immage of the rightious american worker, who is pariotic and humble, willing to trust his or her government completley. Now here is the irony: They tell them that government is bad. It doesn't have their best interest at heart. They are people FAR away who have cushy lives and no real connection to "THE LAND", However, these "humble" rebpublicans know the way wasington works, and that they can tell them how it is and help. But the biggest ruse they throw up is the one of God. America is FULL of christ-o-nuts. Bible beaters who never actualy read a word of it. So we get these poloticians who are little better than revial preachers reminding the unwashed masses that God is glorious, the Flag is glorious, that America is glorious, that they sould then put all that together, come to the conclusion that America is likend unto God himself, and should be worshiped as a religion. And to top it all off, if there are those who don't see america like that, they MUST be some sort of devil worshiper, (like them A-rabs), and should be hunted down and converted where everpossible, and turned in where ever not. It's based on the fear of fear (ie "Terror") which is all the more infuriating because they twist the words of the model for all modern liberals -FDR's- words to suit their ends. For was it not he that said that we SHOULD be afraid of that which makes us afraid? (if you said "no, he didn't" BTW, you get a gold star. He meant that Fear is the chink in our national armor and that we should not be afraid at all, for those that try to make us afraid only win when we show that we are afraid. Lashing out wildy is a show of fear, and he was suggesting that those that show compasion and RESTRAINT in reacting to a wrong done to us is a far more powerful thing than any weapon.) As a result there are those americans who belive that these people they are sending to washington will root out those devil worsiping terroist Liberals and make the U.S. a cleaner, more wholesome place, "just like the good ol' days." But who they are REALY sending to washington are people who are just as rich as the people they claim to be opposing.

On the flip side of the coin, democrats aren't as a whole a terribly organized group. There are lot's of little factions here and there trying to achieve their own goals, pretty musch keeping to them selves untill election time. Think of it as more of a loose alliace that genearly is pointed toward the same overall goal, but have lots of differing ideas in how to get there. Now mind you, these are all quite essoteric goals, but noone is realy getting into anyoneelse's pie so to speak. Hence, while there are unifying elements, there realy isint any uninfacation, there are lots of squabbling, and dissagreements instead. So with out the organization of the Republicans, we're more like a bunch of ankle biters attacking a giant.

In any event know this: America can be bought. The current administration proves that. In a consumerist scociety everything has a price, including scociety itself. It's just a matter of comming up with the funds.

So... Americans are bitter?

Oh and as far as i'm concerned fear is natural, it's the control of yourself that makes you strong. A coward cannot overcome his fear here a brave person can.

I feel better now

Yes, Americans can be bitter. I don't know if this is a problem anywhere else, but America can be quite the "sue-happy" place. This isn't a bad country, but in order to come to that conclusion, you kinda have to ignore what's happening in it.

Goth, that assumes that 100% of the people who could vote did. Which we all know is not the case. It was a record turnout though. About 85% of voting age ameicans voted. Of those only 53% were republicans. If we considder that almost 90% of voting age Republicans turned out, you can start to see how THE MAJORITY of people hate Bush. They just didn't vote. Also you have to considder that there were several people running from several different parties, and those people split the democratic vote, where it you were a republican you voted for Bush.

you hit the nail on the head.

That is exactly why it is so frustruating. Here are all these people who could make a difference buy upsetting the Conservitave strangle hold on the government, and all they say is "well...I'm not realy into polotics." But what they are realy saying is "I'd rather complain about crap and have SOMEBODY ELSE do the dirty work"

Then there are people who don't vote because they look at it like its some sort of lottery or game. "the guy I voted for one time didn't win, so i'm never going to vote again"
Those people are called QUITTERS. The system didn't work for them so they said screw it.

then you have your small percentage of people who don't vote for relidgious reasons.

Then you have swing voteres who are quite possibly the dumbest people on the plannet, for they want to sit back and judge each candidtate carefully and wheigh their opptions. Now while this may sound good in THEORY, in practice, it's more like waiting in line at the bank behind a 97 year old woman who wants to withdraw her ENTIRE life saving.

In pennies.

I did favor Bush to begin with, but seeing as how things started turning out in Iraq, I started to dislike him. But I did want him over Kerry, since Kerry is not exactly trustworthy. It not only because of his war record but some of the other things he's said and done. When it came down to it, I thought that we'd have to choose one of the lesser evils. Bush was it, though not by a large margin. We need another FDR or Ronald Reagan.

All this has got me thinking...
Do you think there's any chance this complacent world will ever change? Of course i don't believe it ever will, people are just too contented the way they are. The general public are often likened to sheep, and i can see the similarities. We ignore the stormclouds and just keep grazing. War? Oh forget it, the guys in charge know what they're doing. Global Warming? A fairy story for alarmist tree-huggers. Bird Flu? Hey, it's not bothering ME. Because thats what it's all about, isn't it? Me me me.
All the problems of the world in two letters. *slits wrists*

besides, saving the world is Superman's job, anyway.
